S Line Episode 5-6 Review: Directed and written by Ahn Joo-young, this kdrama S라인 boasts an all-star cast bringing to life a story that’s as surreal as it is disturbing. Headlined by Lee Soo-hyuk as detective Han Ji-uk, Lee Da-hee as Lee Gyu-jin, Oh My Girl’s Arin as Sin Hyeon-hop, and Lee Eun-saem as Kang Seon-a, the drama created some buzz for its complex plotlines and metaphysical themes. As we approach the last two chapters, the mystery intensifies into a dark, but emotionally redemptive conclusion.

Before we jump into the final two episodes, let’s catch up quickly on how we got here. S Line’s universe is one of bizarre supernatural phenomena where “S Lines” literally bring individuals together visually, exposing the most intimate relationship secrets and past traumas. Detective Ji-uk and Hyun-Hop’s investigation into these red threads of destiny has revealed gruesome crimes, personal lies, and unimaginable truths about the individuals they thought they knew—and about themselves.

S Line Episode 5 Recap

S Line Kdrama Episode 5 opens with a chilling incident of schoolgirl Ji-na visiting the police station and reporting that she was beaten by a K-pop trainee. But with a twist here—four S lines are attached to her now, and they are not to the boy she points out. Ji-uk is a cynic and tells him it’s another soap opera complaint. But Hyun-hop is unsure and tells him to investigate further.

Along the way, the truth is darker than anticipated. Ji-na was spiked and brought to a party and passed around by four boys, including the K-pop trainee, who had treated her as a commodity. When Ji-uk encounters them, they easily confess, and he’s left grappling with how fast he’d pushed away a true victim. It is a wake-up call to how the S lines don’t just symbolise love—they expose awful truths that people don’t want to confront.

Somewhere else, Hyun-hop finally lets herself be happy, going so far as to plan her birthday and come out to Joon-sun. But that tenuous peace won’t hold. Ji-uk is given a glimpse of ominous CCTV footage—his missing father vanishing with Lee Gyu-jin. This will be followed by a tense moment where Sun-a’s red line is connected to none other than Ji-uk’s father—her grandfather. In rage, Ji-uk nearly kills him, but he does stop when Hyun-hop cries out for help.

S Line Episode 6 Recap

S Line Kdrama Episode 6 picks up steam. A leaked sex tape pushes a college student to the edge, but then Gyu-jin shows up just in time to save her and hands over the cursed glasses. Hyun-hop and Joon-sun share a sweet, passing birthday moment. On his way out to buy a cake, he gets murdered regretfully at a nearby construction site. The tragedy is recent and appalling.

Before long, Hyun-hop starts getting threatening videos from Kyung-jin—the very same guy who’s been stalking her and intimidating others with the glasses. She and Ji-uk follow him, but they’re stuck in the middle of a dreamlike, labyrinthine school. They’re on the rooftop, where things become psychological mayhem. Jin-uk is taken to a twisted world, and Hyun-hop is instructed by Kyung-jin that she has to die if the world is ever going to “see” the truth.

The camera pans to a cult-like world where Gyu-jin is about to kill Ji-uk. In a lovely and moving shot, Hyun-hop’s mother is seen bringing her closure and helping her to defend herself. Hyun-hop stabs Gyu-jin, and the S lines explode in the sky, now visible to the entire world. One year later, Hyun-hop visits the tomb of Joon-sun, her eyes now grey, as if she has seen it all. But just when things seem to be peaceful, Gyu-jin deploys his voice once again. Is it really over?

S Line Episode 5-6 Review

While episode 3-4 boasted a beautiful build-up and layers of psychological complexity, the final two episodes are bogged down by expectations. Episode 5 of S Line handles tension and emotional investment quite well, especially through Ji-Na’s tragic backstory and Hyun-Hop’s emotional vulnerability. There are flashes of genius about the way the show addresses uncomfortable truths—victim-blaming, trauma cycles, and the way women are silenced. But towards the end of the story, the pace starts to fall behind, and too much is given to the viewer with not enough space to breathe.

Hyun-hop’s inner life was perhaps the show’s selling point, but the final stretch tries to merge her trauma, love heartbreak, and otherworldly entanglements all at once. The motel birthday is lovely, and Joon-sun’s demise is effective. But then the show cuts so rapidly into symbolic and abstract landscapes—Penrose staircases, multiple universes, cult-like confrontations—that the emotional thread starts to unravel. It’s lovely to look at, but sometimes confounding instead of stimulating to the mind.

Episode 6 of S Line is nearer a fever dream than a rational conclusion. While the dreamlike, metaphorical approach is gratifying to aficionados of arthouse storytelling, to others, it raised more questions than it answered. Major character motivations—Gyu-jin’s devastation and Kyung-jin’s obsession are not explained. The series finale strives to be poetic but so nearly reaches its mind-bending ambiguity that it may leave off viewers emotionally invested since the start.

Overall, the finale episode of S Line Kdrama is a mixed bag. The show had a great idea, a cool visual approach, and some great performances, especially by Arin and Lee Da-hee. But the final two episodes are bogged down by their own symbolism, opting for flash instead of a good ending.
