A Shop for Killers Season 2 Episode 3-4 Review: Directed by Lee Kwon and adapted from Kang Ji-young’s novel Sarinjaui Syopingmol, 킬러들의 쇼핑몰 시즌2 brings back Lee Dong-wook as Jeong Jin-man and Kim Hye-jun as Jeong Ji-an. The action thriller also stars Yoo Hyeon-su as Kim Woo-jin, Jo Han-sun as Bale, Geum Hae-na as So Min-hye, Lee Tae-young as Brother, Okada Masaki as J, Jung Yun-ha as Kusanagi Jin, Hyunri as Q, and others.
A Shop for Killers Season 2 Episode 3 Recap
In episode 3 of A Shop for Killers season 2, the story starts six years ago and presents additional information about Q’s background and relationship with Jin-man. Disguised as a hotel worker, Q keeps track of a hostage situation where a VIP and his family are taken hostage. Noticing that some hostages are terrorists, Q warns Kusanagi that entering the premises with a team could be risky. Nevertheless, Kusanagi ignores Q’s advice and sends his team, including J, into the hostage situation. Right after the start of the mission, an explosion surprises J, and while Q tries to assist, Jin-man drags her away from the explosion.
The flashback continues when Jin-man is included in the process and helps his colleague Honda get rid of the terrorists. When Q is captured, she demonstrates immediately that she is well able to rescue herself. She gives Jin-man a wink and turns the tables on the remaining terrorists. After the successful completion of the mission, Jin-man presents himself as a Korean Special Forces soldier.
J thanks him for rescuing him, while Q develops instant interest in Jin-man and invites him to have a drink with her. He has to go out of the country; however, Jin-man assures them that they may meet again. But in the present time, Q works for Babylon, and the mission that she gets puts Jin-man and Ji-an right in her way.
On the other hand, Ji-an continues trying to figure out Woo-jin after seeing the guns on his boat. However, she refuses to hear any explanations from him and starts probing the Murthehelp platform, which is a mystery to her. Though the official website does not work anymore, later on, Ji-an finds out that Babylon develops a new application version of the service. It is going to be an open market for weapons, and Ji-an will have a bounty on her head as soon as the number of users becomes high enough.
Ji-an installs cameras at various places near Woo-jin’s house and boat, thus helping her discover the reality of his doings. She discovers him having meetings with an older sailor carrying children with him. When one of the girls gets badly injured, the sailor proposes that they should leave her behind instead of getting caught. Ji-an stops Woo-jin from leaving behind the girl while helping her. She realises later on that Woo-jin had been helping immigrants secretly carry their children in the country. He also reveals that he was unaware of the guns he was carrying for the sailor.
The growing conflict between Ji-an and Woo-jin becomes less and less until the former begins to comprehend the latter. The explanation is given by the ladies from the fish market who tell that Woo-jin lost his parents first and then his grandfather; thus, the whole community raised him together, which is the reason why everybody on the island regards Woo-jin as their son. In the end, Ji-an asks Woo-jin to have a meal with her and tells him not to surrender to the police, as there are other ladies on the island who still need him. Through their nightly runs, their joint meals and discussions, Ji-an starts to feel like she belongs somewhere.
But peace is not destined to endure. A hoodlum by the name of Yong finds out that Woo-jin had something to do with the disappearance of the weaponry and promises to aid the elderly sailor in return for knowledge on Ji-an. As Ji-an recounts her childhood spent under the strict watch of Jin-man, Woo-jin reminds her that she is loved now—and by him too. He holds her hand, and just as they share a tender moment, Yong and his henchmen catch up to them.
Ji-an and Woo-jin hurry back to Ji-an’s house, and soon her traps, which she had set up so carefully, come into effect. After killing some of the attackers, Ji-an armours up and gets ready to fight. At the end of A Shop for Killers Season 2 episode 3, as Yong is about to approach them, their remaining enemies get shot at. Ji-an is surprised to see Min-hye walk in.
A Shop for Killers Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
Episode 4 of A Shop for Killers Season 2 puts the spotlight on Jin-man again, along with the building up of the tension with Babylon. This time, Jin-man and his gang conduct a search for Yong and his gang members since they found out that they are out to get Ji-an. As Jin-man sets out to look for Ji-an, J and his gang turn up at the dock where Jin-man has taken refuge. Their task was simple: to catch Jin-man alive, but Bale had other plans.
The flashback shows that it was Kusanagi who chose J to conduct the mission because she thinks he will be able to maintain his calmness. The flashback also reveals that J is the younger brother of Q. At the shipping area, J’s team of J falls into the trap set by Cheol-seung. Sensing something strange on the radio, J enters the shipping container even when Bale tries to stop him. Cheol-seung launches an attack on them and locks them inside the container. They go further inside, and J finally faces Jin-man and fights him.
As J tries to defeat Jin-man, Bale rushes in and starts shooting. Jin-man escapes, but J prevents Bale from doing any further damage by telling him that Jin-man is to be captured alive. Bale reacts by beating up J, causing him to get seriously injured. He later continues to chase Jin-man, who hides himself inside a crane which lifts him and carries him away. Cheol-seung operates the crane, lifting the container along with Jin-man and Bale in it. Darkness takes over the place, and Jin-man dons his night vision goggles.
This fight grows more intense for Jin-man and Bale as they sustain various injuries. At one point, Bale removes the goggles from Jin-man’s face and puts them on his own because he thinks that he can now gain control of the situation. Nevertheless, Jin-man has set up yet another trap for him. When the goggles explode, this causes an extremely loud blast right next to Bale’s face. Even after that, Jin-man doesn’t want to take any risks and shoots Bale several times.
Kusanagi is compelled to face the aftermath of the failure of the mission back in Babylon. She makes K destroy a bus filled with employees and the driver of the bus, even when there was no connection between them and the mission. She manipulates the whole story by making her team pin the blame on Jin-man for the death of J without admitting that Bale had betrayed her.
Ji-an is preparing to leave Hanam-do with Min-hye and the cleaning team. As she leaves, she takes a look at the meal prepared by the women of the island for her and confesses that she has enjoyed a normal life there. In fact, she even regrets that she couldn’t live like this when she was growing up along with Jin-man. On the other hand, Woo-jin realises that the lighthouse has been switched off and there is a huge ship near the island. Q has come.
However, Woo-jin runs away to warn Ji-an so that Min-hye and Kim Jae-won can resist the enemies while Ji-an and Woo-jin flee from there via a different route. The bad guys use drones and bombs to track down the heroes, whereas Min-hye and Jae-won retaliate against the enemies attacking them at home. The two finally get to the port where Q blows up their escape route, but when she threatens Woo-jin, Min-hye shows up and attacks her.
Q will not let them off the hook and makes an impressive jump from the dock to the moving ship. After that, she and Min-hye start to quarrel, but then Ji-an uses a flare gun to send Q into the water. Nevertheless, there is still a team of Q in the water that starts to attack the boat and shoot at it. It causes serious wounds to Woo-jin.
Losing a lot of blood, he expresses his gratitude to Ji-an because she spent time with him, and then loses consciousness. Scared and helpless, Ji-an calls the name of Jin-man three times just like he once taught her to do when she was little and at the end of A Shop for Killers Season 2 episode 4, he appears.
A Shop for Killers Season 2 Episode 3-4 Review
These two episodes were pure fire, and honestly, I think that A Shop for Killers Season 2 kdrama ep 3 and 4 met all my expectations for this season. First, we got a sweet side of Ji-an’s life before the drama in the next episode brought her back to reality. I loved how Ji-an gradually lowered her defences in front of Woo-jin. The development of the relationship was not forced, and it came naturally to them through their daily interactions and conversations. Seeing how Ji-an got used to such sweet things after all of her preparation for danger made the storyline of the island even more significant.
In these episodes, Kim Hye-jun keeps Ji-an approachable due to her ability to balance strength with vulnerability. Ji-an remains sharp and is still capable of protecting herself in these episodes; however, she also shows how much she desires to lead a regular life. The conversation she had with Jin-man regarding her training was very touching because it clearly demonstrated that she knows the reason behind it despite not feeling love during her upbringing.
Woo-jin brings out her softer side, and his confession of his love for her is perhaps the most emotional moment from Episode 3. Lee Dong-wook was also good at making the appearance of Jin-man back into the plot impressive. Despite the limited screen time of Jin-man in many scenes, his appearance in the helicopter is what the plot needed.
Action was another element worth mentioning. From the nightclub scene in Episode 3 of A Shop for Killers 2 to the shipping-container fight and the Hanam-do assault in Episode 4, the intensity of the action continued to escalate while maintaining the thrill. Bale continues to be one of the most unpredictable characters, and Jo Han-sun plays his violent and erratic behaviour well, making it hard to look away from him. It was unexpected how Bale betrayed J, while the reaction of Jin-man to Bale’s apparent survival was funny since it was obvious that one explosion is not enough for Jin-man.
Q also became more fascinating following the discovery that J is her brother, and the cover-up of Kusanagi regarding the death of J could lead to some problems for them in the future. Min-hye is once again one of the most active characters in the episode, as she appeared at the right time at Ji-an’s house and later faced Q during the escape from her house. The Hanam-do assault also received a lot of depth through the help of Kim Jae-won and the cleaning crew, and Woo-jin became a significant character for Ji-an emotionally.
All I would like to say is that the drama appears to be hell-bent on making Ji-an experience emotional torture once she starts feeling happy about something. As soon as she becomes accustomed to the island and starts bonding with Woo-jin, Babylon takes away all her happiness. The conclusion of episode 4 of A Shop for Killers 2 was extremely intriguing yet heart-wrenching, and I am really praying that Woo-jin does not die. On the other hand, there are so many new angles that have been created due to the death of J, the fate of Bale, Q’s next step, and the return of Jin-man.
