The Glass Dome Review: Directed by Henrik Björn and Lisa Farzaneh and written by popular crime writer Camilla Läckberg. The series stars Léonie Vincent as Lejla in the lead role along with Johan Hedenberg, Johan Rheborg, Farzad Farzaneh, Ia Langhammer, Bianca Lynxén and others. The show is set in a small, snowy village in Sweden and has a dark, cold feeling from the very beginning. When I started watching Glaskupan, I was somewhat excited. I love mystery shows, especially European ones, and this is from Sweden, and it’s only six episodes.

The Glass Dome Review

Netflix’s The Glass Dome story is about Lejla, a woman who was kidnapped as a child and kept inside a glass cage. Many years later, she returns to her hometown, and miraculously, another girl goes missing in an almost identical fashion. Now, Lejla must confront her own past and discover who is behind the new crime. Sounds interesting, right? But unfortunately, the show didn’t measure up. I’ll be honest, I was a little bored. I continued watching, wishing it would improve, but it didn’t.

For one thing, it’s extremely slow. I don’t mind plodding stories if they’re working toward something big or exciting, but here it just felt like nothing of consequence was happening. The characters in The Glass Dome series continued talking, but they tended to ramble and be confusing. I didn’t experience the tension I usually associate with a thriller. In some episodes, I had to rewind because my mind drifted away — that’s how boring it became.

The protagonist Lejla, played by Léonie Vincent, should be strong and intelligent. She’s a criminologist, so she studies crimes and helps to solve them. But in the show, she doesn’t come off as too sharp. She wore the same expression his entire time there, and I just couldn’t connect with her at all. I desperately wanted to feel her pain and her fear, but I just couldn’t feel it through her acting.

A second issue I had had to do with the storytelling. The Glass Dome series is in between the past and present, and it can sometimes be difficult to follow. There are flashbacks and memories,  but they don’t always clarify things. They even confused me more, in fact. And the way the mystery gets solved at the end — it was too quick and haphazard, I thought. It was not paced to build up to that moment. It didn’t seem smart or satisfying.

The one thing I did like was the setting. Frequently, these Scandinavian programs are set in frosty, sleepy villages where everyone knows all their neighbours. That part provided the series with a pleasingly moody vibe. The snow, the silence, and the tiny police station with minimal staff — all interesting and helped give the show some texture. Too bad this story isn’t as good as the background!

Now, as for the supporting characters, well, most were forgettable, if we’re being honest. Even the scary, mysterious villain didn’t make much of an impression on me. All the show kept saying was how creepy he was. But declaring someone creepy over and over doesn’t necessarily make them a mussed-up villain.

The ending is what I found really disappointing. Having endured five episodes and tried to remain patient, I had hoped for a strong, shocking finish. But everything felt thrown together at the last minute. I didn’t feel that “wow” feeling. It seemed like the writers didn’t have a good ending in mind.

Summing Up

To be honest, I feel like this Swedish series The Glass Dome, could have been a 2-hour movie. That would have been a lot better. For one thing, there’s simply not enough material to fill six episodes. Most of it is wasted on extraneous plot or emotional digressions that lead nowhere. I only gave it one star more because of the nice snowy setting and the story behind the story. The rest — the acting, the mystery, the pace — simply didn’t work for me. If you’re looking for a heart-pounding thriller, you might want to try something else. This one is more confused than curious!

The Glass Dome 2025 is now streaming on Netflix.

  1. I agree with your review. I am bored watching it so I’m reading reviews about it instead. I am very disappointed as there was a lot of hype about it. I can’t connect with the protagonist. It’s like trying to relate to cardboard.
