Dilwali Diwali Review

Netflix’s Dilwali Diwali revolves around Ansh, who has been living in Norway for three years, and he wishes to provide his parents with a good life. He gifts them an expensive flat, thinking that it would be the best way of expressing his love and gratitude towards them.

On the other hand, Goggi and Sukhi do not want to leave their house because they have lived there for many years and have made many friends and formed many memories in that place. They do not express their thoughts to Ansh, butt start acting as if they have shifted to the new flat. When Ansh returns home for Diwali, the family finds itself caught in an increasingly difficult situation as everyone tries to protect the feelings of the people they love.

From my experience, the theme of home has always been intriguing in family movies. The reason is very simple. Different people may perceive one and the same place in totally different ways. It goes without saying that for Ansh, the new apartment means everything he wants to give his parents. At the same time, for Goggi and Sukhi, the old house means the world they created with their own hands. Netflix film Dilwali Diwali gets that difference well enough. This is why its plot is so easy to relate to.

The best thing about the story is that there is no malice involved on anyone’s part. Ansh does not want to take his parents anywhere with him for his own personal benefit; rather, he truly feels that they deserve better after all those years away from him. It’s done out of the goodness of his heart, but what the movie tells us is that love can sometimes turn into a burden.

Goggi and Sukhi are no different. The decision not to tell the truth may be frustrating, yet I can easily comprehend why they choose to do so. In addition, they do not wish to disappoint their son in the end, who has done so much to help them out. This leads to another dilemma where everyone tries to avoid any conflicts, while complicating their life even further. This is a common problem that appears in the Indian family.

Goggi happens to be one of my favourite characters from Netflix’s Dilwali Diwali movie. The way Manoj Pahwa has portrayed the character makes him very likeable through his sense of humour. His banter with his buddies in the mornings while having chole bhature shows the world he enjoys living in, and that explains why moving away from his neighbourhood was not an easy task for him because he had no problem with the lifestyle he had in that neighbourhood.

Neelu Kohli’s Sukhi is equally important to the emotional side of the story. While the feeling of nostalgia experienced by Goggi is fairly easy to explain, there is more depth in the character of Sukhi, which adds to the family’s problems. It is especially captivating to learn about how much she devoted herself to the needs of her family throughout her life. I really enjoyed the fact that this movie allowed Sukhi to have her desires.

On the other hand, it would be nice to see the development of Sukhi’s personality more. The desire of this woman may have become an additional element in the struggle of the family members, in connection with the fact that the choice made by Ansh should be aimed at ensuring a decent life for his parents. And there is a certain difference between giving someone comfort and knowing his/her wishes.

The best part of the movie is the use of Diwali to reunite the family. While the return of Ansh should be an event that brings joy, the expectations to make it all picture-perfect change the mood of the whole thing. This is something I can definitely relate to. Sometimes we get so caught up in making sure an event leaves a lasting memory that we fail to actually have fun with the people we celebrate it with.

But I do believe that the movie would have done well by giving greater attention to the individual points of view of the family members. The concept of leaving an old home is quite significant, but there are always very fast transitions from one scene to another in the movie. There was a need to understand the importance of the old neighbourhood for Sukhi, the experiences of separation from his family, and Ansh and Mahi’s reaction to the changes taking place.

The other thing that I found quite familiar about this movie is its message. We have all seen numerous examples of kids trying to give their parents a life that is more comfortable for them, only to come to the realisation that happiness is not achieved through material possessions. The 2026 movie Dilwali Diwali doesn’t seem to present any new approach to that concept, as some of its emotional elements could have been predicted. However, I did not find this familiarity completely disappointing since there is always something nice in watching people learn to communicate with each other, without being evil.

Netflix Dilwali Diwali Review: Summing Up

Overall, 2026 Dilwali Diwali is an endearing family movie with genuine performances and an endearing storyline on the themes of love, communication, and belonging. The script could have been better, and the characters needed more development, but it does leave a positive impact nonetheless. I will recommend this movie to those who want to watch something heartwarming during this Diwali season.
