Glory Review: Directed by Karan Anshuman and Kanishk Varma, the Netflix series stars Divyenndu as Dev, Pulkit Samrat as Ravi, and Suvinder Vicky as Raghubir Singh, alongside Jannat Zubair Rahmani, Ashutosh Rana, Vishal Vashishtha, Sayani Gupta, Kashmira Pardeshi, Yashpal Sharma, Zakir Hussain and others. The show runs for 7 episodes, each close to an hour long.
Glory Review
Netflix series Glory starts off with an extremely violent scene, establishing its mood right away. A gifted boxer gets killed, and Raghubir Singh’s daughter, Gudiya, is brutally attacked. However, she survives, but ends up getting killed in the hospital for reasons unknown. The crime takes on more significance than it originally had as it brings Gudiya’s estranged brothers, Ravi and Dev, back to their native city of Shaktigarh.
Here, the story continues on both the revenge path and the investigative journey. Dev, who is more volatile, acts on pure rage and the desire to learn the truth regardless of what happens in the process. Meanwhile, Ravi finds himself dragged back into the world of boxing – an area that he had moved away from because of the difficult relationship with their father. In going further with their investigation, they find out that their sister’s attack is just one small part of a much bigger and far more sinister world of boxing.
What I like is the way Netflix’s Glory uses the mystery surrounding the past as a means of slowly peeling off layers from it. We get flashes of their childhoods, influenced by the rigid training regime that Raghubir imposes on them. Not only was he ambitious about making it to the Olympics, but it also cost him his family. The background information gives context to the ongoing conflict in the present, particularly in scenes when Dev clearly resents his father, whereas Ravi is caught in an internal struggle between hatred and respect for him.
There are many instances in the narrative that are noteworthy. For example, there are numerous occasions where Dev makes rash decisions that escalate into violent exchanges, and these exchanges serve to demonstrate just how corrupt the individuals are. There is one sequence in the film where a seemingly simple investigation ends up being a bloody fight, showing that the truth they seek is much more complicated and dangerous than they had ever imagined. Another example can be seen in the way that Ravi returns to the ring because it symbolises the internal conflict he faces in trying to regain control of his life.
But sometimes, the Glory series loses its grip on this idea. Along the way, several subplots begin appearing. They involve gangsters, competing coaches, corrupt officials, and journalists investigating the situation. While such elements serve to flesh out the story further, they sometimes become overdone. It almost feels as if everyone is after something. Although that can add an extra layer of intrigue, in some cases, these threads detract from the overall narrative and do not help build up the necessary suspense.
Regarding the performances in the movie, Divyenndu’s Dev holds the screen. As he plays an extremely broken, frustrated man, he delivers an extremely convincing performance. His character is quite emotional, and most of the drama on screen can be attributed to his character. While Pulkit Samrat delivers a good performance as Ravi, his character does not have enough substance as Dev.

The other major pillar in the show is Suvinder Vicky playing Raghubir Singh. He plays an obsessive father and a boxing coach driven mad by the vision of Olympic victory. This gives yet another dimension to the storyline since he, too, has certain aspirations and dreams that he is trying hard to fulfil. It is quite admirable for him to have such ambitions. But I do feel that perhaps there was more that could be done in order to portray his character’s emotional aspect better.
While the scenes of boxing should be one of the high points of the film, they come out somewhat hit-or-miss. Although Pulkit Samrat is obviously working hard physically, the scenes of him boxing fail to match the passion that would be expected of such an intense sport, particularly when it plays such a central role in the plot.
Another element that did not quite work for me was the use of some secondary characters. Although the characters played by Ashutosh Rana and Sayani Gupta add credibility to the story due to the actors’ professionalism, many supporting characters in the series appear either one-dimensional or just too weak. Some of the villains, in particular, look highly exaggerated and are out of tune with the rest of the narrative.
However, even with all these flaws, the Netflix Glory series succeeds in keeping you interested in it as a viewer. There are definitely some unexpected moments in the series that will surprise you, and some of them may even change your perception of everything you have already seen. The dark storyline and themes associated with moral ambiguity create a unique atmosphere that makes the whole experience more than predictable.
Netflix Glory Review: Summing Up
Ultimately, Glory is a show that works best when it focuses on the things that matter most – two brothers who need to deal with their grief, make peace with their past, and fight against each other in an environment driven by ambition and revenge. Although it is rather interesting, it has some weaknesses due to its unsteady rhythm and complicated plot. Even so, the series is not perfect and fails at some points, but it is still worth watching.
