All action in Episode 2 starts immediately with Ryong, Eve, and Santiago finishing the thrilling docking maneuver at the space station. The arrival of the crew brings out the complexity of maneuvering in micro gravity environment or zero gravity environment and create the initial dynamics of the station.
A single, seemingly innocuous, tub of vanilla ice cream that Ryong takes to be his “housewarming” present introduces a sub-plot that adds a lot to the movie. The ice cream is actually containing eggs for a hidden fertility program connecting Ryong to an underground operation arranged by Jae-ryong back on Earth. However, when Adam see this as a chance to teach Eve a lesson and she chooses one for herself, the plan becomes an issue when Ryong messes up and cannot restore the ice cream discreetly.
This compounds the story because, in addition to being a floating laboratory, the space station has more overt scientific missions such as fertility studies. Returning to reality, Jae-ryong’s dreams of space-based solutions to infertility are personal, and Masaru exposes the moral cerc anyhow the experiments which are performed.
At the same time, comedy and anarchy come to space stomping ground of the intergalactic train station when Eve develops an interest in the reproductive life of fruit flies that were taken to the station for research. This slows the pace of the mission and lightens the mood of the episode after biking space and dodging bombs.

More dramatic appeal is created when the crew of the ship consults on what to do with an aggressive mouse which was put to various experiments. One of the climactic scenes occurs as Ryong and Eve struggle to save a captured mouse, which would surely make Ryong a part of the crew’s team. It also opens the possibility for a budding relationship between Ryong and Eve for that romantic bit of the film.
At the end of the episode the viewer is surrounded by the evident fact that Ryong is not able to stay aside from the relations onboard, developing secrets even if the mission is ethical.

This episode continues to explore the unique premise of When The Stars Gossip, mixing romantic tension, scientific intrigue, and comedic undertones. The romantic interest between two of the main characters, and the chemistry between Ryong and Eve help to add more tension, while the comedic elements help give the show a fun feel. On that note though, there are traces of comedy this even lengthened concentration of the flies seems a little unnecessary.
The narrative also explores ideas of success and morality especially in the matter of the fertility experiments by Jae-ryong. These more than slightly shady reasons make the story genuine – and not just a ‘nice love story that happens to take place in a brothel’.
Still, some features make the show unique, the setting of which is a space station. The combination of the earthly corporate conflict and the station’s isolation effectively leaves the show different from other K-dramas. It here can be seen that though the characters are mainly built around archetypes, there exists the prospect for the next episodes to deliver further character growth.
Indeed, even at its slowest, Episode 2 of When The Stars Gossip is enough interesting and charming to warrant the viewers’ attention. Due to its goal of telling compelling stories and presenting an untested concept, the show remains to blaze its trail, which gives an indication that there is great anticipation to come.
