Assuming the identity of her younger sister, Keum-bo enters Hanmin Investment & Securities as a junior intern. She then checks into a dorm for single women employees. There, she meets three women, Bok-hee, No-ra, and Mi-sook, who eventually become her closest friends. As she attempts to go undercover as a naive intern, she secretly works to uncover the details of the criminal activity, particularly a supposed ledger of a slush fund that could expose the powerful company chairman involved in the criminal activity. At the same time, she has to contend with company politics, particularly the return of her ex-boyfriend Shin Jung-woo, now a high-ranking official at Hanmin Investment & Securities.

As Keum-bo delves deeper into the case, she gets caught up in a web of insider trading schemes, company communications, and attempts to silence whistleblowers. At the same time, the relationships between the four women roommates provide Keum-bo with much-needed support as they face various issues, including workplace discrimination and the harsh realities of corporate life. As tensions within Hanmin Investment & Securities rise, Keum-bo’s undercover operation gets closer to uncovering the truth, but also gets her deeper into danger.

Undercover Miss Hong Ending Explained

Was Keum-Bo able to get the maximum share of Hanmin?

Keum-bo’s long-term plan was simple: to gain power at Hanmin Securities by acquiring shares of the company and winning over supporters among Hanmin’s other shareholders. The Yeouido Pirates continued to move stealthily, winning over supporters who believed in their cause of uncovering Hanmin’s corruption. The turning point in this struggle came when Kang No-ra, who had appeared to be loyal to her grandfather, Chairman Pil-beom, secretly decided to side with Keum-bo. At a press conference, No-ra announced her support for the Yeouido Pirates, stating her intention to transfer her shares of Hanmin Securities to the Pirates. This was a big boost for Keum-bo’s side, as it weakened Pil-beom’s hold on Hanmin.

However, another boost came when No-ra’s mother, Choi In-ja, joined her side. Learning of Song Ju-ran’s involvement in her daughter’s earlier kidnapping, as well as Pil-beom’s protection of Ju-ran, led to her loss of faith in Pil-beom. Deciding to side with Keum-bo, she turned over her shares of Hanmin Securities to the Yeouido Pirates. No-ra’s increasing shares of Hanmin Securities, in addition to those of her mother, gave the Pirates greater power among Hanmin’s shareholders.

Though Keum-bo’s side was not yet in possession of a voting majority, it was enough to keep her in the running, as her side continued to challenge Pil-beom’s leadership. Once Pil-beom’s corruption was exposed, he was removed as chairman of Hanmin Securities. Even though Keum-bo was not in possession of the most shares of Hanmin Securities, her plan of winning over supporters among Hanmin’s other shareholders was enough to bring down Pil-beom’s hold on Hanmin.

Were the Yeouido Pirates able to defeat Pil-beom?

Finally, the Yeouido Pirates succeeded in ousting Chairman Kang Pil-beom, but not in a straightforward manner. The initial move was to oust him at an emergency shareholder meeting, mobilising former staff members and small investors to vote him off. However, they were unable to obtain a majority, and Pil-beom held on for a little while. Nevertheless, this meeting was disastrous for Pil-beom, as he realised that no one trusted him anymore.

However, the decisive blow was when the slush fund scandal erupted. At court, Bang Jin-mok appeared as a surprise witness, stating that he had maintained multiple ledgers of all the financial wrongdoings of the chairman. The ledgers proved the existence of the slush fund, as well as Pil-beom’s connection to it. At the same time, other criminal investigations were opened, including the murder of employee Kim I-gyeong, as well as the gang violence led by Bong Dal-su.

In the ending of Undercover Miss Hong, Pil-beom was being cornered, and he planned to flee the country with money and fake identification. Nevertheless, he was unsuccessful, as Choi In-ja, who appeared to be helping him, was secretly working with the police. Instead of helping Pil-beom, she turned him in to the police, who arrested him. The evidence of his wrongdoings, as well as his unsuccessful attempt at fleeing, led to his conviction, ousting him from Hanmin, thereby giving The Yeouido Pirates their final victory.

What happens to Song Ju-ran in the end of Undercover Miss Hong?

Song Ju-ran has mostly been portrayed in the series as Chairman Pil-beom’s most loyal ally in the management of the company’s illicit business dealings and the guarding of the slush fund scam. However, in Undercover Miss Hong episode 16, when things began to go awry and the law closed in on the company, Ju-ran tried to save herself. She attempted to escape the country with the money from the secret funds. She hoped that she would escape the law before she was caught.

However, things didn’t go as Ju-ran had planned. She encountered Bong Dal-su, the gangster she used to work with in the past, and was returned to Chairman Pil-beom. Chairman Pil-beom had been keeping a close eye on Ju-ran because he suspected that she might betray him. Instead of helping Ju-ran escape, Chairman Pil-beom locked Ju-ran away so that she wouldn’t reveal the truth about the slush fund scam and other crimes she and the company had committed. Ju-ran suddenly found herself abandoned by the man she had served for decades.

Keum-bo soon discovered that Ju-ran was locked away and decided to rescue her. Although Ju-ran has committed many crimes in the series, she deserved to face the law and be punished within the legal system. She didn’t deserve to die. After Ju-ran was rescued, she was hospitalised and eventually arrested for covering the murder of the company employee Kim I-gyeong and the Hanmin Securities corruption scandal.

Was Bok-hee able to get out of prison?

Yes, Bok-hee was able to get out of jail in the end of Undercover Miss Hong, although her arrest was part of an intricate plot concocted by the enemies of the Yeouido Pirates. As mentioned in the story earlier on, Song Ju-ran set Bok-hee up by making sure she was accused of financial crimes in her previous places of work. Embezzlement and theft were used as weapons against Keum-bo’s team in an attempt to instil fear in the Pirates.

Although Bok-hee was arrested, she did not panic because she and her team had anticipated that she would end up in jail. She even encouraged her friends to hire the best lawyer available. Bok-hee spent time in jail as she waited for the court proceedings to end. She did not let the experience get her down. Instead, she quickly adapted to her environment in jail. She used her financial knowledge to help the inmates manage their money.

Eventually, Bok-hee completed her jail time and came out stronger. She opened her own investigation service after she got out of jail. Her new service specialises in helping women find hidden assets or financial secrets that their husbands might be keeping before getting divorced.

What happens to Albert? Did Keum-bo and Jeong-woo end up together?

Albert’s storyline ends sweetly and introspectively rather than plot-twistily. After the wild ride of the Hanmin case, Albert has a heart-to-heart with Keum-bo. They discuss the rough road they’ve travelled together and the bond they’ve formed from working the case together. Though Albert is clearly fond of Keum-bo, the series does not make any moves for a romance between them.

Instead, Albert moves on with his life by reconciling with his dad and beginning work on a script for a movie. His goodbye with Keum-bo is sweet and mature, and again emphasises the fact that the relationship between these two characters was not just for the sake of the plot.

As for the romance between Keum-bo and Shin Jeong-woo, the series again passes over the option for a romance and instead has him go to the United States in hopes of atoning for his past by helping the Yeouido Pirates. Before leaving, however, the two share a touching and emotional handshake and goodbye.

How does the show end? Will there be a Season 2 of Undercover Miss Hong?

Once the dust settles after Hanmin’s corruption scandal and Pil-beom gets kicked out of the company, a new chapter begins for the company. Cha Jung-il gets chosen to be the new leader because he’s the least involved in the illicit activities that got the company into a mess. The Yeouido Pirates disband after completing their mission, and each of them begins a new chapter of their life.

The story jumps forward to show what each of the characters has been up to. Bok-hee has opened her own investigative service, Mi-sook has risen to the position of assistant manager at Hanmin and uses her voice to fight for justice in the workplace, and No-ra pursues her passion for pastry after going abroad. The girls reunite for a special occasion to revisit their old room in Room 301 and reminisce about the good times they shared while they were fighting corruption.

Finally, Keum-bo gets a new undercover gig for a series of suspicious deaths connected to an insurance company. She takes on a new identity and gets a new job, ready to take on a new case. The final scene shows that Keum-bo’s life as an undercover investigator may not be over after all. While the series leaves room for a continuation and hints at a potential new mission, as of now, there has been no official confirmation from Netflix or the tvN production team about Undercover Miss Hong season 2.
