The first gate triggers the memories of the traumatic experience when her friend was brutally killed. The second gate is haunted by the memory of Se-ah’s parents’ death due to a car accident. The third gate is the harshest of them all. As Se-ah passes it, she hears the voice of Ha-joon saying that he installed the app himself to save her life, and if she does not look back, Ha-joon will die.
This one instance grants the entity enough power to tighten its grip on her and force Hatsal to face off against it head-on. Knowing that Se-ah is completely trapped in the curse, Hatsal acts upon her from within the spiritual plane itself. With her powers, she severs the chain that connects Se-ah to the curse, literally breaking its ties with the world of reality. Though this releases Se-ah from the curse, it is evident that Hatsal is not spared from its effects as well. The spell is definitely not over yet, for it is impossible to break free from the curse by running away from it.
What Was the Origin of the Girigo App?
Girigo App was not born evil from the start. Rather, it started as an innocent project initiated by some students, especially Si-won and her companions, for a programming task. The premise of the application itself is innocuous—a platform for users to wish upon something, as though sending a message to the cosmos. Thus far, there was no strength in Girigo; it was nothing but an invention.
It was all due to personal vendetta and trauma. The bad blood between Si-won and her mother, the shaman, together with her hatred for her best friend Hye-ryung, resulted in a dangerous spell cast without intention, making the program contain spiritual power. Subsequently, under humiliation and duress, Hye-ryung made use of the program out of sheer desperation and sacrificed herself to give death to the ones that had wronged her, resulting in the formation of a curse program. The real truth behind this eternal curse is revealed to be Si-won’s last wish, and this continues the cursed cycle despite the death of Hye-ryung.
Within this domain, Hatsal manages to distract and contain Si-won’s spirit, risking her own life for the opportunity to do so. On the other hand, Se-ah finds Si-won’s mobile phone, which truly serves as the source of the curse. Following a tough battle, which includes fighting Na-ri, Se-ah succeeds in destroying the mobile phone by means of a spiritual tool. As a result, the curse loses its strength since the spiritual connection collapses. Upon their return to the real world, the danger has passed.
