The Terminal List Season 2 Ending Explained
Who Was the Mole in the CIA?
Jules Landry was the spy inside the CIA’s mission who covertly undermined the CIA’s operation against Amin al-Nawaz by assisting the terrorist network in carrying out their plan. At first, Landry seems like one of the officials involved in tracking down Mo Farooq and getting him back on board. Yet after the CIA’s black site in Morocco gets attacked immediately after the arrival of Reece there, Reece begins to suspect something fishy. The attack is even more alarming since some of the attackers were the guys Reece had trained in Iraq before.
The doubt that Reece has gets deeper when he meets Landry in Beirut. Landry claims that Mo has gone over to the opposite side and that it would be better to kill him than to try to redeem him. Reece doesn’t accept this explanation until he talks to Mo. When Reece finally manages to talk to his old colleague, he learns that Mo has been conducting himself secretly in al-Qaeda as per the instructions of Landry.
The other thing that he learns is that the bombing at the Moroccan facility is part of the operation controlled by Landry. He gives Reece a phone with the communications that show his innocence. This leads to a change in the way the investigation goes because it turns out that Mo is a CIA agent and not a betrayer.

The importance of the evidence gets magnified further with Landry going missing from headquarters and then being captured by Reece’s team. Under interrogation in Kurdistan, Landry first tries to resist cooperating but eventually gives up and divulges the fact that the conspiracy of Oliver Grey is related to a Russian ultranationalist called Colonel, whose ultimate aim is to undermine America. The other information that Landry provides is that the scheme had been set against him specifically, despite the fact that he does not know the motive behind it. Thus, in exposing Landry, the CIA has exposed not just a lone traitor but also a grand conspiracy in which Reece was entangled himself.
How Did Oliver Grey Manage to Escape?
Even as the investigation reveals more about the conspiracy against him, Oliver Grey manages to stay just out of reach of Reece. Grey does not merely carry out tasks as an operative; he is an enigmatic figure who works from the shadows to organise dangerous missions but stays in contact with influential individuals. He comes into focus through Raife Hastings’ investigation of the missing weapon shipments and his finding that the Kestrel program has somehow been resurrected to do much more than its original tasking.
Raife collaborates with an ex-Mossad officer, Tal Varon, in search of Grey in Athens. Tal succeeds in tracking down Grey and realises that Stavros, an exporter from that region who is involved in the arms deal, is also missing. Tragically, the investigation turns out to be fatal as the Colonel commands Grey to kill Stavros. By the time Raife reaches the site, he finds Stavros dead and Grey nowhere to be found.
At the same time, Reece captures Landry and realises that Grey’s plan was meant to be a personal one against him. In spite of all the above information, Grey manages to escape the authorities without being arrested in any way in the process of the events of the ending reference. In the end, the montage indicates that the Colonel is ready for yet another mission for Grey with the help of the mysterious message found on Grey’s phone.

Was Katie Buranek Able to Finish Her Book?
Katie Buranek indeed succeeds in completing her writing of the novel about James Reece, despite being subjected to great professional difficulties as well as an attempt on her life at one stage of the investigation. At the start of the season, Katie is having problems completing the manuscript while at the same time trying to justify her story to the public, who see James Reece as an extremely dangerous criminal. Her problems get even worse once the Russian billionaire Vasili Andrenov becomes the new owner of Voltstreem Media. Even though at first Vasili seems to want to collaborate with Katie and later on promotes her to Editor-in-Chief, Katie is suspicious of him.
The quest of Katie for the truth almost leads to her death. After acquiring some papers that were related to Kestrel from the legislative records, she is assaulted in a parking lot. Katie fights back, although they end up shooting her several times before Raife comes to save her. Raife and Harper treat her wounds, including one to her lung, without letting the perpetrators know that she is alive.
In spite of all this, she finally recuperates and goes back to her book. Towards the end of the film, it is seen that she has written the rest of the pages, and the book has a name: James Reece: Our True Believer. The book will help people to understand James, a man who has been criticised by much of the world without knowing his background.

There is a difference, however, between completing the novel and its publication. The last source clearly indicates the completion of the novel by Katie, but there is no evidence of the novel’s publication. This seems to be the next stage of development that Katie is supposed to undertake, as opposed to the previous one that has been accomplished within the season. Katie’s accomplishment is significant, however, due to the fact that despite nearly losing her life, she does not give up her quest to write the story of Reece.
How Did Vasili Andrenov Die?
The Russian billionaire, Vasili Andrenov, who takes control of Voltstreem Media, ends up being murdered by James Reece during the season’s most defining moment. In the whole storyline, Vasili appears as a business tycoon who wants peace and is interested in diplomacy, especially through the negotiations he has taken part in between Ukraine and Russia. At first glance, he seems to be an ideal partner in ensuring that stability prevails in the region. Nevertheless, the increasing connections that he has with Oliver Grey and the Colonel reveal that he has some ulterior motives. His control over the Voltstreem also means that Katie is in a tight spot.
The discovery of Vasili being involved in the greater conspiracy places him in a very important position regarding Reece’s quest. In the course of their confrontation, Vasili makes remarks related to Reece’s past which elicit a very personal response from him. Rather than just restraining him or taking him in to interrogate him, Reece kills Vasili by stabbing him in his heart with an axe. It was quite a significant move since he could have got a lot of information from Vasili regarding the conspiracy and the individuals behind it.

However, it shows that Reece is compromising himself with regard to getting additional information, even though it satisfies his anger in the process. The conclusion reference shows that the killing done cannot be regarded as just self-defence or execution by other soldiers. Instead, it is the personal choice of Reece after being hit where it really hurts.
Why Is the Colonel Targeting James Reece?
The Colonel is the elusive individual behind the larger plot, including Oliver Grey, Jules Landry, and the group who have plotted the terrorist attacks. From the testimony of Landry’s interrogation, Grey is working for a Russian ultra-nationalist who is connected with the Black Hundreds group that aims to revive the power of Russia and undermine that of America. The Colonel works from behind the scenes and uses intermediaries and operations without coming out openly. His plans are aimed at shifting weapons, assassinations, and a wider attack on America. The most dangerous thing about the whole situation for Reece is that, according to Landry’s interrogation, the whole plot by Grey was to attack him specifically.
When it comes to the personal aspect of the conspiracy, then the end reference becomes even more interesting in the sense that the Colonel’s group is related in some way to the family history of Reece. In particular, the reference reveals that Reece’s father has been killed by Thomas, who in turn was killed according to the orders of Oliver Grey, who worked for the Colonel. In other words, there is some connection between Reece’s family and people who were involved in the conspiracy, which made the threat towards him personal as well.

Nevertheless, at the same time, the reference does not give any information concerning the motives of the Colonel to attack Reece or the full history behind this matter. Nevertheless, it is quite evident that the Colonel knows much about the past of Reece and uses it to make him vulnerable. At the same time, the conspiracy is arranged in such a way that Reece would be brought into confrontation with the members of this conspiracy multiple times.
What Happens to James Reece at the End of The Terminal List Season 2?
By the end of The Terminal List Season 2, James Reece has survived one more perilous mission, uncovered the corruption in the CIA operation, and found out that the conspiracy in which he had been involved has deeper ramifications than the terrorist cell of Amin al-Nawaz. At the very beginning of the novel, the character is alone in the ocean with his brain tumour, his hallucinations, and the psychological repercussions of the loss of his family members.
Though offered a deal by the CIA to help locate Farooq and Amin in return for a pardon and treatment for his illness, the man does not have any grounds to believe the CIA. In the course of cooperating, he uncovers the plan of Mo, Landry, and the Colonel. Yet the murder of Vasili makes it clear that Reece cannot break out of the cycle of violence and rage in his life. The end of The Terminal List Season 2 series takes a much more reflective turn as Reece undergoes an MRI scan in order to check the status of the brain tumour.

While the series does not specify whether the tumour has been removed or whether it remains a danger, the conclusion of the season deals more with the change in attitude. In the beginning, Reece was motivated mostly by sorrow, desire for revenge and the fear that he would die without completing his mission.
However, at the end of the series, it seems that Reece has found new reasons for living through his dedication to his brothers-in-arms and to the people who gave him a reason to live through their sacrifice. Although he is not freed from his desire for vengeance, and killing Vasili proves it, he can be considered free from the motivation of death as his only drive. In addition, the actions of the Colonel and Grey remain unresolved, and thus the conflict itself is not over yet.
Will There Be The Terminal List Season 3?
The ending of The Terminal List Season 2 leaves several important storylines open, which means that a continuation is definitely possible within the context of this story. Oliver Grey gets away from his captors, the Colonel is still at large, and there is much about the conspiracy and its relationship to Reece’s past to be discovered. The latter becomes especially evident when we see a message on Grey’s phone saying that the Colonel has already made up his mind regarding the next target.
This means that there are still people who continue working for the same criminal organisation, and Reece will be forced to confront Grey again. At the same time, a number of questions remain open, including Reece’s brain tumour. But The Terminal List season 3 has neither been announced nor renewed yet. The cliffhanger is not to be taken as an indication that the next season will definitely come.

It just builds up the base for the next season where Grey and the Colonel can be viewed as big dangers, and the character development of Reece is ongoing. In the next season, it would be possible to discuss who the Colonel is, what kind of relationship he has with Reece’s father, the next step in Grey’s plan, and, at the same time, Reece’s health problem and inability to let go of revenge. For the moment, based on the above references, it can be concluded that the storyline allows for Season 3, but its production is still unconfirmed by the above resources.
