Gold Land Episode 5 Recap
Episode 5 of Gold Land begins on an ominous note, with Woogy watching as Chul-jung’s body is disposed of by expert cleaners. The show does not waste any time showing the audience how perilous things have gotten. The body is hacked to pieces and cleaned without leaving any trace, showing how much more vicious the people behind this gold scam are than Hee-ju thought.
At the pawnshop, there is an invisible tension between the characters due to the bloodbath committed there, as seen when Hee-ju cleans up. Woogy appears rather cool despite what is happening, and during his ramyeon meal provided by Hee-ju, he tells her that Chul-jung’s body has disappeared forever from that spot. The dialogue gets awkward with his easy way of talking about the murder while revealing himself as vulnerable and fearful at times.

As for the main people who are behind the coffin, they take action too. First, Gyu-seok tells Ho-cheol to look for the coffin and warns him not to do anything stupid. Second, Ho-cheol learns that a woman who knows something about the airport must be involved with the disappearance of the coffin, as Jin-man helps him with photographs. Finally, Do-kyung gets worried when Ho-cheol finds him in the hospital and blackmails him that he will kill his girlfriend if he does not tell him where the coffin is, but Do-kyung still does not disclose.
Gold Land kdrama ep 5 starts getting more and more hectic when Ye-jin finds out about Hee-ju. After discovering that the coffin had gold inside it, Ye-jin makes Hee-ju meet her at the bar and get all the answers. When Ye-jin is drinking and having a good time in the bar, Hee-ju cannot calm down because Woogy tells her that Ho-cheol is on his way to the place.

But things soon take an even uglier twist when they go back to the pawn shop. Ye-jin surprises Hee-ju with a taser, binds her, and learns from dashcam footage that the gold bars are stored in the mine. Despite her attempt to convince her to share the treasure, Ye-jin rejects Hee-ju and departs alone. Luckily for Hee-ju, Woogy learns everything via telephone conversation and comes to rescue her. Unfortunately, while they try catching up to Ye-jin, Ho-cheol manages to get there ahead of time. Following the revelation of what he sought, Ho-cheol kills Ye-jin and finds out that she was hiding two gold bars among her possessions.
Gold Land Episode 6 Recap
Gold Land Episode 6 starts with Hee-ju and Woogy going to the mines in search of the gold hidden there. As Hee-ju loses consciousness during part of the trip, Woogy has to search on his own and ends up discovering the treasure. When Hee-ju regains consciousness, however, things change drastically between them. She threatens to kill him with a gun and forces him to put the gold into the car.

Even though Woogy has been extremely helpful throughout the story, Hee-ju has come to realise that there is not really anybody whom she could trust fully. She even asks him to disappear from her life once he takes his share of the gold. However, Ho-cheol appears unexpectedly at the mines, and Woogy chooses to confront him with a gun. Unfortunately, this decision proves to be fatal for him.
At the same time, episode 6 of Gold Land gradually begins to demonstrate that all characters are actually fighting against each other. Do-kyung calls Hee-ju once again, and he offers to sell the gold abroad, showing much more concern about the money than about Ye-jin’s death. Hee-ju silently listens to his story about smuggling and the tests for the gold’s purity, but it is evident that this story deeply upsets her.

The episode also dedicates significant time to the developing mistrust between Hee-ju and Woogy. In the factory, Woogy tries to threaten Hee-ju with a gun, merely to see if he could ever sell out on her. Later, he tells her that the chairman related to the gold is due to come to Korea soon. On the other hand, Ho-cheol is also set to be punished by Gyu-seok since he concealed the gold bars. The struggle within their company is becoming increasingly hazardous and unstable.
Near the end of Gold Land kdrama ep 6, Hee-ju confesses that she trusts no one anymore, not even Do-kyung. She proposes dividing the gold and putting an end to everything because it is evident that Hee-ju cannot go on with all the treachery in her life anymore. However, later on, Woogy confronts her after overhearing what she was talking about with Do-kyung and cannot comprehend why she continues to trust him despite his many betrayals.

The last scene of this episode provides yet another nail-biting climax. Do-kyung buys a metal detector and goes about searching for the buried gold all by himself. But when he believes that he is alone, all of a sudden, the lights switch on. He turns around to see Hee-ju pointing her gun straight at him.
Gold Land Episode 5-6 Review
Episodes 5 and 6 of Gold Land appear weaker than the previous ones due to the fact that it seems like everybody is running after the same piece of gold, yet again and again being betrayed. There is plenty of suspense here, but it relies too much on greed and betrayal and therefore lacks something that could have been added based on the events in the previous weeks. Rather than developing the existing relationships, the show continues using the same scheme – putting Hee-ju in danger.

Still, what continues working for me is the character of Hee-ju herself. In fact, it is Park Bo-young who carries the drama emotionally, particularly during those instances when she realises that there is nobody among the people who surround her that she can fully trust. Episode 5 of Gold Land was good enough for me due to the fact that the protagonist continued fighting to survive, but still managed not to lose all human qualities while surrounded by criminals. Moreover, these episodes clearly show how emotionally tired she has already become.
Without a doubt, Woogy remains one of the most intriguing characters in Gold Land. It is quite difficult to determine if he is really loyal to Hee-ju or just pretends to be such in order to achieve his own goals. On the one hand, he risks everything for the sake of saving the heroine. On the other hand, he overhears her conversation or even puts an unloaded pistol to the test her loyalty. Thus, there is always something unpredictable about him, which makes their relationship interesting.

Another aspect where I feel the balance is lost in these episodes is pacing. Some scenes, like Ye-jin finding out about the mine or Ho-cheol fighting Woogy within the mine, were intense and thrilling to watch. But some of the scenes are boring, owing to the constant discussions that take place about how there is trust, betrayal, and the splitting of gold among the people. It was Do-kyung, in particular, who got on my nerves in these episodes. He still wanted to sell the gold abroad after the death of Ye-jin.
Kdrama Gold Land Episode 5-6 Review: Summing Up
Overall, the episodes still have suspense, strong performances and some effective cliffhangers. Regardless, it can certainly be said that the Gold Land episode 6 raises many questions regarding where Hee-ju’s decisions will take her, particularly after the chairman’s entrance into the situation and the trust between all characters starts to unravel.
