Little House on the Prairie Review: Directed by Julie Anne Robinson, Sydney Freeland, Kat Candler and others and developed by Rebecca Sonnenshine, the Netflix series is based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic books and also serves as a remake of the beloved 1974 television series. The drama has eight episodes, each with a runtime of 50 minutes and stars Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline, Alice Halsey as Laura, Skywalker Hughes as Mary, alongside Warren Christie, Meegwun Fairbrother, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Wren Zhawenim Gotts, Jocko Sims, Barrett Doss and others.

Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie series follows the Ingalls family as they leave their past behind and journey even farther west in pursuit of a bright new future for themselves. However, what appears as a great opportunity initially turns out to be a daily struggle for survival against harsh weather, economic difficulties, and the mental strain of starting anew. Amid all efforts to build a new future for their two daughters, Mary and Laura, Charles and Caroline discover the challenges of meeting new people, experiencing discrimination, making hard choices, and, most importantly, surviving in the wild without merely building a house.
I went into the 2026 Little House on the Prairie series with no attachment to the original television series. I feel like this actually helped the experience because I had no preconceived ideas about the scenes in the original and nothing to compare it to. I judged this show strictly on the basis of what Netflix wanted to do with it, and found myself extremely attached to the lives of the Ingalls family. It is not an action-packed, thrill-ride kind of show.
The first and foremost reason why it works can be called the personality of Laura. This character was brought to life by Alice Halsey, who endows Laura with human qualities that turn this girl into a living character instead of an ideal protagonist of kids’ shows. At times, she can act strangely and carelessly; however, this is how she learns from all the mistakes that she has made. The second great point of Little House on the Prairie is the relationship between Laura and Mary. While other similar shows use the conflicts between the siblings as some artificial situations, in this one, it happens due to differences in the personalities of these two girls.
Another character that surprises me is Charles, played by Luke Bracey. In addition to portraying Charles as a perfect father who never makes any mistakes, it is possible to find some flaws in Charles that carry emotions in them and sometimes do not help him accomplish his plans. The fact that he accepts responsibility for his flaws makes me admire him more because he does not run after other plans immediately. Charles ‘ personal sadness influences most of his decisions.
On the other hand, Crosby Fitzgerald gives some warmth to Caroline as well. I like that Caroline does not restrict herself to the role of the submissive wife who waits for her husband at home. She poses some queries on difficult decisions, engages equally to face the difficulties in life and has some emotional baggage from the past that influences her attitude towards things. The marriage of Charles and Caroline appears to be a collaboration rather than an ordinary series of marriages where one person is always dominant over another. Their arguments are not artificial because they are really worried about their future.
The only thing that I found truly enjoyable about the Little House on the Prairie series was the way that the show widened its range and examined issues not only through the eyes of the Ingalls family. Characters with Native American ancestry, African American ancestry, and mixed ancestry do not just serve to fill a quota for diversity but rather contribute an integral part to the entire story through their representation of an alternate perspective on westward expansion, which has been idealised up until this point in other frontier series.
Visually, Netflix has once again produced an amazing drama. The spectacular locations, well-designed cabins, and costumes have all contributed towards providing authenticity to the location without distracting the viewer from it. The spectacular locations keep reminding you of the isolation of the characters. There are quite a few instances in the series where the silence of the surroundings speaks much more than the dialogue.
Moreover, I have found that quite a lot of issues and prejudices that were created in the new community have been solved in a very fluid way that was not expected. There are some difficult questions asked about trust and acceptance by means of the characters that Charles and Caroline encounter, but the change of mind in quite a few instances has been too fast.
Netflix Little House on the Prairie Review: Summing Up
For me, being new to the 2026 Little House on the Prairie series via Netflix, I have found myself quite fascinated with it. This is a family drama which is highly entertaining with excellent actors, compelling characters, and an interesting historical background that makes the show relevant without making it less appealing. Its only drawback is the pace at which it is filmed, because compared to other shows on streaming platforms nowadays, it moves more slowly.
