How Did Ha-ran Discover the Connection Between Sunwoo Chan and Hyeok-chan?

It takes a while for Ha-ran to realise something that just hits her all of a sudden. Initially, certain details begin making her doubt things, such as the existence of identical engraved pens and Sunwoo Chan’s odd familiarity with situations in which he was not involved. However, it is not until she sees Chan’s notebook and correlates it with the old letter that refers to Hyeok-chan’s roommate as Chan that she starts getting an inkling that the man whom she used to feel connected to years back was not Hyeok-chan, but Sunwoo Chan.

Her attitude towards the new discovery is definitely not one of rationality or acceptance. All of a sudden, everything falls into place for her. Not only does she feel lied to and tricked, but also disappointed and cheated on. Unable to differentiate between the two men who were both a part of her life, she starts rejecting Chan’s explanations, pushing him and leaving him, believing that her chance at happiness has once again been taken from her.

Why Did Sunwoo Chan Suddenly Disappear from Ha-ran’s Life?

Chan’s disappearance is based on feelings of guilt, fear, and an uncertain state of mind. With the recollection of bits from his past, Chan feels the urge to find out exactly what had happened during the time of the explosion. When Chan questions Su-jin about this matter, she makes his fears come true by confirming that he did indeed argue with Hyeok-chan and that the fire might have resulted from their fight. With this information, Chan begins to think that his actions could have led to this disaster.

On the other hand, Chan’s state of health makes matters even more complex. The shrapnel in Chan’s brain distorts his memory and also affects his hearing, resulting in auditory hallucinations, which make it hard for Chan to distinguish between reality and fiction. In uncertainty about his memories, as well as the fear of possibly having obliterated the past of Ha-ran, Chan decides to leave on his own accord without much explanation. This leaves a note to signal the end of their “three-month trial period.” By leaving, Chan tries to protect Ha-ran from any future pain, and his departure can be perceived as a sacrifice made on Chan’s part despite increasing Ha-ran’s isolation.

What Really Happened Seven Years Ago? Was Sunwoo Chan Really Responsible for the Explosion?

The occurrences that took place seven years ago were much more complex than people thought they were at first. Even though it appeared to be an unfortunate accident, the reality is much darker. Hyeok-chan had distanced himself from Ha-ran for a while now, and he was dating Su-jin. It was also Hyeok-chan who suggested Chan send a text to Ha-ran for him.

However, the explosion wasn’t caused by Chan himself since he had been apprehensive about that. It turned out that it occurred when Hyeok-chan mistakenly dropped a chemical, and the flame from his lighter ignited it. The whole truth is revealed to Ha-ran when she finally gets to know it all from Su-jin, and now Ha-ran has not only been cleared of her suspicions but also has learned whom to rely on.
