The Girl From Nowhere: The Reset episode 1 starts off by showing a quiet student named Sky who is subjected to constant bullying by Jom and his group. What begins as bullying progresses into cruelty, culminating in a scene where Sky is physically assaulted and humiliated, meant to destroy his spirit. Yet despite Sky’s best attempts at avoiding trouble, the bullying continues to get worse. Jom steals Sky’s assignment and presents it as his own. The kicker is that it is full of sneaky little insults directed at the teacher. The situation escalates up the chain of command from teacher to principal, to Jom’s father, as a result of the teacher discovering these disrespectful notes in his child’s schoolwork. The punishment is severe, with his father striking his hand as punishment for his actions.

The following day, Jom is determined to seek revenge on Sky. Jom and his crew find Sky and demand that he choose between hurting Jom and hurting a dog. Sky does not cooperate and throws a metal ball at Jom. Right away, Jom and his friends pin Sky to the ground. Jom seeks revenge and breaks Sky’s hand in the same way that his father had broken his. The cruelty does not end there, as Jom and his crew chain Sky in a secluded area and torture him while recording the whole ordeal.

Desperate and crushed, Sky walks home and writes a letter to his parents, throwing in a suggestion that death could be his only way out if Nanno is not by his side. Just as Sky is about to hurt himself, Nanno walks into the room, but instead of trying to stop him, she remains calm and passes him a cutter with which he is able to free himself from the rope, and at the very same time, the unusual partnership begins with the two shaking hands.

The following day in class, everything seems out of place when a mean prank ends up on Jom’s chair, but things get even worse when Nanno arrives as the new transfer student. However, things get really weird when Jom’s injured hand starts transforming in an unusual manner, culminating in it turning into a toy hammer stuck to his arm. Jom ends up swinging it at Nanno but misses completely, with other curious students capturing the scene on camera.

Sky attempts to retaliate and get revenge on Jom but ends up stepping back, realising that she does not wish to become what she despises – a bully. By the end of Netflix’s Girl From Nowhere: The Reset episode 1, Sky thanks Nanno for his assistance, but also indicates that she has learned something from him, too. The scene is about to become a kiss, but Nanno vanishes, leaving Sky with a photo and possibly never seeing him again.

Girl From Nowhere The Reset Episode 1 Review

Episode 1 of Girl From Nowhere: The Reset is sure to hook you from the very beginning. There’s not a wasted moment as it exposes the harsh reality of Sky’s life, and the harsh, unrelenting nature of the bullying creates a dark, uncomfortable atmosphere. Some scenes are uncomfortable to watch, but they make for the kind of psychological thriller that Girl From Nowhere: The Reset is going to be. The tension builds up steadily, and once Nanno enters the scene, the episode comes alive.

What drew me to this story the most was the mystery of Nanno. Armstrong’s portrayal of the character has a calm, eerily quiet presence, being both kind and having a cool, observant gaze at the quirks of humans. Her quiet confidence and sly, teasing responses to the situations in the revenge scenes are quite captivating.

It also delves into Sky’s inner conflict. However, when the opportunity to strike back arises, he hesitates and chooses not to become the very bully he has been dealing with. This gives depth to the narrative, implying that later entries in the series might explore more complex themes.

Girl From Nowhere: The Reset Review: Summing Up

All in all, Episode 1 of Girl From Nowhere: The Reset Thai drama gives a good start, as it gets the tone and mystery just right from the start. The tone stays dark and tense, and the mystery hooks you from the start. It’s a little strange at times, but never boring, and I’m curious to see how Nanno’s story plays out in the rest of the series.
