The Korean drama No Tail to Tell centres on Eun-ho, a nine-tailed fox who had once harboured the dream of becoming human but gave up on the idea following the tragic fate of another gumiho who had opted for love instead of immortality. Eun-ho makes a living by fulfilling wishes but keeping the balance of her spiritual power intact. She meets Kang Si-yeol, a talented but disadvantaged football player who is fighting against corruption in the sports world. How Did Eun-ho Save Si-yeol?
Si-yeol’s stabbing is portrayed as the sharp edge of Lee Yoon’s increasing desperation and jealousy. By now, Yoon is aware that Eun-ho has turned human, losing her fox powers and rendering her defenceless. Moreover, the fall of Jang Do-cheol’s kingdom has made him unstable, and witnessing Do-cheol’s downfall because of missing the fox bead makes him paranoid. He believes that if he does not take control of Eun-ho first, she and everyone around her will move away from him.
Driven by fear and jealousy, Yoon seeks revenge in the most human way possible, with guns. One night, when Si-yeol is out purchasing food, Yoon shows up at Eun-ho’s doorstep, guns blazing and determined to kill her. He faces Eun-ho and declares that he will not end up like Do-cheol. However, just as he is about to shoot Eun-ho, Si-yeol shows up. A fight ensues when two men face off against each other, and during the struggle, Yoon accidentally shoots Si-yeol in the stomach while trying to protect Eun-ho. Yoon is immediately filled with fear when he hears the gunshot and runs away, leaving Si-yeol badly injured.
Si-yeol’s condition worsens to a point where it is considered critical. While at the hospital, Eun-ho is told by doctors that Si-yeol will probably not make it through the night. Faced with the possibility of losing the man she loves, Eun-ho is reminded of Lord Pagun’s warning that she will be given a moment when she must make a choice between her own life and being with Si-yeol. Eun-ho understands that if she were to save Si-yeol, she would be paying an irreversible price. She makes her decision.
Eun-ho takes Woo-seok to a location she has seen before in her visions. There, she asks Woo-seok to stab her with a sacred knife that is linked to the Sajin ritual. By stabbing her, Woo-seok will be undoing Eun-ho’s supernatural meddling with human affairs and erasing her memory from them. Eun-ho dies so that she might give her life for Si-yeol’s.
In a moment that seems larger than the body itself, she catches a glimpse of Si-yeol, telling him that she’s grateful she was able to save him. She nudges him toward a life that can still be bright, happy, even if she’s not there to share it with him. Then she disappears from view. Her act succeeds, as Si-yeol does recover from his illness. At first, his life is predicted to be short, but for some unknown reason, his health miraculously reverses.
However, a truth is lurking: Geum-ho had been holding onto fox beads, which he uses to bring Si-yeol back to life in full form. Eun-ho’s death, as well as Geum-ho’s behind-the-scenes intervention, ensures that Si-yeol doesn’t just survive his illness but also lives a long life.
What Happened to Jang Do-cheol at the End of No Tail to Tell?
Jang Do-cheol’s craving for power ultimately leads to his downfall. Weakened in spirit, he tries to tear Geum-ho apart by separating her soul from her body, making her into a puppet, so he could eat the fox bead and gain immortality. His hatred for gods and spirits stems from his belief that they ruined his family as soon as he chose not to continue being a shaman. With vengeance driving him, he believes he has attained power strong enough to conquer even the Heavens.
However, Jang Do-cheol’s plan is foiled by Eun-ho, who intervenes as he encounters the puppet Geum-ho. With the spirit of Geum-ho behind him, he uses the Sajin Ritual Blade to penetrate the puppet, freeing Geum-ho’s soul from Jang Do-cheol’s grasp. Jang Do-cheol’s plan backfires as he spits up blood, having lost power and immortality. Even the spirits he had eaten are against him. He does not gain god status, but he is haunted by the spirits he had attempted to command.
Although Eun-ho had died, only to be resurrected years later, in Episode 12 of No Tail to Tell, it is shown that Jang Do-cheol attempts again to hunt what he believes to be the weakened fox. Geum-ho, however, had grown into a nine-tailed fox. She defeats Jang Do-cheol completely. Jang Do-cheol’s demise is similar to how he had suffered earlier. His craving for power had been so overwhelming that he had forgotten to consider the cost of attaining immortality. Jang Do-cheol never attains immortality, but he is killed by the very power he had sought.
Does Lee Yoon Get Punished?
Yes, Lee Yoon does have to pay for his actions, but it is not in the form of some sort of magical, supernatural revenge. After he shoots Si-yeol and goes into hiding, the consequences of his actions eventually catch up to him. Unlike Do-cheol, who is brought down by the supernatural, Yoon’s fall is completely human.
Eventually, it is made clear that Yoon is in prison for his crimes. This is because he is brought down by his own actions, his crimes, his manipulation of the football club, and his violent behaviour. Again, no supernatural intervention is needed to bring Yoon down. This is to show that, even in the face of the supernatural, human law is not so easily avoided.

What Happened to Woo-seok?
Woo-seok undergoes one of the show’s more grounded character developments. Initially, his life becomes complicated by supernatural fate, swapping with Si-yeol, depending on good fortune that wasn’t really his own. However, he eventually separates himself from that reality.
In No Tail to Tell Episode 12, after the time skip, it is made apparent that Woo-seok has retired from football. Rather than living off of fame, he has chosen to live an alternate life and has opened his own restaurant. He becomes a skilled chef and runs it successfully. He is now living a life of stability and independence, depending solely on his own efforts and not on good luck.
He still remains by Si-yeol’s side, even going so far as to offer advice to move forward with his life when Si-yeol expresses that he feels Eun-ho’s presence. Woo-seok’s ending is peaceful. He is no longer defined by his rivalry or supernatural intervention but by his own efforts and maturity.
Did Eun-ho and Si-yeol get Their Happy Ever After?
Yes, but their happiness comes only after ten long years of separation. After Eun-ho sacrifices herself to save Si-yeol, he survives and continues living, though he never truly forgets her. goes by slowly, with one year passing and then almost a decade later. In that time, Eun-ho comes back to the world of the living but hides from Si-yeol, who does not know she is around him.
Eun-ho and Si-yeol reunite when Si-yeol goes to a place that is somehow connected to them. Emotions run high, and Si-yeol is so aware of her presence that he almost falls from a rooftop. Eun-ho catches him just in time. Eun-ho wants to stay away from him because she believes that her immortality and Si-yeol’s mortality will make it so that they will be imbalanced. Si-yeol, however, will not be swayed. He makes it very clear that he does not care if he gets older and she does not; he just wants to be with her.
In the end of No Tail to Tell, Eun-ho and Si-yeol do end up with each other, despite time passing by. Eun-ho even imagines that she will be by Si-yeol’s grave when he dies, aged nearly a century. They go to a deserted island, where she imagines that she will make a castle and jokes about docks and boats as she walks along with him by her side.
