EXchange Season 4 Episode 3 Release Date and Preview: Will Ji-hyeon’s Growing Bond with Yoo-sik Rekindle Her Feelings or Cause New Jealousy?

The highly successful reality dating show is back for a new premise, surprising shifts of emotions, and a cast ready for a confrontational approach towards the past. Exchange Season 4 Episode 3 preview promises rising chemistry, shifting loyalties, and seeds of jealousy when the cast members experience their wobbly mix of memories and new emotions.

Last season, caused everyone to cry and gasp out of surprise, from the poignant confessions to the stunning finale that left viewers emotionally exhausted. What made it even more memorable was how some of the ex-couples, who decided to go their separate ways on the show, managed to find their way back to one another subsequently, showing that the experience of the show leaves a permanent imprint well beyond the television screen. Directed by Kim In-ha and hosted by Simon D, Lee Yong-jin, Yura, and Kim Ye-won, 환승연애 시즌4 continues to blur the boundaries between closure and rediscovery, posing the question of whether love can indeed begin anew in the very same place that it ended.

EXchange Season 4 Episode 1 Recap

The season opens with a strong refrain, “Ex or New, What Time Is Your Heart?” The background creates a metaphorical “time room” which a special clock splits into two halves: stripy and brown. The brown half is for the longing for a reunion, while the stripy half is for the longing for a new experience. Each competitor stands before the timepiece and rotates its hands, setting the “time of their heart.” The darker the brown, the more they want an ex; the more stripes, the more they want a new experience.

This routine not only establishes the mood for the incoming season but also subtly reveals each contestant’s direction emotionally, some still attached to their break-ups, others looking to get on with life. Transit Love Season 4 appears more contemplative than earlier seasons, implying members with deeper disputes and more complex break-ups.

Episode 1 of Transit Love Season 4 also catches our suave hosts up, with a special panel member, actor Nam Yoon-su, known for his drama Love in the Big City, joining the roundtable discussion. Nam’s commentary gives a varying perspective since he claims to be a fan of the show, interested in how contestants are perceived after a period of time.

Next is the aspect of emotional reunion, when a participant meets their ex inside the villa. While there are some reunions that are warm and hilarious, some are uncomfortable, or some are tearful, reflecting heartbreaks that have never been over. The show then exhibits the eight competitors living together under one roof: Sung Baek-hyun, Choi Yun-nyeong, Kim Woo-jin, Kwak Min-kyung, Hong Ji-yeon, Jung Won-kyu, Park Ji-hyeon, and Cho Yoo-sik.

When they arrive at the luxurious PyeongChang-dong house, the contestants are presented with a list of restrictions: they are not allowed to disclose whose ex they are until the final decision, are not allowed to date anyone outside of the villa, and are not allowed to exchange contact information or social networking sites. Not even when they find out someone else’s ex. They have to keep it a secret.

After a short house tour and roommate selection, the mood relaxes when they all meet for a dinner cookout. At dinner, a tiny yet noticeable spark emerges between Sung Baek-hyun and Kwak Min-kyung. He’s considerate, always looking for a way for her, indicating perhaps he already has a crush on her. But when the night calms down, EXchange tension emerges again when they get a letter titled “Introduction from Your Ex”.

The letters, read aloud one by one, immediately shift the tone. From heartfelt reflections to emotional confessions, each message captures the bittersweet essence of past relationships. Min-kyung’s ex describes her as a “rest area” in his life, someone who brought him peace and joy, wondering if he could ever love another woman the same way. Tears flow freely, especially from those who sense lingering affection, or its painful absence. Cho Yoo-sik, for instance, seems heartbroken as his ex’s letter suggests indifference, while his demeanour shows he still hasn’t moved on. The pilot deftly intercuts hope and tension, so the viewer is emotionally invested in discovering how all those mutually dependent emotions work out inside the house.

EXchange Season 4 Episode 2 Recap

Episode 2 of Transit Love Season 4 follows after the emotional introductions of the first round of date selections. Given the anonymous nature of the program, the women have to invite a man anonymously for a date without any other person recognising the decision.

Kwak Min-kyung chooses Sung Baek-hyun,

Park Ji-hyeon picks Cho Yoo-sik,

Hong Ji-yeon invites Jung Won-kyu, and

Choi Yun-nyeong selects Kim Woo-jin.

Non-overlapping couples ensure that there is quality individual time for both sets of couples, a new episode with new beginnings, yet with a subtle tension.

The show then takes a turn, when all the participants have to text anonymously the person whose heart skipped a beat for them during the day. This anonymity adds mystery, as well as emotionally charged suspense, when, unseen, connections are being made behind stiff upper lips, which the audience then sees.

Cho Yoo-sik gets a text, which reads, “You have helped a lot helping cook with me today. Thanks for lending a hand, see you tomorrow,” which is obviously from Park Ji-hyeon. While at it, Jung Won-kyu gets a text, “What do you want to do tomorrow?” from Hong Ji-yeon.

But there remains one final peak moment of feeling when the cast receives the rations, farewell package, and gifts sent from their erstwhile flames, laden with shared memories. The cast members can open them when they choose, allowing for silent, individual, tearful moments.

Sung Baek-hyun opens his first, finding the break-up note he had written for his ex, a bittersweet yet touching reminder of their sad ending. Hong Ji-yeon finds a hand cream she had given her ex for dry hands, returned, the small item sending her into fits of laughter. Kwak Min-kyung finds a love letter that she had written on their 1000th day anniversary, while Choi Yun-nyeong finds the couple of rings that she had given her ex. Some, like Kim Woo-jin, don’t open their gifts, aware they might find symbols too painful for them to handle.

The true nature of the emotional subtext is revealed at the conclusion of the episode. During a mysterious chatroom session at which the females dish out advice to other contestants, a surprising truth emerges: Kwak Min-kyung is Cho Yoo-sik’s ex-wife. This twist has the makings of a complete new wave of disruption based on emotion due to a tendency for blurring boundaries between comfort, curiosity, and jealousy at this juncture.

In the meantime, Kwak Min-kyung and Sung Baek-hyun enjoy photographing each other, appearing more relaxed, less tense. Nevertheless, insinuation of envy develops when Park Ji-hyeon comes home from her date and encounters Baek-hyun, who facetiously comments that she seems happy, which makes her acknowledge that she feels “a little thrilled.” The tension between newfound affection and unresolved history begins to percolate, leading the way towards the next instalment of angst.
