Agent Kim Reactivated Episode 3-4 Review: Directed by Lee Seung-young and written by Nam Dae-joong, 김부장 is adapted from the popular webtoon Manager Kim and features a stellar cast led by So Ji-sub, who plays Manager Kim. The series also features Choi Dae-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Joo Sang-wook, Son Na-eun, Kim Sung-kyu, Seo Su-min and others.

In just four episodes, the show has made waves in the industry, but truth be told, this show deserves all the publicity since it is truly a celebration of all things that make action thrillers fun. Starting from action-packed fights, emotionally charged scenes, perfectly-timed jokes, and a surprising cameo of Ok Taecyeon as the real 66, these two episodes did not fail to deliver in any way.

Agent Kim Reactivated Episode 3 Recap

Agent Kim Reactivated episode 3 starts off by bringing the audience back to the past by five months and showing a sweet peek into the relationship between Agent Kim and his daughter, Min-ji. Min-ji had asked her father to get a new phone, but was told no. She then tries to keep away from him because she believes he does not understand her. But that same night, she finds out that he had gotten her the phone and even a heart-shaped keychain.

Meanwhile, back in the current timeline, Kim leaves the police station empty-handed after getting a very cryptic call, which abruptly ends. Meanwhile, the Special Military Division continues observing every movement that Kim makes; however, they are unable to locate him since Kim does not use any form of technology whatsoever. Furthermore, Gang-chan’s daughter, Hye-ri, refuses to come out of her room following some recent happenings, forcing her father to look into what is going on.

Everything soon goes south when the person claiming to be the genuine Code 66’s younger brother enters Kim’s residence searching for some clues. The man causes Kim to get involved in a serious fight with Park Jin-cheol, after which he manages to escape, thus proving to everyone that the secrets from Kim’s past become more deadly by the day. On the other hand, Kim visits his fellow comrade Seong Han-su at the taekwondo academy to search for an old intelligence bunker where they can find Min-ji. However, intelligence officers suddenly enter the place, causing another great fight scene.

After following up on Min-ji’s cell phone, Kim and Han-su discover that it was all a part of an illegal scamming scheme. In the building, Kim finds Min-ji’s heart-shaped key chain, which assures him that Min-ji was at the place. This is the most dramatic scene from Agent Kim Reactivated Kdrama ep 3. The head of the gang says he sexually assaulted Min-ji; however, Kim loses his control and then beats the man.

Instead, the criminal confesses that he learned about Min-ji’s phone being left behind only through another person. Going through her messages, Kim comes to know how lonely his daughter had been and how much she was suffering alone without his knowledge. At the end of episode 3 of Agent Kim Reactivated, when Kim is ready to continue the search for his daughter, he finds himself face-to-face with the little brother of Code 66, holding a gun.

Agent Kim Reactivated Episode 4 Recap

Episode 4 of Agent Kim Reactivated switches the spotlight on Kim’s concealed past and sheds light on the bloody background behind the creation of these famous code names. Through flashbacks, the audience is taken back to the year 1997 at a North Korean orphanage, where the young boys engage in violent fighting to have their way into a special military program. Only the strongest individuals manage to survive the rough training and become two outstanding members, who are Number 73 -Kim and Number 66. This explains why Kim is frequently perceived as a traitor and why the brother of Number 66 does not consider him worthy of the famous name.

This episode also reveals the sad story of Golden Teeth, alternatively called Jun-dae. Some time ago, he was working as a cleaner until he became another casualty of Gang-chan’s greedy ways. After being attacked nearly fatally, he attempted to get even with Gang-chan but found himself getting humiliated and had no choice but to serve his oppressor. The loss of teeth from torture made him be referred to as “Golden Teeth”, while his enmity towards Gang-chan increased gradually with time. His current revenge scheme is to reveal Gang-chan through his daughter, Hye-ri.

Beginning where the last left off, Kim manages to escape danger due to the appearance of Han-su, Sang-a, and the owner of the laundromat. Although the intelligence agency asks Kim to surrender, he declines and vows that he will help the agents find Min-ji once she has been rescued from danger. Kim, Han-su and Jin-cheol continue the quest with new evidence that leads them to Jun-dae’s base of operations. They have a difficult time doing this, though, as they face new danger in the form of an enemy who uses bombs to blow their car to pieces, leading to another fight while Kim searches for Min-ji.

However, the final scenes of Agent Kim Reactivated ep 4, make things more complicated. After discovering where Jun-dae is, Kim confronts him with his gang members. In desperation, he asks where his daughter Min-ji is, but they do not answer his question and attack him, thus starting yet another battle between them. On the other hand, Jun-dae reaches the place where he left Min-ji frozen, but she is alive and stands at the entrance. The surprise catches him off guard and makes him realise that his plan has gone awry.

Agent Kim Reactivated Episode 3-4 Review

Episodes 3 and 4 of Agent Kim Reactivated do all the right things that were done in the first episode and take them up a notch. The show does not waste any time at all creating suspense as Kim’s efforts to find his daughter become increasingly emotional, and the action sequences never feel out of place. All the fights serve a purpose, be it helping Kim get closer to his daughter or giving us more insight into his complicated past. However, despite all these tense scenes, the show manages to keep its humorous moments in perfect balance thanks to the interactions between Kim, Han-su and Jin-cheol.

The thing that I found most impressive is how organic the series development is. The flashbacks about Kim’s past as Number 73 and the appearance of the first 66 make the story more emotionally loaded rather than just adding some background information. Even though Ok Taecyeon appears for only a few seconds, his appearance immediately becomes one of the main attractions in the episode, adding more intrigue to the mysterious past of Kim. Another remarkable thing about the drama is the well-developed motives of its villains, particularly Jun-dae.

It is still the performances that make this Agent Kim Reactivated Korean drama shine the most. As a result, So Ji-sub manages to deliver a strong emotional and action-packed performance in a way that makes Kim equally convincing both as an invincible agent and a father gradually breaking apart under the fear of losing his daughter. Choi Dae-hoon and Yoon Kyung-ho provide a good amount of action together with their comic and heartfelt portrayal of the characters, thus forming a perfect team of friends that fit each other perfectly. At the same time, Joo Sang-wook is a powerful presence whenever he is on-screen, and Son Na-eun continues to impress with the unusual personality of Hye-ri.
