Netflix has finally released the latest K-drama, When the Stars Gossip Episode 1, and it promises to be the most interesting romance, drama, and sci-fi mix set in space exploration. Directed by Park Shin-woo, 별들에게 물어봐 stars Lee Min-ho, Gong Hyo-jin, Oh Jung-se, Han Ji-eun, Kim Joo-heon, among others. The episode starts on the 25 th of October 2024 waking up call was made at the Baikonur Cosmodrome located in Kazakhstan. The G.O.-10 shuttle is about to be launched and the mission consists of three people – the state – assured commanding officer, Eve, and the space tourist, Gong Ryong who constantly panics. We also notice a positive vibe teamed with apprehension in the team as the countdown starts. Gong Ryong though complains of the nerves that comes with being in space for the first time.
Gong Ryong, an OB-GYN from MZ Medical Centre is also on the mission as a civilian scientist; his hospital paid a significant amount for him to go. In fact, although he pays for the seat as a ‘space tourist,’ his mission is to carry biological samples that will help solve various human health problems, such as dementia. However, his clumsy attitude anticipates various humorous scenes in this otherwise serious story.
When shuttle lands perfectly, Gong Ryong recalls his story full of rivalry and jostling. He grew up with peculiar aunts who taught him the essence of life and after a poor background, he happens to be a star student as well as health care provider of pregnant women. But he met misfortune in his career after an accident with Choi Go-eun, the chairman’s daughter of MZ Group. Gong Ryong operation failure led to Go-eun losing her child, hence he had to be fired by the Chairman Choi and was blacklisted in the medical world.
Making the situation worse is Gong Ryong’s Check it estrangement with Go-eun. Their marriage, which goes back to Go-eun’s proud defiance of her father, has no vengeance, guilt, and even unclear purpose. interns of the lovers, Go-eun looks like she failed to make up her mind whether to love So-won or not, while Gong Ryong still cannot tell whether he is motivated by hatred or love.
Returning to the G.O. – 10, the crew experiences their first large scenario when a cryogenically frozen astronaut’s body plows into the station. This chilling development throws the team into confusion but the Commander Eve manages to calm the situation very well. Despite this Gong Ryong again ends up in an uncomfortable situation as he gulps down debris and when Eve tries to rescue him she sprains her toe.

At the end of the episode several different directions for tension are set up. It will not be long before we see some romantic entanglements as Eve and Gong Ryong have a subtle chemistry in their scene as a bitter-sweet romanticism between the two becomes more apparent moving forward; Go-eun also has a past in the form of Kang Kang-su who still harbors feelings for her and still has business dealings with Choi Jae-yeol. On the other hand, one of the most promising romantic interests of the series: the developing relationship of Eve and a mission control officer, simply raises the stakes of the story’s developing drama.

When the Stars Gossip Episode 1 Review
When The Stars Gossip begin with the first part of the drama series joyously it blends both the science fiction and the dramatic realistic themes of the show. To lighten the tone it makes for a nice touch to have a highly serious concept like space exploration alongside complex arcs for the characters. Thanks to Gong Ryong’s unpolished endearing awkwardness, and contrastingly imposing and in-command Eve, the on-screen relationship seems attainable yet glamorous.
The relative focus that is most salient in Episode 1 is that of relations. That Gong Ryong is in an abusive marriage to Go-eun, has a contentious relationship with Chairman Choi, and seems to be converging with Eve in an office setting gives the drama a lot of appeal. All the relationships are complex, full of tension, unresolved feelings and trust issues, giving the stakes on the personal level as much conflict as does the conflict of the plot.
The episode’s feel is eclectic, the humour in Gong Ryong’s experience of funny accidents such as floating around the ISS, followed by the serious and dramatic flashbacks and intense space drama. Adding a frozen corpse as its main clue brings a mystery that ensures the fans will make guesses in the subsequent episodes.
When the Stars Gossip starts with the promise of delivering humour, drama, suspense, and the extravagant world of the stars and space, a complex cast and a thrilling storyline are the elements any K-drama fan would appreciate which makes this one of the most recommended shows of the moment.
