How Did Annie’s Mother Really Die?
Annie begins her life in Sterling Point under the impression that her mother, Goldie, had died due to cancer when she was just two years old. This is the story that Annie and her brother Connor had heard since they were children. Yet, once they arrived at Sterling Point, Annie discovers that much of what they were told about her family’s history was untrue. Discussions with Denise, Gordon’s old letters, and Joe’s responses all suggest that the reality was very different from what Annie thought it was. As time went by, Joe inadvertently disclosed to Annie the true reason why Goldie had died: she had actually died while giving birth to Ramona.
The Sterling Point episode 8 provides the missing pieces of the story. Joe reveals that Goldie had a hidden heart problem, which none of them knew until she began labour pains. Everyone just thought that the pain was from contractions during birth. Joe rushed Goldie to the hospital for an emergency C-section because the doctor needed to deliver both Goldie and her baby safely. Before she could go to the operating room, Goldie smiled at Joe, despite the situation they were facing together. Sadly, it would be the last time he would see her alive. She died from some unknown complications from the delivery and not cancer, leaving behind her husband, children Annie, Connor, and little Ramona.
Who Is Ramona’s Biological Father?
In the entire season, everybody, including Ramona herself, believes that Joe is her biological father. This assumption makes sense because there is a very strong romantic relationship between Goldie and Joe, Gordon trusts Joe and considers making him the guardian for Ramona, and an old mixtape made by Goldie proves how happy she was to create a future with him and bring up their children. The guardianship papers for Joe, found out by Ellis, further solidify the belief that Joe was Ramona’s father. Even Steven manages to let this out in front of everybody, betraying Ramona once again because of yet another big secret.
However, the reality is far worse than the reader can imagine. Once Ramona identifies common traits, which prompt her to doubt everything, she chooses to check her true parentage by undergoing a DNA test. Her suspicions prove correct in that she finds out that Steven, and not Joe is her biological father.
It implies that Goldie gave birth to her kid by Steven, thus being a full-blooded daughter. Joe was never Ramona’s biological father; however, he genuinely loved Goldie and wanted to bring up all of the children until his wife’s death made it impossible. At the end of Sterling Point, while the DNA test solves the mystery for Ramona, it raises a new emotional dilemma as she has to decide if she wants to have any kind of relation with Steven, knowing that he is her real father.
Why Do Ramona and Oona Break Up?
The development of the bond between Ramona and Oona is very slow due to the insecurity that Ramona always has. The bond is continuously hindered by the constant misunderstanding, jealousy, and lack of self-confidence on the part of Ramona. Finally, after several emotionally charged conversations, Ramona apologises for her previous conduct, and the two end up confessing their feelings through a kiss. It appears for some time that the two have managed to surmount the challenges that were hindering their progress into a healthy relationship.
However, the discovery that Steven is Ramona’s biological father has changed everything. At once, Ramona starts pondering over leaving Sterling Point for New York in order to get to know her new family and live a new life outside the island. Oona is afraid of being abandoned, and this fear controls her during their talk.
Ramona perceives the way Oona acts as selfish because she thinks Oona is concerned about losing her girlfriend rather than Ramona’s needs at this challenging period of time. The argument becomes even more serious and opens up old wounds for the girls. In the ending of Sterling Point, we see that they realise that they do not have anything in common anymore; Oona realises that it would be better for them to break up.
What Happens to Annie at the End of Sterling Point?
Annie, by the time the Prime Video Sterling Point ends, will have changed from the nervous young woman who first came to the island seeking answers into a wholly new individual. Throughout the summer, she learns the truth regarding the circumstances surrounding her mother’s death, learns that Ramona is really her sister, comes to terms with her distorted view of the history of her family, and finds real happiness with Ellis. While Steven hopes that Annie will leave Sterling Point for good and return to New York, Annie finds that the island has become much more than simply an inheritance to her.
It has become the place where she comes to terms with herself and heals from all the secrets she has kept inside of her. Finally, Joe tells Annie what actually happened to Goldie’s death, providing her with the closure she has been trying to find all season long. Once she learns the whole story, Annie sees Ramona hugging Steven and understands that both of them need something else to keep moving on.
She convinces them not to force themselves into living one future when they can choose their own paths and switch lives, in fact. Ramona will go to New York to get acquainted with Steven and live the life Annie used to live there, while Annie stays at Sterling Point surrounded by Ellis and all those people who gave her a chance to be happy again.
Will There Be Sterling Point Season 2?
Prime Video has yet to confirm a Season 2 of Sterling Point based on the source material provided; however, the ending is definitely set up for a second season rather than having the story tied up with a neat bow. Annie decides to stay at Sterling Point with Ellis, while Ramona leaves for New York to start a life with Steven.
Additionally, Connor gets a call from the adoption agency stating that his biological mother has been found, thus introducing a brand new storyline that goes unexplained at the end of the season. At the same time, the fate of Sterling Point itself still hangs in the balance since Annie wants to keep the island, but Ramona and Connor think about selling it.
