The Husband Episode 7-8 Review: Directed by Kim Jung-hyun, 결혼의 stars Namkoong Min as Kang Tae-ju, Lee Seol as Ko Se-yun, Kim Dae-myung as Noh Man-hee, Jang Gwang as Dr Ko Dong-chan, Lee Sang-hee as Kim Kyung-ae, alongside Oh Min-ae, Woo Ji-hyun, Ryu Yeon-seok, Lee Hyung-joo and others.
The Husband Episode 7 Recap
Episode 7 of The Husband starts when Kang Tae-ju and Ko Se-yun barely survive an intentional car crash caused by Noh Man-hee. The aggressive confrontation is immediately followed by another fierce fight between Man-hee and the two, as he tries to kill them. While in the middle of killing them, the police come and interrupt Man-hee’s actions, which makes him run away. In his escape, he kills an officer, which makes him even more of a dangerous criminal. Even though Se-yun continuously maintains that it was Tae-ju who saved her life, the police arrest him anyway.
In another place, Kim Kyung-ae is critically wounded in the hiding place of Man-hee. Understanding that the police are coming, she begs her husband to flee before their arrival. Alone in the room, she tries to delete all evidence from her mobile phone; but listening to the policemen approaching, she hides the phone under the fridge. Once the investigators enter the apartment, they find the bloody hammer and ask for an ambulance upon discovering the wounded Kyung-ae.
While Kyung-ae is transported to Woori Together Hospital, Man-hee follows the ambulance in secret but cannot approach due to security and police surrounding the hospital. At the hospital, Tae-ju conducts an examination of Kyung-ae and determines that surgery is the only way for her not to become paralysed. Ko Dong-chan refuses to let Tae-ju operate on Kyung-ae but interrogates Tae-ju instead about the ₩3 billion which disappeared. Calmly answering Ko Dong-chan’s questions, Tae-ju is interrupted by Se-yun, who insists that Tae-ju operate since Kyung-ae could reveal something about her kidnapping.
Even though the police still harbour doubts against Tae-ju, they let him continue with his business operations under strict observation. Prior to sedating her, Tae-ju accuses Kyung-ae of causing the pain that she and Man-hee have brought him through, showing how saving her life will not be an easy task for him. During the surgery, the previous manipulations done by Dr Ko temporarily cloud his judgement, and hesitation becomes visible in him as the situation gets worse for her. But his conscience wins, and Tae-ju saves her successfully.
Tae-ju is able to reveal all that concerns Suhyeong and his reasons for investigating the whole matter on his own since he lost all his confidence in the authorities during his questioning. On the other hand, the violent streak of Man-hee increases when he kills yet another innocent soul. In the hospital, Doctor Ha Jeong-soo tries to kill Kyung-ae by injecting her with potassium chloride. However, before he manages to do it, Tae-ju interrupts him and asks him if he is behind all the events that happen in the shadows, ending The Husband ep 7 kdrama on an eerie note.
The Husband Episode 8 Recap
The Husband Episode 8 starts with some flashbacks of how the connection between Tae-ju and Se-yun became associated with Dr Ko. In one of the meetings held by both families before the marriage, Dr Ko underestimates Tae-ju, while Se-yun holds Tae-ju proudly and admires him for what he can do. There are further flashbacks of how Tae-ju is successful in his career as a surgeon and how he has a beautiful time with Se-yun and Hayun.
The flashbacks eventually reveal the origins of Tae-ju’s growing suspicions regarding the hospital. Upon discovering some contradictions in the artificial bone of a patient and hearing the conversation concerning the secret research, he understands that something very unethical is going on. He finds out that in the course of his work, stem cells were replaced by tissues from aborted fetuses as a result of an experiment aimed at prolonging the lifespan of grownups. While Dr Ko believes that the research may benefit millions of people, Tae-ju refuses to cooperate and kill innocent children to satisfy his ambitions. Even when Dr Ko tries to involve Se-yun in this matter, Tae-ju does not change his mind.
Returning to our timeline now, Tae-ju starts piecing together the accusations made by Kyung-ae about Dr Ko before her operation and ties them up with all the information he learned. He understands that these allegations were completely correct and corresponded to the secret stem cell project he discovered some years ago. The matter becomes even more horrifying as certain information appears that the baby that was expected from Kyung-ae and Man-hee may have taken part in this experiment. Right after that, lawyer Choi Dae-hyeong comes to see Tae-ju in custody and tells him that his legal defence was organised by Se-yun herself. Due to her statement and lack of evidence, the arrest warrant is not accepted.
With the determination to find out everything, Tae-ju rushes back to the hospital and confronts Dr Ha when she spots another suspicious activity concerning Kyung-ae. It is revealed through flashback that Dr Ha used to treat Kyung-ae, thereby proving his connection with the conspiracy. Failing to handle Tae-ju’s questions, Dr Ha tells her that he was only following orders and runs away in a hurry.
At the same time, episode 8 of The Husband touches on the emotional aspect of Tae-ju’s story. After he has seen his mom and elder brother, he confesses that he initially wanted to file for divorce as he thought Se-yun needed to be happier than being with him. But now all he needs is to protect her from the rising threat.
In addition to that, Man-hee moves around as he manipulates the nurse from the hospital where Kyung-ae works, and the investigators have found the blood stains and Kyung-ae’s hidden phone in his basement. Then Tae-ju talks to Dr Ko about everything Kyung-ae confessed to him during the operation, and Dr Ko tells him that he should bring the evidence rather than accusations. While he chases Dr Ko around the hospital, Tae-ju finds out that Dr Ha is dead due to the potassium chloride injection.
The Husband Episode 7-8 Review
Korean drama The Husband Episodes 7 and 8 are a game changer for this show since the attention moves from searching for suspects to unravelling the truth behind what happened until now. What seemed to be a simple case of kidnapping eventually evolves into a dark plot involving the medical world, hence increasing the level of complexity of the mystery beyond my initial expectations. The most satisfying part about these two episodes is how they avoid presenting random twists to the viewers but only unravel clues left throughout the entire series.
The aspect of the drama that impressed me the most is how the distinction between justice and revenge gets blurry all the time. Tae-ju faces many hard choices, such as whether to help the one who made him suffer or which person he can trust. In the case of the operating room scene, there is no need to look for anything else to see what he is going through internally. With Kyung-ae’s confession just before the operation, the story suddenly moves to a different course.
In Disney+ The Husband Episode 8, the story is made even more compelling through flashbacks that make up for some gaps without resorting to unnecessary exposition. Instead of interfering with the pace of the series, these flashbacks shed light on why Tae-ju is suspicious of Dr Ko and why he had decided to stay away from the hospital many years ago. The conspiracy is also made much scarier since it is not just a possibility anymore but has begun to take form. Furthermore, the investigation progresses with each discovery, showing that each clue brings another big secret.
These episodes finish in such a way that the plot is at its strongest so far. Just as Tae-ju was about to reveal the truth, another important witness was killed off, showing us that there will always be someone who will remain one step ahead. This conclusion makes perfect sense considering the impression we get that the conspiracy runs far deeper than we think. As long as the drama builds up more on this, I can’t wait to see what happens in the rest of the episodes.
