Why Did Tae-seo and Mo Eun-a Break Up for the Second Time?

In the second break-up, it was not any mistake committed by either of them that caused the breakup. Rather, what was responsible for it was the result of mental tiredness and bad timing. In the story, at this particular time, Tae-seo is already under great stress brought about by different aspects, including the health problem faced by his grandmother, how vulnerable his little brother is and his desire to protect his family.

In the middle of all the struggles he is going through, he finds comfort in Eun-a. However, upon arriving at the guesthouse, he witnesses an image that makes him think Eun-a was having an intimate affair with Seong-chan. This was not only an erroneous assumption but an event that greatly upset him since he was already feeling threatened by Seong-chan’s existence in Eun-a’s life.

Rather than facing up to his problems, Tae-seo avoids confronting the issue. It is too much weight for him to bear at one time. All these responsibilities weigh heavily on Tae-seo, leaving him with no choice other than to run away from reality. Later, when Eun-a attempts to contact him, he decides to break off their relationship via a phone call. This doesn’t mean that there is a lack of love, but he simply does not have the courage anymore.

As for Eun-a, the heartbreak is no less terrible. She follows him and tries to give an explanation, but she arrives too late, both literally and emotionally. The relationship between them is very strong, but it is their surroundings which prevent them from overcoming the problem at that time. It is thus seen that love does not always work when people feel that everything weighs on them.

What Does the Ending of Still Shining Truly Signify?

The ending of Still Shining is rather about acceptance than about closure. This implies that some love stories can never end the way one hopes to, which is happily ever after, but still, their love remains intact regardless of the physical distance between the two characters. The story of Tae-seo and Eun-a proves the fact that timing is extremely important for love stories.

In other words, their final parting ways does not signify a failed relationship, but rather an essential stage in the process of their individual maturation. Indeed, both of them have selected routes that can lead them to self-healing and improvement as human beings. Tae-seo finds a way to reconcile his love with the need for personal maturity, whereas Eun-a discovers the courage to confront her feelings and grow into a stronger woman.
