Bloodhounds Season 2 Ending Explained
Why Did Gun-woo Accept the Fighting Offer of Baek-jeong?
Initially, Gun-woo did not have any inclination to join Baek-jeong’s vicious underworld because he was successful in his legal boxing career. Nonetheless, Baek-jeong is no ordinary rival as he likes manipulating, bullying, and attacking other people. Gun-woo ends up joining Baek-jeong’s underworld after the lives of his family members, including his mom, are threatened.

This is when Baek-jeong sets off a bomb at the hotel, which causes several casualties, including Detective Min, who had assisted them in their endeavours. In addition, it is during this period that Min-beom is already admitted into the hospital due to being poisoned by the gang members of Baek-jeong, proving that anyone associated with Gun-woo cannot be spared. However, it is not the physical violence that ultimately forces Gun-woo into submission. It is the mental torture he receives afterwards. Baek-jeong directly contacts him, telling him that everything that happens is his fault – that he will continue to attack only if Gun-woo does not participate in the fight. Realising the gravity of his decision, he accepts the duel.
In the end, when the battle is on, Gun-woo fights under his own terms without using the illegal knuckles used by others for their fights. In the beginning, his style of fighting helps him in gaining an upper hand, and it even seems that he can defeat Baek-jeong. However, he underestimates Baek-jeong’s ruthlessness and experience in such brutal fights. He changes the game in his favour, winning back his control and inflicting heavy damage to Gun-woo. Right when he is about to end his life, the arrival of police forces stops him and makes him leave.

Why Was Tae-Gum Working for Baek-jeong and How Did He Die?
Unlike other criminals who join crime bosses for the sake of loyalty and ambition, the reason behind Tae-Gum joining Baek-jeong was not because of loyalty and ambition but desperation. To begin with, Tae-Gum used to be a high-ranking officer in the army, and he is well-known for his skills in using explosives and handling such matters with extreme professionalism. Unfortunately for Tae-Gum, he suffered a tragic misfortune when his wife was diagnosed with cancer and required expensive treatment.
In his effort to save his wife, he borrowed a huge sum of money, which he could never pay back since his wife died after the treatment. In addition, loan sharks started pestering him until he decided to leave the military for his own protection. He cared mainly about his family, particularly his daughter, which made him vulnerable and a prime candidate for manipulation. This is where the manipulative techniques of Baek-jeong come into play, which he uses in getting people to work with him by making use of their loved ones.

In such a way, Tae-Gum finds himself caught up in Baek-jeong’s world in order to protect his family members from any possible harm. Even while serving under the antagonist, Tae-Gum is not a villain in essence; he is merely a victim of dire circumstances. Finally, Tae-Gum decides to leave all of that behind and help the police get rid of Baek-jeong without his knowledge. Yet, this betrayal becomes the reason for Tae-Gum’s death, since Baek-jeong cannot stand any kind of treason.
The tragedy becomes symbolic since it shows how dangerous it was to be connected with Baek-jeong in any way. At the end of the film, the family of Tae-Gum finds shelter, which implies that even though Tae-Gum committed many mistakes in his life, he wanted to do good at the end.

How Did Woo-jin and Gun-woo Save Their Mother, and What Was the Plan?
Rescuing Gun-woo’s mother was not only dependent on physical strength but also required intricate planning and timing. The entire strategy hinged on using the last match between Gun-woo and Baek-jeong as a cover-up. When Baek-jeong is fully engaged with his fight and a huge sum of money is involved, the actual rescue operation will happen off-camera. They had recruited external assistance from the police as well as those inside. Among the key players in their plan is Du-Yeong, formerly known as “knifer.” Having been on the run for years while repenting for his crimes, Du-Yeong managed to enter the circle of fighters and guards. He had successfully disguised himself as one of Baek-jeong’s fighters to search for Gun-woo’s mother.
The action commenced, and all events took place simultaneously. As Woo-jin and Gun-woo were busy with Baek-jeong in the ring, Du-Yeong was sneaking around the area, eliminating any guards she came across, and picking up on the hints, even getting hurt herself in the process. Meanwhile, the police were monitoring the situation based on the gathered intelligence and making sure that their intervention would take place in due course. They had some difficulties, for there were many decoys designed to mislead them; however, eventually, they found out where the girl actually was. A struggle ensued, and the police officer managing the situation killed the guard, allowing Woo-jin and Gun-woo’s mother to be saved.

What Happened in the Final Match of IKFC?
In Bloodhounds Season 2 Episode 7, we see that the final IKFC game is meant to be an extremely risky two-vs-two confrontation, which makes it much more exciting than just a regular fight. One team includes Gun-woo and Woo-jin, while the other team has Baek-jeong and Kang In-beom. The tactics for the fight are quite straightforward; first, Woo-jin would knock down Baek-jeong by attacking his damaged eye, after which Gun-woo would easily defeat him. At the start of the game, Woo-jin attacks Baek-jeong, who is caught unaware, resulting in further damage to his vision but also causing significant harm to Woo-jin.
Following this, Gun-woo takes control and initially attacks In-beom, who is thoroughly beaten up before moving on to deal with Baek-jeong. The last clash between them is violent, and there is an abundance of emotion in it. Although he tries once more to exert dominance over his opponent by attacking Gun-woo’s broken limb, he finds himself unable to win as Gun-woo is quick to respond and adapt to the situation. By the end of Bloodhounds Season 2, Gun-woo succeeds in defeating Baek-jeong.

What Happened to Baek-jeong at the End of Bloodhounds Season 2?
Following his defeat, Baek-jeong is arrested, and it seems that his rule has ended. But this situation does not last long; something else happens. He finds himself in the middle of an ambush while he is being escorted. These are no ordinary criminals who conduct this ambush; rather, these are people associated with other big players in the background. Baek-jeong’s murder is faked, and the evidence shows that his death was faked.
The fact is that Baek-jeong continues to live and is utilised for bartering. He is blackmailed and asked to share some useful information, especially regarding any big crime operation, so that he could save himself from death. Thus, it appears that Baek-jeong is not merely an antagonist, but he is now also being used by someone else to achieve their own purposes. It becomes apparent that there will be some future complications involving him.

Will there be a Bloodhounds Season 3?
Though there hasn’t been an official announcement regarding Season 3 of Bloodhounds yet, the ending clearly leaves room for more storylines to develop. There are a few loose ends that need to be tied up, such as the bigger picture involving the bloodhound network outside of Baek-jeong. Gun-woo and Woo-jin themselves reveal that they’re still going to continue their fight, and their new objective is to destroy the entire system instead of just the one person.
Moreover, the introduction of new aspects at the end, such as the presence of unknown people and secret manoeuvres, implies that there is more to this story that is yet to be discovered. There is also the inclusion of new characters and the retention of the important ones that provide enough suspense to warrant the development of another season. Taking into account how well-loved the series is, together with its open-ended ending, the probability of a third season is quite high.
