What Really Happened on the Yacht in Spooky in Love?
The truth behind the incident on the yacht emerges as Yeo-ri recovers her memory. Twelve years ago, she was on the yacht together with Ji-hwan and Min-hwan, and there was a fight between the two brothers. Ji-hwan came across a picture of Yeo-ri in Min-hwan’s wallet, and this made him angry, so he started quarrelling with Min-hwan. The situation worsened until they were on the yacht, and then suddenly the yacht collided with a rock. Ji-hwan fell into the water because he lost his balance due to the collision, and even though Min-hwan could have saved him since he held his hand, he let go of him from his hand.
This means that Ji-hwan did not die as a result of an accident because Min-hwan decided to let him fall. This is another reason why the yacht has been one of the most intriguing mysteries in the series. Yeo-ri recalled how Ji-hwan gave her the necklace before he went inside the cabin, but she couldn’t remember what had transpired after. Eventually, the necklace became the key that linked her with Ji-hwan and, ultimately, with Gang-uk, who unknowingly received Ji-hwan’s heart through the surgery. On his part, Min-hwan concealed the truth for twelve years and even kept the necklace. Seung-jae found out about the video from the yacht, which captured him and Ji-hwan in a heated argument.
How Did Seung-jae Die?
The reason for Seung-jae’s death was linked directly to the mystery of the death of Ji-hwan. After being freed from prison after his father Park Jin-dong’s funeral, Seung-jae came back home to discover a camcorder with the recordings of the party on a yacht twelve years ago. Looking at the recording, he noticed that there was something priceless inside – the fight between Min-hwan and Ji-hwan right before the latter dropped into the water. It became clear to him that this tape would ruin Min-hwan, and he decided to use it as blackmailing tool.
At last, Seung-jae approached Min-hwan and requested that he assist him in leaving the country, as he threatened to tell the truth behind Ji-hwan’s death to Hee-won. For Min-hwan, the threat proved to be fatal, as the video could prove that the death of Ji-hwan was not just an unfortunate incident but something much more than that. In the course of his encounter with Seung-jae, Min-hwan killed Seung-jae so that he would keep quiet.
However, what Min-hwan did not anticipate was that the whole scene was being recorded by a camera. Min-hwan took the camera and then lured Yeo-ri through Seung-jae’s mobile to the spot where she found Seung-jae lying dead. That is how Yeo-ri was found in possession of the murder weapon and was suspected of committing this crime, despite the fact that the circumstances that led to Seung-jae’s murder actually had much to do with Min-hwan’s efforts to keep his secret safe.
Did Yeo-ri Survive the Accident in Spooky in Love?
Yes, she does survive the incident that happens in the Spooky in Love finale; however, she remains in critical condition for quite some time and almost dies. She is immediately taken to the hospital after the incident, but Gang-uk himself passes out due to cardiac arrest caused by the shock he receives from seeing Yeo-ri’s accident. During this process, she falls unconscious in the spirit world, where she meets all the spirits that she has helped in her lifetime and ends up at the boat leading to the afterlife.
But Ji-hwan stops her from leaving and informs her that there is still a lot for her to live for. He tells her that all the people that she helped and the spirits that she guided are waiting for her to come back. Ji-hwan then decides to take the boat and allows Yeo-ri to go back to the living world to live a very long and happy life. It is thus that Yeo-ri awakens in the hospital. This is another significant turning point in her life since she now gets a chance to live and not be haunted by the past. By the end of the movie, she loses her supernatural ability and is able to touch people freely.
What Happened to Min-hwan in the End of Spooky in Love?
Min-hwan’s fall starts from the time Yeo-ri finds the last video recording of the yacht accident. As Ji-hwan’s funeral takes place, Min-hwan seems to be on the verge of taking over CL Group as the new chairman, and all seems to be going well in restoring his reputation. However, Yeo-ri suddenly shows up, playing the video in front of Hee-won and everyone else. It is revealed that Min-hwan held on to Ji-hwan at the time of his fall from the yacht, but then let go of him deliberately.
Min-hwan becomes enraged with Yeo-ri and tries to make sense of his actions by stating that all his life he had been discriminated against by his parents, since his parents always favoured Ji-hwan, who was not their biological child. But Yeo-ri does not take this as a reason for murder. In fact, his condition worsens with the arrival of Gang-uk, accompanied by the police. With the help of a copy of the yacht video from Seung-jae’s childhood place, Gang-uk can now conduct further investigations on Min-hwan.
Moreover, the CCTV footage retrieved from a search conducted in Min-hwan’s house becomes evidence against him, as it proves his involvement in Seung-jae’s murder. At the end of Spooky in Love Episode 12, he is arrested and jailed. Even after a year, he is still in jail, and it is then that Hee-won comes to visit him and asks him to apologise for his wrongdoings and says that after he completes his punishment, she is ready to accept him back.
What Happens to Ok Gye-hee and Her Family?
The downfall of Ok Gye-hee happens because of the other investigation regarding the financial corruption surrounding the Cheon Art Gallery and Reina Group. Even though the direct threat posed by Park Jin-dong to her seemed to have disappeared due to his death, the investigation into the slush fund goes on. The evidence given by Yeo-ri pushes the investigation further, and Associate Director Kim So-hee also decides to give her testimony against Gye-hee. In Spooky in Love Episode 12, Prosecutor Seo-hyeon comes to Gye-hee’s house with a warrant and starts searching for something as part of the investigation of financial crimes done by the gallery.
Also, Gye-hee’s kids must endure the repercussions of all that their family has ever been up to. After Gye-hee gets jailed, Ha-ri stops living the luxurious lifestyle that she was meant to live and begins again as a receptionist at the Reina Hotel. On the other hand, Dong-jun keeps a low profile while undergoing his probation period. Later, the siblings go to meet their mom at the jailhouse and receive an instruction from Gye-hee to respect Yeo-ri as the new Chairwoman of Reina. Ultimately, the family ends up losing the influence and status that they were trying to protect.
Do Cheon Yeo-ri and Ma Gang-uk Get Their Happy Ever After?
Yes. Despite all the factors that endanger their romance, Yeo-ri and Gang-uk end up having their happy ending after all the struggles they had in the Spooky in Love series. Their love story almost ends when Yeo-ri finds out about Gang-uk’s heart transplant and becomes scared of endangering his life if she is with him. In fact, she even ends their engagement on the basis that distancing herself from him is the best thing she can do to save him. However, things change at the end of the drama for her because Gang-uk realises that his heart donor is none other than Ji-hwan, whom Yeo-ri has always missed.
Now that Yeo-ri comes out of the incident alive, there will no longer be any obstacle in their path. Even Madam Paeng comes to terms with the idea of trying to tear them apart and apologises to Yeo-ri for trying to keep them apart, giving them her blessings in the process. Eventually, Gang-uk will be posted in Seoul while Yeo-ri succeeds Chairwoman Baek as the head of Reina. However, most importantly, Yeo-ri finally manages to cure herself of the supernatural problem and will no longer have to fear being touched by anyone else. In the ending of Spooky in Love, we see that Yeo-ri and Gang-uk can finally walk hand in hand.
How Does Spooky in Love End?
The end of Spooky in Love is marked by a one-year time jump when Yeo-ri is appointed as the Chairwoman of Reina because of the retirement of Baek Kyung-ja, and Gang-uk comes back to Seoul because of his transfer. Since her supernatural power has vanished now, Yeo-ri can touch other people freely without any fear anymore. The show ends with a very simple yet profound picture of Yeo-ri and Gang-uk walking together outside Seina Hall.
