The much-awaited Jennie ExtraL MV, featuring American rapper-singer Doechii, has finally arrived, and it’s everything fans hoped for— the bold, fierce and attitude-driven, must-listen. The song is from Jennie 1st solo album Ruby, and was released at 2 PM KST on February 21, 2025, substantiating once again that she cannot be stopped. Shot by Cole Bennett and produced through Lyrical Lemonade, the video is an eye-gloated wonder that aligns perfectly with the empowerment-driven theme of the song alongside its breath-taking lyricism.
Jennie ExtraL MV Review
This sort of collaboration seemed to be downright impossible until it came to reality. ExtraL by Jennie and Doechii is an all-star collaboration that combines Jennie’s magnetic onscreen presence, Doechii’s no-nonsense delivery and DemJointz’s polished production into a track that deserves the spotlight. The music video reinforces this with stylish visuals and commanding choreography, serving fans a preview of Jennie’s developing artistic identity.

The track is an insistent power song and is self-assured, as the lyrics confront societal mores women are expected to emulate, sometimes portrayed as perfect, kind and polished. The tagline, “Do my ladies run this?”, frames a song that is a celebration of female empowerment. The lyrics serve to make it explicit: women do not require validation from anyone. They are unapologetically themselves, unbothered by external opinions. The imagery in the MV further demonstrates that message; wearing white blazers over red bralettes, Jennie and Doechii radiate confidence and power.
If there’s one thing we take out of it, it’s how perfectly Doechii settles into this track. Not to be outdone, her quickfire verses add an extra punch that takes the track to another level. I’ve been obsessed with her since Denial Is a River, and her verse in ExtraL with Jennie just cemented why she’s one of the hottest acts in the game this very second. She offers a raw, almost effortless flow that plays nicely off Jennie’s smoother but commanding vocal delivery.

Nevertheless, Jennie has a strong sense of her place. I’ve always thought of her as more of a singer than a rapper, but here, she meets the challenge and comes through with aplomb. Their chemistry is undeniable, rendering this the strongest collaboration, solo-era, between the members of BLACKPINK thus far.
With every release, Jennie’s artistic vision grows more distinct. One pre-release track is sultry and electronic, while others like Mantra, Zen, and Love Hangover cover much wider sonic ground. Doiechii, the track leans into alternative hip-hop with genre-bending elements that showcase the versatility of the Blackpink member.
Every lyric in Jennie’s songs is about conquering freedom, confidence and going against society. Be it in relationships or personal identity, she always emphasises the strength and resilience. This track continues that excellent trend — and it seems to be a major story arc of Ruby.

One thing that stuck out to me was that the credits at the end of the MV (music video), took a full minute. I know that might sound strange, but I loved it! Is a reminder that music videos are so much more than the artists featured in them — it’s about the collective effort. All the smooth visuals, conceal execution and total production quality would not be possible without the diligent group behind the scenes. I respect the fact that Jennie and Doechii gave credit to their team, because giving credit where credit is due is one of the most important things one can do.
From a power anthem to a visually stunning MV, ExtraL by Jennie & Doechii is a win in every possible way. With its hard-hitting beat, empowering lyrics and impeccable execution, the song was a perfect pre-release track. Jennie isn’t letting any limits on herself, and like with each new song, she shows she’s forging her own trail as a solo artist.

For Jennie Ruby album, the wait is now even more hype with less than a week to go. Barring a sudden left turn down Blur’s misguided late-period hip-hop road, if the rest of the album follows the same artistic thread as the pre-releases then we’re in for a genuine humdinger. Jennie is owning her sound, her image and her artistry — and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
