How Did Mr Kim Rescue Ri Eung Ryeong?

By the time the South Korean delegate, Ri Eung-ryeong, had been taken to the North Korean delegation, Mr Kim understood that an attack would lead nowhere. Along with his team consisting of Han-su, Jin-cheol, Sang-a and Im Ho-won, he prepared an elaborate plan which depended more on the right timing and coordination than on power. After having forced Ju Gang-chan to reveal the existence of a tunnel which led to the hotel, the team used this way to get into the building undetected and split their duties.

As for Sang-a and Jin-cheol, they dressed up in the uniforms of hotel workers in order to go about without attracting attention, while Han-su hid under a trolley in order to gain access to restricted zones. Meanwhile, they gained control of the surveillance room in order for Sang-a to locate the precise suite where the torture of Ri Eung-ryeong took place. The escape plan had been as well coordinated as ever before. Mr Kim planned on getting Ri Eung-ryeong out via the laundry van when it came into the hotel for ten minutes, with Im Ho-won coordinating all the plans from outside the premises.

But the whole mission turned into total chaos when the North Koreans realised what was going on. There were no communications, an EMP blast rendered the place dark, and armed agents swarmed the corridors. But despite all the challenges that emerged, Mr Kim overcame all the hurdles and made sure that Ri Eung Ryeong got out of the suite. While both of them were ultimately cornered close to the loading dock, Sang-a came to their rescue in time.

Were Han-su and Jin-cheol Able to Save Their Children?

Yes, Han-su and Jin-cheol managed to save their children eventually; however, they did it thanks to Mr Kim, whom they trusted and with whom they risked everything in the nick of time. Ju Gang-chan kidnapped the boys and made the three guys choose between themselves and their loved ones by doing so. After kidnapping Mr Kim, Han-su and Jin-cheol, Ju put them all in the cage and showed them that their children were being used as hostages outside the cage at gunpoint.

Then, he offered the two dads a deal: either kill Mr Kim in five minutes or watch their children being killed. Despite how it seemed that Han-su and Jin-cheol betrayed their lifelong friend, that terrible battle was in fact a spontaneous scheme. Instead of beating Mr Kim up, each blow of fists and kicks was intended to break the net around the cage without Ju noticing anything. All that changed when Ju dared Mr Kim, saying Min-ji would soon be without a father. This time around, Mr Kim was spurred into action, and Han-su and Jin-cheol took full advantage of the perfect chance to enact their plan.

Just as Ju got too close to celebrate his success, both friends rammed themselves against the torn net, successfully managing to destroy it and set themselves free. With the three of them joining forces, they managed to beat up Ju’s men and leave the hideout. Realising that the kids might still be in danger, Mr Kim left in order to take care of the bigger issue, leaving Han-su and Jin-cheol to go save their own kids, taking them to safety with Jin-cheol’s wife. Because of their cooperation, swift thinking and total trust in each other, not only did they manage to escape the lethal trap set by Ju, but they were able to return to their families as well.

What Happened to Ju Gang-chan at the End of Agent Kim Reactivated?

The empire built by Ju Gang-chan fell apart in the last episode, as every crime committed by him caught up to him. After Ju’s attempt to bribe Mr Kim by threatening to kidnap the children of Han-su and Jin-cheol failed, he lost all the power he possessed till that time on the show. Although he was able to avoid immediate punishment, Mr Kim saw to it that no one would come to his rescue ever again. With the help of the information collected by the investigators, Mr Kim asked his trustworthy friend to expose the illegal activities of Juhak Construction.

This small act of his started a massive investigation against the financial dealings of the construction firm with many powerful politicians. It resulted in search warrants, inquiries for corruption and the arrest of Assemblyman Kang. Even the Vice Minister, who had secretly collaborated with Ju for personal gains, could not get away from Mole Cricket. On the other hand, Hye-ri found herself in the middle of Cambodia as she became an embarrassment for the country because of her father’s crimes.

Ju himself was put in an even worse situation. Seriously hurt and hanging off the building, he managed to get away only to be arrested on various charges of kidnapping, murder, and several other crimes. Yet Ju’s fall didn’t stop there – the businessman wasn’t taken to court. Instead, after being released from the hospital, Ju went out to face the reporters who were waiting for answers regarding the scandal at the Juhak Construction company and Hye-ri’s role in it.

Before he could say anything, Golden Teeth came out in front of all the cameras and stabbed him. What Happened to Ri Eung Ryeong in the Ending of Agent Kim Reactivated?

While Ri Eung Ryeong managed to survive the final clash, it seems like neither the South nor North Korean governments expected such a future for this man. Once Mr Kim and his colleagues freed him from the North Korean delegation, the man received heavy wounds during his escape and was placed in Myeongjin Hospital with a strong guard presence. Being the only one who could provide vital information on North Korea’s missile program, the Special Missions Directorate started interrogating the man even while he was receiving medical help. Ri Eung Ryeong agreed to answer the questions and told all the secrets about missile facilities, their abilities and further plans on weapons development.

As a result of such cooperation, Ri Eung Ryeong asked only for one thing—to be transferred to Macau. However, the authorities promised to consider the request, but in vain. But that was not what Mr Kim had in mind. He disguised himself as a doctor and made his way into the hospital. After getting rid of the guards in the hospital, he sneaked Ri Eung-ryeong out of the hospital in an ambulance and handed him to Park Gang-seong, the younger brother of the original 66 who had been killed due to the betrayal of Ri Eung-ryeong years back.

In Agent Kim Reactivated Episode 10, we see that Gang-seong, however, had no intention of taking Ri Eung-ryeong’s life quickly and painlessly. Instead of killing him instantly, Gang-seong brought him back to the shore of North Korea and left him unconscious there. Upon regaining consciousness, Ri Eung Ryeong first thought that the government of South Korea fulfilled his last will and took him to Macau. His hopes were soon shattered by the realisation that the access card which he was carrying was stolen and, having surveyed his surroundings, he saw that he was once again back in North Korea.

Since the authorities of North Korea had already branded him a traitor, going back home made him their next victim. With the army closing in and pursuing him, Ri Eung Ryeong had no choice but to start running for his life. Having left him in the very country which wanted to kill him, Gang-seong condemned him to living the rest of his life always being on the lookout for the next danger. It was a far more brutal punishment than a fast death, as Ri Eung Ryeong had to feel fear, betrayal and despair just like he did years ago to others.

Did Mr Kim Really Die?

No, Mr Kim didn’t really die. His alleged death was just an operation aimed at wiping out the traces of Code 66 completely from the face of the earth. After rescuing Ri Eung Ryeong, from whom the intelligence was obtained, Mr Kim had a talk with the SMD chief. Up to this point in time, the identity of Mr Kim as an infamous North Korean agent had become known to both countries. So long as Code 66 was alive, he was sure to continue to be a target for both governments. Moreover, Min-ji would never be able to have a normal life in such circumstances.

This being the case, the SMD chief felt that the only solution to ensure the safety of Mr Kim and his daughter was to make everyone think that Code 66 had died. Very soon, it was announced that a man of forty years had been shot dead somewhere close to the resort, and the North Korean authorities confirmed the report. Even Min-ji was shocked to hear the news, thinking that she had lost her father forever. Luckily for them, that wasn’t all there was to the plan. Once the death of Mr Kim became a reality for both parties, he and Min-ji united secretly in one of the drama’s most touching scenes.

The two hugged as they gazed into the bright future that they’d worked so hard for. Now that Code 66 was dead and buried, the two received new identities to start anew, leaving behind their past and any fear of being chased again. In essence, Mr Kim didn’t fake his death; he allowed Code 66 to die.

From beginning to end, Mr Kim has shown time and time again that he is tired of being a legendary hitman or intelligence agent. All he ever wanted was to live as a simple father who can laugh and grow old with his daughter, watching over her as she grows up to finally live the life that his deceased wife always wished for them.

Did Mr Kim and Min-ji Get Their Happy Ending?

Of course, although everything that has happened has been a tough challenge for both Mr Kim and Min-ji, they finally received their well-deserved peaceful ending, which they had been struggling for since the first episodes of the series. Indeed, at the end of Episode 10 of Agent Kim Reactivated, the story moves on from completing yet another mission to talking about the new life that starts for them. To begin with, Min-ji moves to a new school where she could finally forget about the bullying that made her suffer so much.

Prior to moving to a new place, Min-ji talks to Nam-hoon for the last time, accepts his apology, but does not want to keep in touch anymore because it was time to move on. The end narration by Min-ji perfectly explains why life had been different, not because her father had failed to protect her but because she had seen her father smile after many years. The three adult friends had actually taken some time off for a happy afternoon shopping for new glasses along a street appropriately nicknamed Happiness Street.

For so long, Mr Kim had been known as the feared Code 66 but was now nothing more than a father enjoying moments with his family. Although there was a bright future awaiting Mr Kim, the series showed that what was really rewarding about the future was the opportunity for him and Min-ji to live as a family without past fears.

Will There Be Agent Kim Reactivated Season 2?

The ending of Agent Kim Reactivated clearly shows that a lot is yet to happen. At the end of the series, Mr Kim has managed to get rid of his past identity, which was that of Code 66, and has started living peacefully with Min-ji, using a different name now. But that is not all that happens. At the very end of the series, Mr Kim goes through a job interview process with Lee Do-gyu, who quickly decides to put him through combat tests.

The drama’s strong viewership, positive reception and the popularity of Mr Kim, Han-su and Jin-cheol have also made people think that it may receive a sequel. There can be no doubt about the fact that the ending gives an impression of the beginning of a new journey rather than of an end; thus, the season 2 of Agent Kim Reactivated is really possible. But at the same time, one should remember the fact that there was no official statement regarding the second season on the part of SBS and its producers. It remains to be seen if success will make the characters return.
