TABLO X RM Stop The Rain Review: Certain collaborations leave you sitting up and waiting with anticipation because you just know they’re going to bring something impactful. That’s precisely how I felt about Tablo and RM reuniting. On May 2, 2025, their much-awaited TABLO X RM Stop The Rain was finally released. And trust me, it wasn’t merely a song, it was like a message to the soul.

The music video, more like a visualizer, uses animation instead of live footage. Since RM is still serving in the military, and as Tablo explained, this song was actually written while Namjoon was preparing for his first solo album, it seems they didn’t have much time to create a full music video. Still, the animated visuals by Shockunit (animation by @phuncal) beautifully match the mood and depth of the song.

RM and Tablo have collaborated on music before. Their previous song All Day was a hot mix of biting lyrics, rich emotions, and nonconformist energy. So, when I found out they were collaborating again, I was really stoked. These musicians don’t churn out popular songs—these are songs that speak of actual issues such as social pressure, identity, and individual freedom.

Before I get into the song, I just want to say something about Kim Namjoon as an artist. He has always struck me so hard with his words. His method of expressing feelings and thoughts is something I truly admire. From his masterful mixtapes to solo albums such as Indigo and Right People, Wrong Place, RM does not simply provide us with good rap songs—he provides us with an experience. His music always sounds cinematic and very personal. He always challenges himself to try new themes and styles.

And then there’s Tablo. Honestly, he doesn’t need an introduction. His narratives have always been exceptional in the Korean hip-hop world. His lyrics are so full of emotion and meaning, and he has this special gift of speaking to your heart through music.

Now, let’s talk about the song Stop The Rain. Some songs don’t just sound nice—they talk to your soul. This one by TABLO and RM hit me very hard. It’s not music; it’s a confession, a scream, and a silent whisper all together. The first time I heard it, I didn’t know I would feel this seen, but somehow, it put emotions into words that I’ve never been able to put into words.

From the beginning, there is this heavy atmosphere. It’s not the kind of sorrow you hear in pop music—it’s truer, more authentic, and to be honest, a bit frightening. It’s the kind of thing that happens when you grow up in a place where you never felt safe, where people who were supposed to guard you made you feel shattered. The song does not attempt to keep things behind metaphors. It just speaks the truth, plain and unadorned. And that makes it strong.

One line that especially struck me was when RM states he believed he was “meant for the 27 club.” That one punched me in the stomach. For those not aware, the 27 club is a list of well-known artists who have passed away at age 27, usually through overdose or suicide. It’s not a pretty concept—it’s heartbreaking.

And listening to him confess that he used to think he wouldn’t live beyond age 27 reveals so much about where his mind was. I’ve had times when the future seemed like a dark blur to me as well, where I didn’t know if things would ever get better. So to hear that from someone like Kim Namjoon, who appears so strong and successful on the outside, made me feel less isolated.

TABLO’s part, in particular, made me cry. He speaks of growing up in a religious household, being belittled, and feeling that love was yet another way to control. That notion of being “raised by guilt” actually lingered with me. I think many of us, particularly those from strict families, can relate to that. You’re being told what is right and wrong all the time, but nobody asks you how you’re really doing. It just accumulates until one day you find yourself just existing, not living.

The bridge brings it all together beautifully. “Can’t run away from the pain, I’m tryna stop the rain”—straightforward, yet it says everything. That feeling of trying to keep your head above water while your mind’s dragging you under is so genuine. It’s like being stuck in a tempest, yet instead of rushing to grab an umbrella, you just sit and endure it because you don’t know what to do otherwise.

What I like best about this song is that it doesn’t provide false hope. It doesn’t conclude with a positive message or state “everything’s gonna be okay.” It just says the truth: sometimes, life sucks, and pain does not disappear because you wish for it to. But even amidst all the gloom, the process of sharing your pain, of creating art out of your scars, is a form of healing in itself.

To hear this song is to sit in front of someone who finally pours out everything they’ve been bottling up inside. It’s dense, certainly—but it’s also reassuring on some level. Because when you see someone pour their pain so vividly into words, you remember that you’re not in this alone with yours.

So if you’re struggling, or even if you just can’t keep up the act anymore and are tired of pretending to be okay all the time, listen to this song. Don’t think it will make you better—but perhaps, possibly, just possibly, it might make you feel a little more heard.
