Who Was Really Responsible for Mishty’s Kidnapping?
Though the people who committed the kidnapping in Bani’s case were from the Blackhole group, the movie shows that the case is more complex than Bani can perceive at first glance. Jhunu Amba, whom Bani thinks of as a motherly figure, did not know that she was playing an important part in getting Mishty into trouble. When her granddaughter was kidnapped by the Blackhole gang, she negotiated with the gang for the return of her granddaughter.
To assist the gang in achieving their objective, she disclosed the whereabouts of Bani, thinking that she was only sharing information that would save her own granddaughter. What Amba did not know was that Blackhole would use that information to find Bani and kidnap Mishty. This is the lesson that Bani comes to know about as Uma Didi discovers the link between Amba and the gang called Blackhole at the old factory. The discovery turns out to be particularly harsh, as Amba was an important person in Bani’s life who had helped her regain her ability despite her blindness.
Amba also confesses that she never meant for Mishty to be kidnapped but ended up sacrificing herself along with bringing down Uma. Therefore, while Blackhole and its associates are to blame for the kidnapping of Mishty, it is the action of Amba in revealing the whereabouts of Bani that enables the gang to find her. Gokul also turns out to have his own link to Blackhole.
How Did Bani Discover Who Was Involved in Blackhole?
It takes Bani some time to reveal the people behind Blackhole because she does not get to see the whole web of traffickers at once. The turning point comes when a little girl named Nisha, who attends the same school where Bani works, gets seriously sick and ends up in the hospital. During her eye examination, Bani realises that something strange is going on. She learns that the doctors working in the hospital are part of the trafficking ring and that the child has not actually died even though her parents have been informed of it.
The traffickers use another body as a decoy and pretend that Nisha has died so that they can take away all trace of her identity. Bani follows Nisha while she is being carried in a van and hears Uma Didi and the driver talking about their trafficking plans. They mention that one of the kidnapped girls has died and that Nisha is being brought as a substitute for her. This investigation brings Bani to the network of Blackhole even deeper. She sees that the operation involves many more people than she thought. Eventually, she finds out that Uma, Churni Didi and Somesh work for Blackhole.
Also, the case of Jhunu Amba shows another link to this gang. Churni’s shelter house is also involved in this operation. The police find nothing after investigating it. But Bani manages to make a connection between the disguises she saw in the shelter and the Chaumukhi Puja, which is about to happen soon. This helps her understand that traffickers can dress as Bahurupi performers and get away from the crowd at this religious festival with kidnapped girls. This investigation leads her to the hidden tunnel and then to the docks, where she finally discovers the last step of the operation by Blackhole.
Why Did Gokul Betray Bani?
The most surprising aspect of the ending of Gandhari is the betrayal by Gokul. Bani at first thinks that her husband is actually helping her look for Mishty, but as soon as she gets to the docks, Gokul blocks her way and does not help her save the children. It turns out that Gokul has some sort of connection with Blackhole from his past. Gokul did not start out as an ordinary man who became part of the gang as a result of the kidnapping of Mishty; he was actually a member of Blackhole before.
However, later on, he realised the moral issues of his actions, and he stopped being a part of the gang. Moreover, previously, he actually saved Bani from trafficking in the same network. They created a family afterwards. In the current context, Dada Bhai uses the love that Gokul has for his daughter Mishty to his advantage. He makes Gokul an offer: if he ensures that Bani does not interfere in their plan to traffic the girls out of Joypurra and lets the rest of the kidnapped girls go with him, then he can have his daughter back.
Gokul agrees to the plan since he cannot imagine living without his daughter. In the process, he is saving his daughter, but the same choice is being viewed differently by Bani. She cannot accept the idea of saving one child at the expense of many others. When she tries to interfere, both of them end up fighting, and she beats him up. This shows that Gokul betrayed Bani due to fear, guilt, and desperation to save his daughter, but the truth was revealed to Bani too.
Was Bani Able to Save Mishty, and What Happened to Dada Bhai?
Yes, at the end of Gandhari, Bani does succeed in saving Mishty at last, but not by saving her daughter through the sacrifice of the other girls who have been kidnapped. Even after killing Gokul, Bani proceeds to reach the docks and comes to confront Dada Bhai, who is the leader of Blackhole. The only thing that Dada Bhai knows about Bani is that Mishty is her biggest vulnerability.
Thus, he threatens Bani by using Mishty against her and tries to make her surrender to him. Dada Bhai makes it very clear that he will kill Mishty if Bani stops his trafficking activities. He even takes Mishty out of a wooden box while Bani is badly hurt on the ground. The final struggle turns out to be the brutal fight between Bani and Dada Bhai. Dada Bhai considers himself to be some kind of Magrasur, the demon that serves goddess Chaumukhi, and Bani is the mother who has to kill him. Even though she gets severely injured, Bani manages to overpower Dada Bhai and kill him with a metal rod in his body.
Dada Bhai’s death gives Bani an opportunity to get to Mishty and hug her. All other kidnapped girls are also freed thanks to Kabir and his team. Therefore, Bani’s journey does not only involve the rescue of her daughter but also saving all the other kidnapped girls from being killed, since Gokul decides to sacrifice them in order to fulfil the ritual. Gokul’s destiny remains unclear in the film since there is no information on whether Bani tells the police about his participation in all that or not. However, in the 2026 Gandhari movie ending, we see that Bani leaves Gokul and goes away with Mishty after the rescue.
