Tastefully Yours Review: Penned by Jung Soo-yoon and Park Dhan-hee, directed this romantic comedy kdrama 당신의 맛, starring Kang Ha-neul as Han Beom-woo, an accomplished businessman with a secret past, and Go Min-si as Mo Yeon-joo, a fiery chef who runs the small restaurant Jungjae. Beom-woo, secretly pilfering trendy dishes from trendy restaurants and then running them into the ground, attempting to make his business Korea’s best. But when he meets Yeon-joo, everything changes. With strong support from Kim Shin-rok, Yoo Soo-bin, and Bae Na-ra, the drama mixes food, love, and self-improvement—but do they all taste good?

Tastefully Yours Review

Honestly speaking, Tastefully Yours Kdrama got me immediately. I was in the mood for a kitchen romance. A sneaky rich guy who pilfers recipes and closes up small restaurants behind people’s backs is light-years from your typical chaebol story. And when Beom-woo arrives on the scene for Yeon-joo, you can sense the sparks, ones splattered with soy sauce and ego, at least. Their chemistry, which is founded on clichéd opposites-attract feels, really paid off initially.

The initial episodes were a delight. Netflix’s Tastefully Yours served the characters well, and I was giggling away in the kitchen scenes. Yeon-joo’s passion for cooking was aptly showcased, and Beom-woo’s transition from being disdainful to modest provided some emotional depth. These early episodes were akin to food on a rainy afternoon—warm, vibrant, and full of promise.

But then things shifted, somewhere around episode five, things became confused. When Yeon-joo’s ex-boyfriend shows up, the entire story starts to lose its flavour. The love triangle was unnecessary and unnatural. Rather than having Yeon-joo be an independent and strong-willed woman, the story made her into a passive and dazed character. I simply did not like watching her get dragged into drama that seemed like it was for some other show.

The second half of Tastefully Yours on Netflix gets absurd. The office plot—with stolen recipes, fabricated scandals, and even fire—it crossed the line. It was hard to be serious when we’re having a warm food moment one minute and playing with fire and suits the next. The show had an issue with not knowing if it was going to be a light romantic comedy or a thriller.

And, also, the competition aspect, something which could have created tension, was introduced way too late and was handled not so well at all. They did it in a rush, and that sudden shift in all of their personalities—from arch-nemesis to pal-buddies —just did not fly with me. If they had spent more time on this plot, it might have been believable.

All things considered, Korean drama Tastefully Yours did have some strengths. The food scenes were the very best. All of the dishes were just gorgeous, and the love and care that went into cooking together genuinely touched this viewer’s heart. These scenes brought me back to what the drama was truly about—healing, growth, and relationships built through food. I loved to see all four members of Jungjae (Yeon-joo, Beom-woo, Chun-seung, and Jin Myeong-suk) come on screen. Their chemistry was real, and the spiky moments between them helped balance out the dark moments.

The only standout among the show’s better performers was Kang Ha-neul. He did the character development of Beom-woo justice. Even when the plot confused me, he kept me invested in the show. And Go Min-si did her absolute best with what she was given, even though her character wasn’t always so kindly dealt with. Yoo Soo-bin and Kim Shin-rok were also good. They had impeccable comic timing, and their scenes were much-needed palate cleansers.

But in all of that, I couldn’t help but notice the flaws. The narrative was unbalanced, and some episode translations were cumbersome. Main plot points were hurried along, and gratuitous drama hogging commandeered too much space. In general, Kdrama Tastefully Yours was a dish that began with the ingredients properly, but sprinkled too much hot pepper throughout.

Summing Up

K-drama Tastefully Yours, aka Dang-sin-eui Mat, was promising, particularly with its great cast and new food show concept. But the more it progressed through the show, the more it got scattered all over and lost exactly the same thing that made it so great at the beginning. If you’re in the mood for light drama with nice-looking visuals and food that leaves you hungry, you’ll enjoy the first half. But if you’re the kind of viewer who appreciates lean storytelling and character growth, the second half will disappoint. To me, it was an imbalanced experience, though stunning to begin with, perplexing towards the end.
