My Bias My Boss Episode 1-2 Review: Directed by Park Ji-hyun and written by Lee Young, 최애의 사원 is adapted from Seong Eun’s webtoon My Oppa Is an Idol. The romantic workplace K-drama stars Kim Hye-jun as Nam Da-reum, Kang Hoon as Kang Ha-gi, Cha Woo-min as Lee Chan, and Shin Yu-na as Yoon Cho-yi, alongside Gong Ji-ho, Kim Ah-young, Hwang Sung-bin, and others.
My Bias My Boss Episode 1 Recap
My Bias My Boss episode 1 reveals that Nam Da-reum is a dedicated fan whose passion for the K-pop band DNX was developed in her teenage days. During the time she attended one of the band’s performances of the band with her friends, Da-reum picked Lee Chan as her favourite member and supported him throughout the years. Even though the band broke up and Chan went on to become an actor, she still maintained her admiration towards him. Although she managed to get a degree in marketing, her present job at SE Trading makes her miserable and unsatisfied.
Despite doubts raised by her friends, Park Mi-mi and Lee Seul-a, about whether being employed in Chan’s firm is the best thing for her, she still gets thrilled by the news. Da-reum, in an anxious rush, applies for the position and waits impatiently for the outcome. Being chosen gives her such an emotional boost that she runs around the entire office without bothering about anything else. While celebrating, she accidentally bumps into Kang Ha-gi, the young CEO of Appello, and makes a noticeable stain on his suit, then runs off. What Da-reum does not know at the moment is that this embarrassing meeting marks the start of many similar episodes in their further life.
Before becoming part of Appello, Da-reum throws a party with her friends Mi-mi and Seul-a. An unpredictable situation arises after they find themselves dining in the same restaurant where Ha-gi and his buddy Min-woo are having their dinner. She gets angry when she sees that a poster of her idol Chan is being ruined, and loses control when Min-woo makes fun of her favourite star. When she tries to hit Min-woo with an ice block in her rage, she ends up hitting Ha-gi instead. That night, Ha-gi gets to see Da-reum at her worst more than once, not knowing that the girl who has been creating problems for him is going to be his colleague.
On Da-reum’s first day at Appello, she first meets Park Yeong-woo and Lee Mi-na, who are also new employees, and then gets a tour from Kim Mi-yeong, the leader of the marketing department. Da-reum gets very nervous after learning that they will be meeting with the CEO, thinking that Chan is the CEO of the firm. However, her nervousness is due to the fact that after imagining how their first meeting would go, she learns that Ha-gi is the CEO of the company. To make matters worse, Da-reum starts choking on her calming pills, and Ha-gi has to assist her.
As the days pass by, Da-reum strives to concentrate on her work while keeping away from Ha-gi. Meanwhile, the two get curious when they discover that she used to work in SE Trading, a company which recently had its business proposal rejected by Ha-gi. During the company party, Da-reum gets drunk and somehow manages to get into Ha-gi’s office.
She goes to sleep inside, and after studying the security footage, Ha-gi finds out that she went inside his office just to have a look at the photo of Chan. The next day, Da-reum wakes up inside the CEO’s office without having any idea how she came there. At the end of episode 1 of My Bias My Boss, while trying to keep herself away from Ha-gi, she gets inside the elevator and finds herself standing between the CEO and the idol she loves dearly.
My Bias My Boss Episode 2 Recap
My Bias My Boss Episode 2 starts with Lee Chan going to Appello to check on work related to the fashion division of the company. While going through designs and talking about upcoming projects, Chan makes it clear that he is not inactive in the company, even after having split the CEO position with Ha-gi. Da-reum continues to come out of her shock at waking up in Ha-gi’s office. As Ha-gi goes after her to return the wallet which she had left behind, Da-reum ends up facing Chan.
For Da-reum, meeting her idol is a dream that she has been waiting for years to come true. The young girl tries hard to stay composed as Chan greets her at Appello and talks to her like any other employee. Even a small handshake makes her nervous, leaving her unable to control her emotions. However, Chan notices the necklace that she wears and recognises her from many years ago. Even before joining Appello, they had met each other without Da-reum knowing it properly.
Chan recognised her dedication as a fan of DNX and was behind her getting the very necklace that she wears. While Da-reum rejoices in her encounter with Chan as something new, Chan recognises her as a past acquaintance. Da-reum becomes more excited to know that Appello brings an exceptional employee to attend New York Fashion Week each year. Because Chan joins the trip with that particular employee each year, Da-reum finds the opportunity another opportunity to be close to her role model.
But all her hopes fade when she learns that it is Ha-gi who selects the employee every year. She decides to try to find a way to please him. But Ha-gi continues avoiding her because he is not sure of the connection that she has with SE Trading. On the other hand, Da-reum starts misinterpreting the close bond between Ha-gi and Chan due to some rumours. In episode 2 of My Bias My Boss, her suspicions increase when she finds out about how often they meet. Chan hangs around in Ha-gi’s apartment, and with their easy companionship, Da-reum begins to think whether all those rumours posted online may be true.
Ha-gi and Da-reum go on a trip to make preparations for a forthcoming fashion show. When the stage causes issues for the models, Da-reum agrees to try out the stage. She stumbles and almost falls, but Ha-gi saves her from falling. This incident adds another dimension to their budding relationship, although Da-reum is too busy examining Ha-gi and Chan’s relationship. Eventually, Da-reum gets an opportunity to spend time alone with Chan when she stays late at work. As soon as he finds out that she is still a passionate fan of DNX and that Chan is her favourite band member, he shares his phone number and invites her for a meal.
She and her friends have different perceptions about this situation; while Mi-mi thinks that Chan has an interest in Da-reum, Seul-a believes that he just wants to thank a fan who has been following him for so long. Once Da-reum dials the phone number and Cho-yi picks up the call, she concludes that Chan must have a girlfriend and that she will only stay his fan. Near the end of My Bias My Boss ep 2, Da-reum is having a tough time at work after an important presentation vanishes from her computer. She works overtime to recreate the presentation while starting to think if someone has purposely made her face the issue.
While Ha-gi sees her dedication, he listens to compliments about her performance at work from Mi-yeong, and he starts changing his mind about her. After she finishes at work and goes out in the rain, Ha-gi comes with an umbrella, offering to walk her home. During their discussion, he advises her not to lose self-confidence because of her mistake and tells her how he had trouble at first too. He sees her more and more, but their relationship hits a new high when Da-reum saves him from an oncoming bike.
My Bias My Boss Episode 1-2 Review
Episodes one and two of My Bias My Boss kdrama have established a good start for a workplace romance comedy. In the series, the dream of working with your idol, something most K-pop fans can relate to, has been turned into a romantic comedy full of confusion, funny meetings, and unexpected romance. It was great how Da-reum’s joining of Appello is not seen as just realising a dream. On the contrary, her joy gets her into very embarrassing situations, particularly when Ha-gi is around. This makes Da-reum’s story exciting since she tries to behave professionally, but inside herself, she acts like a fan entering her idol’s world.
Kim Hye-jun has made Da-reum appear more enthusiastic and relatable, especially at those times when she struggles to contain her excitement near Chan. The exaggeration is something that matches the show’s comedy-driven tone. Kang Hoon plays Ha-gi as an exceptionally composed and serious individual who stands in sharp contrast to Da-reum’s wild nature. It was fun to watch Ha-gi first see Da-reum as someone who poses a threat to him but slowly starts appreciating her sincerity and hard work. Their chemistry is already very good and is enhanced by the fact that Da-reum is always misinterpreting his intentions.
Cha Woo-min not only ensures that Lee Chan is not just the ideal hero that Da-reum has been admiring from afar. In the first two episodes, Chan seems to be warm and attentive, and his understanding of Da-reum’s past association with him brings an extra dimension to their relationship. At the same time, his closeness with Ha-gi adds another layer of confusion, which contributes to the comedic aspect of the story. Cho-yi, portrayed by Shin Yu-na, adds yet another dimension.
It is definitely one of the highlights of the first two episodes. Da-reum hitting Ha-gi by mistake, choking while meeting him for the first time, waking up in his office, and assuming that he harbours hidden feelings for Chan can result in funny scenarios. But let us hope that the storyline does not make use of the love triangle idea too much. Their relationship seems pretty exciting in any case since their bond is being created because of work and the meetings they keep having together.
My Bias My Boss Review: Summing Up
Overall, the first two episodes are entertaining with excellent chemistry, amusing workplace scenarios and even some romance for the viewers to follow. Although the show has a lot more potential for developing the characters and making workplace issues interesting, the first episodes have done a good job of introducing viewers to the personalities and relationships involved in the plot. Having seen the end of My Bias My Boss kdrama ep 1 and the increasing connection in the next episode, I am curious to see if Da-reum will start looking at Ha-gi not only as her strict CEO, but also if she will keep on confusing his relationship with Chan.
