Korean Drama Honour Ending Explained
What was the secret that Ra-yeong and her friends were hiding?
The truth behind the case dates back to when the three, Yoon Ra-yeong, Kang Shin-jae, and Hwang Hyeon-jin, were still in law school. On a trip, Ra-yeong’s then-boyfriend, Park Jae-yeol, also known as Park Joon-hwan at the time, attempted to assault Ra-yeong. Shin-jae and Hyeon-jin came to the latter’s defence, and the three got into a fight with Park Joon-hwan. In the course of the fight, Hyeon-jin hit the latter on the head with a branch and threw him into the river, as the three women thought that the latter was dead and remained silent about the matter, which led to the latter being reported as missing.

However, the truth is that he later survived the ordeal and was badly injured on the head, which affected his memory. He was sent overseas and came back years later with a new identity as the prosecutor, Park Jae-yeol. The three women have carried the truth with them as they went about their careers and reputations, and the reappearance of the latter in the present has the potential to expose the truth they have carried with them for two decades as they remained silent about the matter.
How did Park Jae-yeol die?
Park Jae-yeol meets his end in a blaze of violence as the Connect scandal breaks out around him. In a fit of fury and frustration, he finally manages to track down the hideout of Ra-yeong, Shin-jae, Hyeon-jin, and a few others who are trying to hide in safety. Armed with a gun, he storms the hideout and fires away, holding the three women responsible for destroying his life and his career.

In his fury, he aims his gun at Shin-jae and Hyeon-jin, but Ra-yeong enters from behind and hits him on the head with a rod to prevent him from firing the gun and killing the two women. The plan fails as Park Jae-yeol dies on the spot, with a flood of blood coming out of his head as he realises what has happened. Ra-yeong, trying to save him, attempts CPR and is arrested instead, marking a major shift in the story.
What happened to Yoon Ra-yeong’s case?
However, after the death of Park, Ra-yeong is dragged into custody, charged, and the courtroom drama ensues into a complicated tangle. The prosecutors are eager to ensure that the killing was not a case of self-defence but of revenge, as they claim there was a long-standing motive related to a sexual assault case several years ago. The case becomes even more complicated as the judge, who was a celebrity in the Connect case, intervenes, ensuring a biased outcome against Ra-yeong.

Ra-yeong’s case does not go well at first because the witnesses at the house did not actually witness the scene of Park falling. However, in episode 11 of Honour, all of this changes as the secret footage of the case is finally aired in court. In this case, it becomes clear what actually went down: Park was threatening Shin-jae and Hyeon-jin with a gun, Ra-yeong intervened, and Ra-yeong attempted to save Park afterwards. In this case, Ra-yeong was clearly acting in self-defence, not revenge, as the evidence clearly shows. In conclusion, Ra-yeong is found not guilty of the crime as the court rules that she acted in self-defence.
Who was the mastermind behind the Connect In app?
The real mastermind behind the Connect In app was Baek Tae-ju, the powerful tech industry CEO. Although the app was designed to look like a backdoor prostitution ring used by the rich and powerful, the real motive behind the app was far more complex. Baek Tae-ju designed the system to catch corrupt elites and expose them for their crimes.

Tae-ju’s motive for the Connect In app was rooted in a tragic event involving his younger sister, actress So Ji-won. So Ji-won was victimised by the powerful elites around her. However, when she fought back through the justice system, she was ignored, and the criminals slipped away unpunished. So Ji-won was so disillusioned by the justice system that she took her own life in a psychiatric hospital. Baek Tae-ju was so distraught by the death of his sister that he vowed to take down the corrupt system that protected the criminals who victimised her. He used the app as a tool to catch the criminals, even if it meant harming innocents in the process.
Why was Han Min-seo following Baek Tae-ju’s orders?
Han Min-seo’s involvement in the scheme is deeply personal. Min-seo is Ra-yeong’s daughter, a child born out of the assault Ra-yeong faced from Park Jae-yeol twenty years ago. Ra-yeong chose to give her up for adoption in the hopes of sparing her from the reality she would be forced to endure because of her mother’s assault. However, Min-seo would grow up to be abused by her circumstances, and her true relationship with Ra-yeong would be revealed.

Baek Tae-ju would seek out Han Min-seo and reveal her true relationship with Ra-yeong and Park Jae-yeol. In doing so, he would manipulate her anger at her circumstances and make her believe she should seek vengeance on those who disrupted her life. Believing vengeance would bring her the peace she had always sought, Han Min-seo would be willing to help Baek Tae-ju in his scheme against the elite by spying on them, manipulating her circumstances, and engaging in dangerous missions related to Connect In.

What happened to Baek Tae-ju at the end of Honour?
Baek Tae-ju’s downfall begins when the three women are at last able to stack up enough proof to blow the whistle on Tae-ju’s crimes during a high-stakes show-and-tell on the Smart City project he’s been working on. In Honour episode 12, with the presence of authorities and reporters, Ra-yeong and Hyeon-jin bare the truth about the Connect app, playing recordings in which Tae-ju confessed his involvement in its creation. At the very same time, Shin-jae’s hacking operation also comes up with more evidence of Tae-ju’s involvement in the entire scheme.
Realising the jig is up, Tae-ju flees before the authorities can close in on him. Before he does so, he erases most of the digital evidence connecting him and his company. It makes it much more difficult for the authorities to track him down. Later on, the authorities, thinking Tae-ju is probably dead, ask Shin-jae to help identify several corpses, but none are Tae-ju. By the end of Honour, the drama suggest on the possibility of Tae-ju’s survival when fresh flowers are found on his sister’s grave.

Did Hwang Hyeon-jin and Detective Koo end up getting divorced?
Hyeon-jin and Koo Seon-gyu’s marriage is put to the test by the secrets and perils that come with their latest case. There is a segment in the story wherein their relationship is so strained that divorce is not only possible, it is inevitable. But things take a turn after the trauma inflicted by the Connect case, especially after Hyeon-jin’s loss of the baby in a miscarriage.
Then, things change in the final showdown with Baek Tae-ju, wherein Shin-jae is trapped in a room with no oxygen, and Koo Seon-gyu risks his life to save her, getting trapped in the process. In this moment, the couple realises that, despite everything, they still care for each other, maybe even more than they are willing to admit.

In the ending of Honour, we see that Koo Seon-gyu survives, returns home from the hospital, and pulls out the divorce papers that he had gotten earlier, planning to go ahead with their earlier plan to divorce. But instead, things take a turn for the better, wherein both realise that what they have gone through has only made them realise how important their relationship is to them, and so they do not go ahead with the divorce.
How did the Kdrama Honour end?
By the finale of Honour, the three women have finally found their own form of closure, even if life is not spotless. Ra-yeong wins her court case and is reunited with her daughter, Min-seo. However, the chemistry between the two is still messy. Min-seo turns herself in and agrees to testify about the Connect network. Ra-yeong visits her regularly in prison, hoping that with time, she can fix the bond she never had with her daughter.
Meanwhile, Hyeon-jin and Ra-yeong start the law firm L&J to continue the fight for the victims who have been betrayed by the Connect network. However, the powerful men involved in the Connect network receive very light sentences. Despite this, the two lawyers continue their relentless fight for justice and law reform. Shin-jae takes a different approach by taking charge of Haeil Law Firm and trying to reform it from the inside out. In the final scene, a victim walks into the law firm seeking help, reminding the three women that their fight for justice is far from over.

Will there be a Season 2 of Honour?
As the drama has just ended, there are no official announcements of a second season of Honour. However, there is a hint of possibilities in the finale, which leaves room for a continuation of sorts in case of a sequel. Even after the downfall of the Connect network, new elite groups are forming their own secret groups, which could lead to another exploitation ring in the future.
There is also the case of Baek Tae-ju’s mysterious disappearance and the legal battles that these women are fighting, so there is room for continuation in the case of Honour season 2, which could explore these new dangers and continue to follow these lawyers as they move forward in their fight against corruption.
