j-hope Killin’ It Girl MV feat. GloRilla is just the kind of comeback fans have been wanting, and believe me, it doesn’t disappoint. His post-military phase is leaving us all gasping for air, and I’m not even trying to breathe. He’s obviously in a new creative phase, and I’m totally obsessed with this bold, edgy Jung Hoseok. As part of BTS Festa 2025—to celebrate the group’s 12th anniversary—Killin’ It Girl with GloRilla was released on June 13 at 1 PM KST, and it’s an unapologetic ode to this BTS era. With only SUGA remaining to complete serving (June 21), this Festa is resonating differently, and Hobi just made it iconic.

Directed by Cody Critcheloe, this MV is the third instalment of j-hope’s post-military solo release, following Sweet Dreams (feat. Miguel) and Mona Lisa. The singles have presented us with a fresh mood and flavour each: Sweet Dreams was dreamy and romantic, Mona Lisa was danceable, and now Killin’ It Girl is hip-hop with a hint of street glam and Latin spice.

Honestly, as soon as the teaser was released, I knew this was going to pack a punch—and it completely does. j-hope isn’t just experimenting with sound—he’s reshaping the way we perceive him as a solo act.

Now, let’s talk about the track. Killin’ It Girl is a swaggering hip-hop anthem with strong Latin influences. It pairs an unusual percussive underpinning with a silky, pop-accessible hook that gets stuck in your head on first listen. The beat’s nearly glass-sharp: spoons against glass, but that weird texture’s smoothed away by lush synths that fill the space to a tee. It’s layered, it’s dynamic, and it’s all danceable.

GloRilla’s verse elevates it to another level. Her vibe is intense, forceful, and unapologetic. She has a no-BS attitude on this track that is beautifully complemented by j-Hope’s suave swagger. They create a union that’s surprising but destined. The tension is not romantic—it’s palpable.

And now, the music video. I’m not kidding—I’ve watched it ten times already. Filmed in sleek black-and-white, the visual is minimalist streetwear chic with j-hope at its centre. Nothing but him, the camera, the street, and the beat. No gaudy distractions. And yet, it’s mesmerising. The choreography (naturally) is flawless—because when has Hoseok ever let us down? He dances like his body is silk, flowing through every movement with silky, buttery ease. From crisp isolations to sultry shoulder rolls, he reminds us why he’s still one of the best dancers in K-pop.

And the fashion and styling also need a huge shout-out. j-hope is wearing a black ripped tee with a whisper of embellishment, matched with silver accessories that give the look a luxe, edgy feel. It’s raw and refined at the same time. But the best part? That leather jacket moment—shirtless, bold, and straight-up jaw-dropping. It’s sexy, it’s bold, and yes, it gave us the skip. The black-and-white colour grading takes the entire aesthetic to the next level, giving each shot mood and depth. And overall, it shows a more mature, braver j-hope that’s just magnetic.

What actually struck me is the way this video, like his others, further perpetuates his subtle empowerment of women. In Mona Lisa, he pumped up an independent woman with the phrase, “Independent check, got her own check.” And in Killin’ It Girl, he does it again even more with: “All without a man, oh, you killin’ it, girl.” It’s suave, respectful, and empowering—and I love that he keeps that consistent.

As a die-hard fan, I love this aspect of j-hope so much. He’s the same sunshiny, performance-hungry artist we’ve always loved, but now there’s a maturity to his solo material that mirrors where he’s at in life. From the ethereal Sweet Dreams with Miguel to the bop-filled Mona Lisa, and now this explosive collab with GloRilla, j-hope’s serving up variety, artistry, and a whole lot of attitude.
