Who Was Samaira’s Biological Father, and Why Did Arjun Decide to Defend Shauryaman?

Arjun Mehta had made a name for himself by being by the side of the innocent, so it goes without saying that he had no plans of becoming a lawyer for Shauryaman Gaur after he was charged with assaulting Soma Mittal. In all aspects, Shauryaman appeared guilty, but Arjun did not want anything to do with a person whom he thought had committed such a brutal act. But then came the day when he faced the most tragic event of his life, when his little girl, Samaira, was diagnosed with leukaemia. The only way she would survive was through a stem cell transplant, but medical testing showed that neither Arjun nor Avantika could be a match.

Before marrying Arjun, Avantika had been in a relationship with Shauryaman, and Samaira had been the daughter conceived through this affair. The father had left her without taking any responsibility, after which came Arjun in her life, who raised Samaira as his daughter without ever discriminating against her. As there was only one matching donor for Samaira, there was nothing much Arjun could do other than ask for help from the person he hated most.

Seeing that Arjun was helpless in this matter, Shauryaman took advantage of the situation and agreed to give his stem cells to Arjun if he successfully got him acquitted from court. Being in a tough situation where he was forced to choose between his morals and his daughter’s survival, Arjun accepted the offer.

Did Arjun Win the Shauryaman Case?

While having a feeling that Shauryaman was the guilty one, Arjun stood up for him in court using the same skill that brought him the name of “Ikka”. The defence mainly depended on the presence of Shauryaman with Soma prior to the assault and on the motive behind the crime. Arjun, however, used all the skills to create doubts rather than prove his client not guilty. He managed to play out of the court by making the prosecutor, Madhura, think that Gauri, Shauryaman’s wife, had some dirt about her husband that she could use.

Arjun, however, provided voice recordings of the emergency call made by Gauri to the police, in which she claimed that Shauryaman was attacking her. Voices heard from the call seemed to indicate that Shauryaman was within his own house at the supposed time of the crime, which did not corroborate the story of the prosecution in any manner. Given that the evidence raised enough doubt and there was nothing that proved Shauryaman’s participation in the stabbing of Soma, the court found that the prosecution had not been able to prove his involvement beyond a reasonable doubt.

In the ending of Ikka, we see Arjun succeed in keeping up with his bargain and clear the name of Shauryaman, who could now go ahead with donating his stem cells and saving Samaira’s life. Nevertheless, this courtroom win was just a part of a bigger picture, which was far from complete.

How Shauryaman Covered Up the Crime of Killing Soma Mittal?

Shauryaman’s meeting with Soma became fatal once he began to molest her. On failing to convince her, he got frustrated in his temper tantrum and stabbed her in the neck. Thinking he would be able to get away with the crime he had committed, he threw her off the car and drove away while wishing that she would not survive until anyone came to her rescue. Soma survived to reach the hospital but later succumbed to the attack, making the attempted murder case one of murder.

Knowing the importance of having an ironclad alibi, Shauryaman got straight to work implementing his strategy. He asked his wife, Gauri, to call the police and file a complaint against him, saying that he was physically abusing her. To make things look more legitimate, his confidant Chatur mimicked Shauryaman’s voice from behind while he made the phone call. Later, Gauri was made to look very scared of her husband, and she was ready to give testimony against him, too.

This was all done so that Shauryaman would come across as the kind of man who is actually at home when the murder takes place. This elaborate act of deception fooled everyone except for Arjun, who picked up on a few inconsistencies and started working on gathering evidence instead.

What Was Arjun’s Real Ikka in the End?

Throughout the entire movie, it is thought that Arjun’s strongest card is his unbeatable skill of winning cases in the courtroom. The twist at the end is that Arjun’s strongest card isn’t the win in the courtroom but the plan he has been formulating all along. Though he defended Shauryaman and ensured that he was found not guilty of murder, Arjun had already been working on the case on his own because he did not believe his client was really innocent. He knew he had to save Samaira before anything else, so he delayed justice.

The true Ikka of Arjun was the way he managed to accomplish both tasks without compromising either. Firstly, he made sure that Shauryaman fulfilled his part and donated his stem cells, thus allowing Samaira to stay alive. Only then did he tell everyone everything he had discovered, about the fake domestic violence case, about Chatur’s impersonation in the recorded conversation, about the witness whom Shauryaman had attempted to kill, and even about his personal involvement in Soma’s murder.

Instead of rejoicing over his court win, Arjun left the case to Madhura so that she would put Shauryaman behind bars according to the law. At the end of Ikka, Shauryaman was put behind bars as Arjun understood what and when to do things.
