The reason why 결혼의 완성 is so addictive is not because of the kidnapping storyline or just the countless number of twists that lie ahead at every corner. What makes this so good is how each revelation intensifies the psychological trauma of the characters while simultaneously bringing in characters who are morally grey and whose intentions cannot always be determined easily. The series always seems to make us empathise with characters we never would have thought about and mistrust the people we liked from the very beginning.
As the show is approaching its final week of screening, many people are now seeking out a new drama to provide the same emotional connection and suspenseful plots that are found within the series. With Shin Sung-rok, Lee Se-young, and Ahn Bo-hyun at the helm, Kairos is all about the desperate struggle to save their loved ones from a disaster that is waiting to befall them. Despite having introduced a new aspect of time-communication into the plot, the emotion behind it all remains quite similar to The Husband kdrama.
In the series, there is always an element of escalation in terms of surprises and tough situations. In much the same way as Tae-ju relentlessly seeks out the truth even though she is pursued by the police, the characters in Kairos need to outwit their foes and deal with situations that seem to be impossible to deal with.
Mine (2021)
Starring Lee Bo-young, Kim Seo-hyung and Ok Ja-yeon, Mine moves from the hospital corridors to the influential family’s property but retains the same sense of hidden truths and dangerous power plays. Similar to the Korean drama The Husband, it turns out that the first impression can be deceiving since everyone in this household has his/her own motives.
The main strength of this drama is the ability of this show to reveal hidden corruption under wealth and privilege. Just like the scandal that has been created by Dr Ko Dong-chan and the illegal activities conducted within Woori Hospital, Mine is able to show how power can corrupt the process of justice and ruin people’s lives.
Doctor Prisoner (2019)
For those who enjoyed Namkoong Min in The Husband, this drama is one that they should not hesitate to watch. Once again, he portrays an extremely intelligent doctor who challenges the powerful system of the world, which has used its influence for personal gains. Despite being about revenge, instead of marriage, this series is also similar to the first one.
The play is also quite adept at uncovering corruption in powerful entities. As with the secret plot by the doctors in The Husband, each time the hero wins, there seems to be an even greater hurdle awaiting him. It is not through brute force but rather through strategy that the protagonist beats his opponents.
