Dear X Episode 5-6 Review: Adapted from Ban Ji Un’s webtoon 친애하는 X, the show started as a chilling drama on how pain could transform into power through the change of Ah-jin’s character: from an abused child to becoming a manipulative actress who crushes anyone standing in her way. The first four episodes set up her rise by deceit and survival; she is painted here both as a victim and a villain of her own creation. The series stars Kim Yoo-jung as the dangerously captivating Baek Ah-jin, alongside Kim Young-dae, Kim Do-hoon, Hwang In-yeop, Lee Yul-eum, Kim Yi-kyung, Bae Soo-bin, and others.

Episode 5 of Dear X opens on the glittering red carpet in Busan, where Baek Ah-jin and Heo In-gang, played by Hwang In-yeop, appear arm in arm. One moment of accidental intimacy-when In-gang has to help her untangle her gown-causes a media frenzy. Behind all this glamour, however, emotional undercurrents get darker. That very night, In-gang breaks up with his long-time girlfriend, Im Re-na, who is also Ah-jin’s fiercest rival and co-star.
The tension spills over onto the film set the next day, where Re-na and Ah-jin have it out in public. Meanwhile, Mi-ri counsels In-gang to wait until after his campaign is over to break up with her, but he refuses. When Mi-ri finds out about Re-na’s misbehaviour, she publicly confronts her about a past DUI and destroys her image in front of the crew. It’s a brutal moment of exposure that leaves everyone ill at ease except Ah-jin, who watches, learning.
Soon after, Ah-jin learns that Mi-ri keeps secret dossiers on all the actors under her management possible blackmail lever able to destroy anyone’s career. As Ah-jin searches for the files, Re-na, tipped off by Hyang-i, intercepts her and snatches them first. Confrontation turns violent when Re-na slaps Ah-jin across the face, an act caught on camera by Jun-seo. Longstar Entertainment later spins it as a “staged” scene for publicity, further blurring the line between performance and reality.
But Ah-jin is not helpless as she seems; she had expected the betrayal and had asked Hyang-i to record everything secretly. At the company’s year-end party, a police officer who is aware of her dark past makes a veiled threat to expose her, while both Re-na and Jun-seo are witnesses to the exchange. The episode, in fact, ends on an emotional U-turn wherein Ah-jin clings to Jun-seo and says she wants to learn to love In-gang-perhaps words uttered from the heart, but even then, one infused with that ambiguity characterising every action of hers.

Dear X Episode 6 Recap
Episode 6 of Dear X opens with Jun-seo’s mother confronting Ah-jin, accusing her of manipulating her son. Jun-seo intervenes in the matter and escorts his mother home, showing how protective he is. On set, Ah-jin and In-gang film a romantic embrace that reflects their offscreen chemistry. In-gang then opens up about his past as an idol and the incident where his band member, Ji-hyeok, had a near-fatal allergic reaction from fan-sent macarons. In-gang admits he suspected danger but said nothing, guilt that now gnaws at him.
Ah-jin’s precarious peace is shattered when the same police officer calls her, insisting on meeting at a seedy bar, where he insinuates that he will expose her father’s death. As fate would have it, In-gang shows up at the same place, and tension explodes when their worlds collide. Meanwhile, Jae-oh starts an investigation into the officer, snatching data off his phone and searching for the origin of the rumours connecting Ah-jin with murder. He and Jun-seo vow to protect her at all costs, even against the law.
Their alliance brings warmth back into Ah-jin’s life. Time together, and she reveals glimpses of her old, carefree self among them. But Jun-seo’s research uncovers heartbreaking truths about In-gang’s family: a lost father to a car crash, a mother’s suicide, and a grandmother who raised him all alone. Ah-jin, visiting her grandmother, is touched by her kindness and invites her along for a memorial meal. In-gang finds out about the visit, storms over, and accuses her of overstepping boundaries. The confrontation reveals not malice but buried grief.
At their company gathering, In-gang is reunited with Ji-hyeok, who reveals he always knew what happened with the macarons but has forgiven him in pursuit of closure. Ah-jin is touched by the reunion between In-gang and Ji-hyeok, and she starts looking at In-gang in a different way. Jae-oh and Jun-seo corner the corrupt officer and expose his bribery; he had to retract the false report. The storm that threatened Ah-jin’s career finally passed.
The last moments: Under the starry night sky, In-gang and Ah-jin meet one more time. She wraps her scarf around him as he shivers with unexpressed guilt and longing. Quiet yet powerful, this was a kiss of two broken people who found warmth in each other’s cold worlds.
Dear X Episode 5-6 Review
Episodes 5 and 6 of Dear X really throw a spanner into the works as it turns Baek Ah-jin from a rising actress into a full-fledged strategist, merging industrial politics with psychological warfare. Undoubtedly, the pinnacle of this entire arc should be the standoff she has with Re-na, where professional rivalry gets personal and every word cuts like daggers veiled in silk.
The BIFF red carpet sequence exquisitely portrays the dual sides of Ah-jin’s life: the shimmering veneer of fame cloaking the bruises of manipulation underneath. Kim Yoo-jung commands the screen with an icy precision that sends shivers down your spine, while the fragile link to her humanity is Kim Young-dae’s Jun-seo, stuck in a mess of love and obsession.
The series delves into deeper waters than the glitzy and glamorous entertainment world. A deeper emotional core is seen in Dear X kdrama ep 6 when In-gang reveals his dark past moment that redefined his career and scarred his conscience. His growing rapport with Ah-jin unwinds like a dangerous waltz, steps closer toward affection and hauls them deeper into deceit. Their chemistry burns slow and quiet until it reaches its peak in a kiss that feels less like romance than surrender, a fragile moment of intimacy between two people who have forgotten what innocence feels like.
Meanwhile, the tension tightens on all fronts. The return of Detective Park gives a grittier texture to the storyline, and Ah-jin must balance the line between her control and collapse. How she manipulates In-gang through charm and vulnerability shows the extent she goes to maintain her powers while her lies begin to tangle around her. Jun-seo’s fall at the end of episode 6 of Dear X injects a haunting sense of the cost of loving someone who turns everything she touches into destruction.
