A Bona Fide Killer Ending Explained: Directed by Yoon Jong-ho and adapted from the webtoon by Yun, 유부녀 킬러 stars Kong Hyo-jin as Yoo Bo-na, also known as the legendary assassin Kingfisher. Jung Jun-won plays her husband, Kwon Tae-seong, while Lee Sang-yi plays investigator Lee Dong-jin. The supporting cast includes Sung Dong-il, Seo Jung-yeon, Moo Jin-sung, Ha Yul-ri, Heo Jae-ho, Lee Eun-saem, and others.

Why Was Layla Targeting Bo-na?
Layla was out to get Bo-na due to the hatred that she felt towards her ever since they worked together in Russia. Some years back, when Bo-na and Layla were out to assassinate someone, Layla stepped over the line that Bo-na could never accept. As soon as Bo-na had killed the target, his daughter saw them, and instead of allowing her to be alive, Layla killed her to cover up their crime. Bo-na was horrified at this move because she had never wanted to involve any innocents in her killing sprees.
Layla was subsequently expelled from the organisation and travelled to Southeast Asia to become a hitman. It would appear that she held Layla responsible, or at the very least had a longstanding feud with her, for what followed after that operation. Upon her return many years later, she started mimicking Kingfisher’s modus operandi and killing innocent people so that the murders would be pinned upon Bo-na. Thus, shooting the eyes and planting evidence was no case of killing at random. She was attempting to tarnish Kingfisher’s reputation and make Bo-na show herself.
Did Bo-na Survive the Shooting?
Yes, Bo-na did survive the gunshot. After the conflict between Bo-na and Layla, when Tae-seong came on the scene, Layla understood that he was aware of Bo-na’s secret. Then she shot at Tae-seong; however, Bo-na immediately placed herself in front of them and took the bullet aimed at her husband. Bo-na fell after the gunshot, while Layla believed everything was over.
In the end, Bo-na was rushed to the hospital and underwent an emergency operation. Luckily, the bullet missed any vital organs, and she managed to get it removed by the surgeons. She recovered from this trauma, yet the fact that her husband found out the whole truth about her became a major problem in their marriage. Although Bo-na is alive, she has trouble dealing with the fact that Tae-seong knows the truth about her.
How Did Layla Die?
Layla died as a result of the police raid at the dock when she was confronting Bo-na. While Layla and Bo-na were engaged in their fight, the police were moving into the scene from various sides. Seul-gi was observing from afar and tried to alert Bo-na and Layla about the approach of the police. Layla escaped from the scene, but the police still pursued her.
Once Dong-jin and his team managed to catch up with Layla, they thought they had identified the one responsible for the murders of the late Kingfishers. She responded by trying to shoot the police officers who surrounded her. They returned fire, and she was killed in the process. At first glance, it seemed as if Layla’s death solved the mystery of the Kingfisher. The press was quick to identify her as the infamous killer. However, Dong-jin felt sceptical about it due to some facts that did not match up.
What Happened to Kingfisher in the End of A Bona Fide Killer?
The Kingfisher was neither captured nor outed as Layla. Following the demise of Layla, the police and press were convinced they finally captured the notorious hitman. But Tae-seong knew it was impossible for the two innocent victims who had just been killed to be the work of Bo-na. He knew Bo-na was not even around during those shootings, and someone must have tried to frame her by mimicking her style. At the end of A Bona Fide Killer episode 14, Tae-seong traces back the two innocent victims to learn that they both happened to visit Cambodia at the same time when a mother and her daughter who sold food in Cambodia were brutally murdered.
By using his journalistic skills, he successfully finds a link between the two innocent victims and that murder mystery. As a result, he clears Kingfisher’s name, and also the task force created to find the murderer of the two victims is dismantled. In the closing scenes of the drama, we see Bo-na back in her family home, but after seeing one of the criminals released from jail in the news, she calls someone asking, “Shall we go?” The obvious inference is that even though she has left Durumi Electronics, Kingfisher has not vanished.
Did Bo-na and Tae-seong Get Their Happy Ending?
Bo-na and Tae-seong finally get reunited, but not right after the gunfight. After Bo-na heals, she finds herself at odds with Tae-seong over the fact that he already knew about her being Kingfisher, and that even though they had spent many years with each other, they never really understood each other. On the other hand, Tae-seong confesses that he was mad, but emphasises that he cares for her safety more than anything else. However, Bo-na could not ignore what happened, and she left, causing a separation between them.
Six months pass, and Taeseong comes to the realisation that Bo-na might have come back to the cabin where they fell in love for the first time. He looks for her there and reassures her that he still loves her and that she doesn’t have to go through all of that by herself. Instead of insisting that they go right back to how things used to be, he proposes that they try starting fresh by getting to know one another completely. Bo-na goes back home, and the whole family comes together for Yul’s sports day.
What Happened to Lee Dong-jin At the End of A Bona Fide Killer?
The story of Lee Dong-jin comes to an end in a more subdued manner. This is due to his growing resolve to arrest Kingfisher, considering his conviction that even though some of the murderers were very despicable people who committed very bad crimes, the act of murdering them outside the law is still considered murder. Lee Dong-jin later ended up becoming the leader of the special task force set up to arrest Kingfisher. The case ended after the death of Layla.
In A Bona Fide Killer Episode 14, six months ahead, Dong-jin will not be in his original job anymore since he has chosen to accept a demotion and work as a traffic policeman. When he encounters Tae-seong, they will talk about how the public has been demanding the comeback of Kingfisher. Tae-seong advises Dong-jin to revert back to his original job and to ensure that no other Kingfisher would arise. Thus, the conclusion of Dong-jin’s story becomes one where he is now facing the aftermath of the case and preventing anyone from doing vigilante justice.
How Does A Bona Fide Killer End?
At the ending of A Bona Fide Killer, we see Bona and Tae-seong return to normal life after all these events. In the wake of Layla’s death, Tae-seong starts investigating the truth about the recent murders and manages to prove that Kingfisher was not the one behind them. This leads to uncovering the link between both victims and a previous murder in Cambodia, clearing Kingfisher’s name in front of everybody. Now that Kingfisher’s involvement in the recent murders is disproved, the task force assigned to capture the assassin is disbanded. Meanwhile, Bo-na leaves her company and stays away from Tae-seong.
Later, Tae-seong discovers Bo-na in the cabin where he fell in love with her many years ago. He tells her that he still loves her, but what is more important to him is to discover all aspects of her instead of just seeing her as Kingfisher. She accepts his love, and at the end of the movie, she goes back home to be with Tae-seong and Yul. In the last scene, Bo-na hears on the news about the other criminal who was released and calls someone asking whether they should leave. It implies that even though Bo-na has left her previous criminal group behind and chosen her family, she did not give up being Kingfisher.
