Love in Disguise Episode 1 Recap

Episode 1 of Love in Disguise starts with an extremely gory scene in an office, where Yoon Yi-jun is standing next to a woman who has been murdered by being strangled with a belt. Another man called Kim Si-hyun comes in to find out what happened to her. In the flashback, it becomes clear why Yi-jun is there after going through five hours into the past. He was on a business trip in the Middle East with the President of South Korea and is already considering how to promote his watch. This is shown in more detail when it becomes clear that the chairman of Taekang Group, Yoon Tae-sik, plans to complete the succession process.

Kang Jae-hee, on the other hand, is a police officer whose short hair and tough appearance make others confuse her gender. While shopping in a grocery store, she finds out that a fraudster was tricking an old woman using a phone scam and chases him down. Her chase leads her into a garage filled with criminals as she battles with them before allowing the robber to run away. She later manages to catch up with him when he runs into the path of Yi-jun and Si-hyun’s car. From the very first scene with this character, it is clear that she is not a typical detective.

On the other hand, the personal life of Yi-jun also poses another problem. The secretary of Yi-jun, Han, attempts to talk to him but he fails to listen. In one flashback scene, we find out that Han and Yi-jun were dating, and Yi-jun ends the relationship and offers money to Han. However, Han does not allow it to be ended and threatens to reveal it to the chairman.

After this, the story comes back to the first scene, where it is confirmed that the dead body belongs to Han. The investigation about the case is carried out by Jae-hee and her team which includes Captain Park Bong-yi and they found out the fingerprints of Yi-jun on the dead body. But there is no blood or any tissue samples on her body, even though she struggled a lot.

The questioning of Yi-jun begins, but the process is interrupted by Jae-hee’s departure to attend a voice phishing seminar. Questioning is done by Captain Park instead, while Si-hyun insists that Yi-jun touched Han’s body just to check if she was still alive. Things become even more complicated when Ma Hee-do, Captain Park’s boss, interferes and scolds them for questioning such an influential businessman. Nonetheless, Jae-hee is not prepared to give up on the case yet. At the station, an anonymous package is received that contains a flash drive with footage of Yi-jun and Han’s discussion regarding their separation. Another important thing that the police learn about Han is that she might have another phone.

Faced with a pressure-filled situation, Jae-hee comes up with the idea of pretending to be the new secretary to search for the mobile phone. The recruitment ad is looking for a male secretary, but Jae-hee has the advantage because of her knowledge of martial arts. Preparing Jae-hee for the task, Seok-jin witnesses her as she goes through the interview process. Yi-jun tests Jae-hee’s observational abilities by showing her a photo of his office and asking if she had ever killed anyone.

Jae-hee thinks about the death of her colleague, Sergeant Go, in a hostage rescue mission. Losing her cool when Yi-jun questions what she would do to the person who caused his death, she impresses him later by saving him from an angry protester in the parking lot. Yi-jun then gives her the job, and the Love in Disguise Episode 1 ends with Jae-hee coming to his house with a pair of glasses containing a camera. Yi-jun quickly takes off the glasses and says that he knows what she is doing.

Love in Disguise Episode 2 Recap

Episode 2 of Love in Disguise, we see Jae-hee begin her new work as Yi-jun’s personal secretary and bodyguard. Yi-jun just made a good impression of himself through a promotional interview, but the reality of who he really is is quite different. He reprimands Jae-hee for wearing glasses, to which she responds that her contact lenses fell off.

After she goes to Yi-jun’s house to find Han’s phone, she meets the housekeeper Choi Myung-sook. When she gets caught snooping around, Yi-jun clearly lets her know that he knows about the murder rumours against him. He sets three rules for her: first, she needs to communicate effectively; second, keep a physical and emotional distance between them; and third, stay away from a certain room at the end of the second floor.

While Jae-hee tries to conduct her investigation within Yi-jun’s premises, her fellow officers keep investigating the murder of Han. The focus now shifts to Park Min-hwan, an accounting team leader who was observed carrying something from Yi-jun’s office floor on that fateful day. The problem is that the CCTV videos from that day are not available since they are offline. Furthermore, Jae-hee meets up with Si-hyun and Lee Ha-young, who is a secretary in the chairman’s office. It seems like Si-hyun harbours feelings for Ha-young despite trying to hide them.

When at home, Yi-jun finds himself disturbed by the knowledge that something has been moved in his office. Yi-jun then asks Jae-hee whether it is darker in there than the previous times, and her affirmative response seems to give him relief that his imagination had not played tricks on him. It is further revealed that he wishes Jae-hee to protect him from a threat that could be in his family’s house, and he promises to pay her twice the risk money. It is very hard to comprehend his actions, and the way he asks her to try out his food before he eats it. Instead of flattering his boss, she simply tells him that the food tastes horrible.

The story becomes more complicated when the cops follow Min-hwan to an art centre. Yi-jun himself is introduced to a team leader who is asked whether Han’s witness is dead. He confirms it, and Yi-jun asks him to stay in hiding. It makes Yi-jun seem more suspicious even though there are signs that he might be concerned about what is going on around him. Jae-hee does not pay attention to his advice to wait in the car and follows him into the building. Yi-jun gets angry but still needs her help when he finds out that the changes in his office were not staged.

As the episode ends, we find Jae-hee trying to investigate Yi-jun’s private area while he is sleeping. It is her attempt to recover her hidden recorder as well as search for some clues in the forbidden room. However, she faces problems when Yi-jun wakes up and tries to talk to her. It is his attempt to tell her about his strange way of trusting people by trusting situations and not people.

In the process of telling her about it, he confuses her with his endless talk and makes sure that she is not able to get away from him. At the end of Love in Disguise Episode 2, Yi-jun remains as mysterious as ever for us with the disappearance of Han’s phone and Min-hwan’s suspicious activities.

Love in Disguise Episode 1-2 Review

My initial impression of K-drama Love in Disguise is that it has a great blend of mystery and comedy elements. I found it interesting that the murder was introduced at the beginning of the story rather than taking a long time before doing so. Yi-jun is instantly suspected as a murderer; however, the series leaves no room for quick judgment on Yi-jun’s guilt.

Firstly, Yi-jun’s fingerprints were found on Han; their relationship was a difficult one; and lastly, Love in Disguise ep 2 clearly shows that Yi-jun tried to destroy some sort of evidence. On the other hand, his bizarre behaviour and sudden changes in the environment raise some suspicions.

Yim Si-wan as Yi-jun is very arrogant, unreasonable, self-conscious, and strangely dramatic while performing routine tasks. All of these traits can be noticed in his behaviour in an interview, in the rules set for Jae-hee, and in his request to taste his food. Still, the way he reacts to the transformations in his office adds something unpredictable to his character. It is not clear if he acts like that to play psychological games with the other characters or if there is actually some real danger threatening him. Either way, it is a pleasure to observe.

On the other hand, Seor In-a. How handsome a woman she is in this drama! Her short hair, manly features, and strong personality make Kang Jae-hee an exciting character to watch in this drama. She looks very convincing in her disguise, and I really admire her naturalness in performing the part of a woman who pretends to be a man. The thing I liked about her even more was that Jae-hee is more than what she looks like on the surface.

She is a bold and smart woman who is certainly capable of defending herself from anything and anybody. Whether she is chasing a criminal down or facing Yi-jun, she looks very powerful. I also liked a little hint into her difficult life history with Sergeant Go, as it gives more meaning to her determination. I already like this character a lot, and I am eagerly looking forward to how she is going to maintain her secret around Yi-jun.

What I enjoyed most about Prime Video Love in Disguise is the contrast between the serious murder investigation and the humour that comes from Yi-jun and Jae-hee’s interactions. The murder provides direction for the plot, but the two characters’ individual characteristics allow for comedic exchanges without making them entirely deviate from the murder case. Another thing I liked about the second episode is that many of the clues are introduced without an explanation provided straight away.

Prime Video Love in Disguise Review Still 8

Overall, Love in Disguise is definitely a good drama to me. Firstly, there is an intriguing mystery, a competent female protagonist, a unique male protagonist, and some humour that makes the interaction between them funny. Secondly, it is very interesting for me to see whether Yi-jun really killed Han or someone is trying to pin the blame on him.

But most importantly, what exactly is being kept secret in the forbidden room, and why is Yi-jun so worried about the changes that are insignificant to other people? Now that Jae-hee has started working inside his house, I am very interested to know how long she can keep her secret identity, what she will find out about the missing phone, and whether it will make her job difficult or even impossible.
