The Husband Episode 9 Recap
Episode 9 of The Husband starts with Tae-ju refusing to accept the fact that Dr Ha alone is the reason behind all the happenings. Though the investigation has revealed very strong evidence linking Dr Ha to the kidnapping of Se-yun as well as the criminal activities carried out in the hospital, Tae-ju feels that the case has ended way too neatly. With each passing moment, Tae-ju is sure that Dr Ha has just been the pawn of some bigger player.
Tae-ju’s suspicions of Dr Ha slowly shift from Dr Ha towards his father-in-law, Dr Ko Dong-chan. He begins to entertain the thought that Dr Ko has been subtly manipulating everything without getting blamed for it by anyone. Detective Do-sik, too, is becoming doubtful of the whole matter. The apparent closure of the case is turning out to be rather suspicious, leading him to believe that there was something behind the investigation of Dr Ha.
In contrast, Tae-ju and Se-yun discover the shocking reason why Kyung-ae was rejected by the hospital’s trial. Kyung-ae thought for years that it was due to her past and her criminal record that she did not get treated. She felt guilty about her past actions and thought that they cost her an opportunity to be treated. In reality, the truth was more shocking than that. She was not accepted to the hospital’s trial, as there was no economic motive for the hospital to do so.
The truth exposes the corruption in the hospital’s system, where the patients who are linked to rich sponsors and big donors get more attention while the others remain behind since they do not bring any financial advantage to the hospital. Kyung-ae was not turned away for having a criminal history but rather for not being able to offer financial advantages to the hospital. The truth makes her reconsider all the beliefs that she held about herself.
However, Man-hee is still oblivious of the entire truth. Following his escape from the police, Man-hee is overcome with fear over Kyung-ae and increasingly driven to anger. The moment a supermarket owner casually mentions Kyung-ae upon learning about the news, Man-hee loses control and kills the owner. Man-hee’s anger is fueled by his grief and desperation for revenge.
At the end of The Husband ep 9, Man-hee goes into the hospital holding a knife. Right after he spots Se-yun, he runs towards her, as he firmly believes that she has something to do with the pain he and Kyung-ae have been through. Tae-ju understands that Se-yun is in trouble and sprints to rescue her. But it cuts off without showing us if he manages to save her or not.

The Husband Episode 10 begins by bringing viewers back to the start of the relationship between Man-hee and Kyung-ae. Before they become partners in crime, Man-hee is an introverted man living an introverted life. He becomes acquainted with Kyung-ae, who lives near him, and she is the first one to be friendly towards him. She invites him to her salon and gives him food.
The turning point came when Man-hee saw a man trying to assault Kyung-ae because of money. To protect her, he ended up killing the man by beating him with a hammer. They then buried the dead body, and the murder formed a tie between them which influenced their life in the future. At some point, she cuts his hair and kisses him.
However, returning to the present, Man-hee is able to find Se-yun at the hospital. Se-yun flees from Man-hee, whereas Tae-ju shows up right on time to prevent the situation from escalating further. Man-hee pursues Tae-ju, resulting in an encounter that results in Man-hee disclosing the fact that he was not after Se-yun but Tae-ju all along.
At this point, Tae-ju informs Man-hee of the truth regarding Kyung-ae’s refusal and tells him that Doctor Ha had been instructed to kill her. Even before Man-hee was able to make sense of this news, he gets caught up in the police and has to run away again. But even then, he leaves Tae-ju with yet another startling hint, one which suggests that Myeong-hui had been in touch with them.
The next day, Myeong-hui is prepared to leave in order to lead a new life, but Man-hee follows her by somehow entering her car secretly. In the hospital, Tae-ju asks Dr Ko about the rejection of Kyung-ae, and Dr Ko states that it was because of her criminal history. But now Tae-ju doesn’t believe Dr Ko anymore, as he realises the connection between this information and the previous one he gathered about the rich donors of the hospital.
Tae-ju finally recognises that Myeong-hui was also part of the manipulation of the situation with Kyung-ae as he reflects on the previous encounters with her. Tae-ju reveals this information to Kyung-ae, thus providing her with the truth that was kept from her for many years. It is not just about the corrupt hospital anymore because Tae-ju begins to suspect some conspiracy among many people.
Se-yun takes some rest and then starts working. Tae-ju comes to her and tells her all he has found out regarding the stem-cell experiment. Then Se-yun goes to the house of her parents again and searches in her father’s office in the hope of finding some evidence of the same. Tae-ju, on returning to his house, finds Se-yun waiting there for him and both of them have their heart-to-heart talk at last.
Tae-ju tells everything regarding their daughter Ha-yun’s death. Tae-ju clarifies to Se-yun that it was Dr Ko who made him choose to do surgery on an important VIP rather than be there with his daughter at her time of death. This is something that Tae-ju had kept hidden from his wife, Se-yun, because he feared that she would come to hate her husband during such a difficult time of mourning the loss of their child.
But then, at the end of The Husband ep 10, there is another shocking turn of events. It is Man-hee who meets Choi Chi-ung, a colleague of Tae-ju’s and the deputy director of the hospital. Instead of being scared of Man-hee’s visit, he just smiles, and the viewer understands that the threat is far from being over. So, at the end, a new threat emerges when the character seems to have come closer to the truth.
The Husband Episode 9-10 Review
In episodes 9 and 10 of The Husband, the mystery takes an unforeseen turn precisely when it was expected that some light would be shed on the truth. It becomes evident that Tae-ju is suspicious about Dr Ha’s role as a pawn. Moreover, the mystery concerning Kyung-ae’s failed treatment shows how deep the roots of corruption within the hospital are. It is particularly sad that Kyung-ae blamed herself for her crime for so many years when, in fact, the true reason why she could not receive the necessary treatment was money and influence.
In addition to that, the episodes also do an excellent job in depicting the way in which the truth affects the perception of certain characters by the viewers. To begin with, Man-hee seems to be motivated by nothing other than his rage and thirst for revenge, but Episode 10 manages to go back to the very first days of his acquaintance with Kyung-ae. His past helps us understand what made him such an extremely devoted person who resorted to even further violence out of fear of losing Kyung-ae. Nevertheless, the truth about the fact that Se-yun was never his true target and he had been angry only at Tae-ju changed everything.
Another emotional dialogue between Tae-ju and Se-yun is a significant episode in these two scenes. Despite having concealed the truth for such a long period of time and misunderstood each other, now, for the first time, they can have an honest conversation concerning the death of Ha-yun. The reason why Tae-ju had been keeping that secret is revealed when Tae-ju says that Dr Ko ordered him to choose a VIP patient instead of Ha-yun, although it had pushed him even further away from Se-yun.
However, the most surprising part occurs at the end of Episode 10 of The Husband. As Dr Ko starts to become the culprit of all that has happened throughout the series, Choi Chi-ung is presented as the one who had been pulling strings on Man-hee and Kyung-ae. The fact that he remains unperturbed when confronted by Man-hee becomes an even scarier element because there is no indication that he appears surprised or afraid.
Having only two episodes left to go, it seems that the Kdrama The Husband continues to maintain its suspenseful nature while leaving many important mysteries unsolved. This new twist makes me eager to know what Chi-ung’s intentions are, what the true extent of his manipulation is, and whether Tae-ju and Se-yun will find the whole truth out in the end.
