Dear X Episode 9-10 Review: Following the aftermath of In-gang’s death, we all thought that Ah-jin’s life was going to crumble down, but this drama, 친애하는 X, once again proved that Ah-jin is the kind of character who is never out of moves. Adapted from Ban Ji-un’s webtoon, directed by Lee Eung-bok and Park So-hyun, the drama features Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, Kim Do-hoon and Hong Jong-hyun alongside Lee Yul-eum, Kim Yi-kyung, Bae Soo-bin, Kim Yoo-mi and Kim Ji-young, among others.

Dear X Episode 9 Recap

Episode 9 of Dear X starts with Ah-jin’s fall from grace: News outlets show continuous coverage of her being evicted from Longstar, and immediately, CEO Seo Me-ri does not hold back from confronting her on the rooftop, accusing Ah-jin of driving In-gang to his death. She promises she will make sure to expose every shady detail the company hid in its secret “shackles” files. But Ah-jin lets her know that Me-ri had known for years that In-gang was suffering from depression and yet did nothing to stop it all in the name of profit.

The accusation proves to be Me-ri’s downfall as she is publicly shamed within hours and later arrested, while the CEO of Do Entertainment, Moon Do-hyeok, played by Hong Jong-hyun, buries her reputation and offers Ah-jin a lucrative new contract on the spot. In a fell swoop, Ah-jin’s scandal is whitewashed, and her image is skillfully rebuilt.

Meanwhile, Jun-seo gets shocking news that his mother desperately needs a kidney transplant, and he is the only suitable donor. Despite the cruelties his mother has committed all these years, he agrees to save her life on one condition: she must never approach Ah-jin or his grandfather again. She reluctantly agrees, and the surgery goes ahead.

Back in Jae-oh’s office, he and Jun-seo are discussing the ghost cars that have been tailing Ah-jin. Then, out of nowhere, someone places a fuel canister outside the door and lights it on fire. The gas leaks fast, but Jae-oh catches the scent in time. He and Jun-seo leap out of the first-floor window just as the office erupts in flames. As the screen fills with flames, it becomes clear this was no random attack – it was orchestrated by Do-hyeok’s men, revealing just how far he is willing to go.

The kdrama Dear X episode 9 ends with the meeting of Ah-jin and Do-hyeok, where he promises her a golden future ahead, full of fortune and influence, and being able to have any project she desires. But there was one chilling condition attached: that she had to marry him. His tone, the way he looked at her, the ease with which he destroyed Me-ri were all signals of one thing – far from an innocent proposal.

Dear X Episode 10 Recap

Episode 10 of Dear X begins with confirmation that the immediate aftermath of the fire was that Jae-oh and Jun-seo managed to survive by jumping out just in time. Bruised but alive, this attack makes it painfully clear that someone very powerful is pulling strings from behind the scenes.

Before Jun-seo can process any of this, he receives a sudden call: his grandfather’s health has taken a turn for the worse. He rushes to the hospital, but the next scene cuts directly to the funeral, which means he didn’t make it in time. At the funeral, Jun-seo is left to handle his grief alone. Jae-oh appears briefly with updates about Ah-jin, while Jun-seo’s mother — intoxicated and furious — causes yet another scene.

In a fit of anger, she reveals Jun-seo’s true birth, confirming to him that his grandfather wasn’t his blood-related family. Even further, she goes to demand compensation for bringing him up, humiliating him in front of others. Later, she tries to justify her lies, but Jun-seo finally tells her what he has held in for years — she has always been cruel, and he clung to Ah-jin because he had no one else who made him feel worthy.

Elsewhere, Sung-hee gets taken in for trying to sell Ah-jin’s designer bags, but Ah-jin comes forward and clears her name. But she’s visibly peeved and quietly packs her things. On her way out, she bumps into Jun-seo, who confronts her again over the parentage secret. Calm and cold, Ah-jin says she never lied – she merely withheld the truth for his benefit. She then reminds him that his privileged upbringing gave him opportunities most people never have. The implication in her tone is painfully clear: she no longer sees a reason to keep him close.

She then goes to a luxurious mansion, her new home, with Do-hyeok. She then views wedding invitations inside and first-class tickets to Sicily in preparation for a life of extreme wealth. Their future marriage soon hit the national news, which devastated and confused Jun-seo and Jae-oh.

Behind his charming appearance, however, Do-hyeok hides something much more dangerous: he seals an entire floor of the house, forbidden to Ah-jin. She asks to practice there, but he will not let her, insisting instead on rehearsing with her himself. While he does this, he conversationally mentions the divorce from his first wife, claiming he can “get rid of” anybody who makes him angry. His obsession with Ah-jin goes from protective to obsessive, eerily controlled.

The Dear X Episode 10 ending is violent: Jung-hee, in a maid’s outfit, infiltrates the house and then attacks Ah-jin with a knife, blaming her for ruining her life. Ah-jin fights back, counter-attacking with harsh truths against Jung-hee before finally shoving her in the struggle. Jung-hee falls hard; a deep wound slices across her face.

Ah-jin reacts with a quivering, tear-drenched laugh that’s just a hair away from crossing the divide between grief and madness. The blood pools around Jung-hee as Do-hyeok walks in, catching the scene right at the moment when everything spirals completely out of control.

Dear X Episode 9-10 Review

Episodes 9 and 10 of Dear X are pure, unfiltered madness; the kind of chaos that feels mixed with obsession, with a dash of psychological warfare. Baek Ah-jin doesn’t just come back into the spotlight; she rockets back in, armed with an energy sort of like someone who has survived too much to go down quietly. It feels like the show just took one deep breath and said, “Alright, let’s make everyone panic.”

In kdrama Dear X ep 9, we get corporate betrayal, rooftop confrontations, and a career resurrection so dramatic it practically deserves its own theme song. Ah-jin walks through scandals like she is made of emotional bulletproof armour, and the audience is forever torn between “girl, stop” and “queen, continue.” Meanwhile, Jun-seo’s life is falling apart like a badly built Jenga tower: tragic revelations, a messy funeral, and then the heartbreak upon heartbreak. His world is burning down, and Ah-jin? She’s busy signing contracts with a billionaire who has the same emotional aura as a beautifully wrapped red flag.

Ah-jin’s new life with Do-hyeok is glossy and glamorous, absolutely suspicious in a cinematic way that’s the equivalent of a gorgeous cake one knows is filled with poison. Do-hyeok’s mansion alone looks like a place where secrets get dressed up in designer suits, and that locked private floor practically screams “Please run”. The man smiles in the way one does when he is planning a surprise party, but the surprise is psychological devastation. And yet Ah-jin? She’s smiling through it like she’s auditioning for the queen of controlled chaos.

And just when you think the episodes cannot get heavier, Jung-hee shows up with a knife, a vendetta, and the energy of someone who took revenge personally. Their confrontation is brutal, terrifying, and strangely intimate-two women whose lives were shattered in very different ways, crashing into each other like emotional earthquakes. Ah-jin’s shaken, tearful laugh at the end? That’s the sound of a woman who has run out of places to hide, even from herself.

Episodes 9 and 10 push this drama into deliciously dangerous territory as each relationship is stretched taut. A single breath away from snapping, Jun-seo spirals, Jae-oh loses his grip on the situation at best, and Ah-jin takes a walk into the lion’s den in heels, confidence, and trauma as accessories. And Do-hyeok? He’s the type of character who makes you scream, “Sir, please stop being polite and start showing your colours.”

It feels, with two episodes remaining, that Dear X is preparing the storm of the season. Choices have cornered Ah-jin in a corner, wrapped in luxury and danger. Jun-seo is ready for a comeback driven by a broken heart and loyalty. The secrets which Do-hyeok holds are ticking like a bomb below the floor of the mansion. Where Episodes 9 and 10 shook us, the finale is ready to flip the whole table.
