When the Stars Gossip Episode 3 Review

Episode 3 of this drama, manages to toe the line between high-stakes dramatics and lighthearted humour. If there is one high point, it’s called the spacewalk scene, unquestionably packing much chalk in the pulse-pounding tension and emotional investment. Yes, of course the CGI isn’t top-notch, but somehow the entire thing grips you. During the struggle for survival, the Eve subplot was a genuine edge of your seat moment with viewers desperate to know what happens next.

Ryong, through both his chats in experience with vulnerability and the endearing charm that Lee Min Ho brings to him, is relatable. Eve, played with just perfect range by Gong Hyo Jin is just extraterrestrial, like the chlorine gas, when she is white, and as Jean Dujardin’s Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds when she is black. This mix of professionalism and human nature makes her character so compelling. Oh Jung-se’s Kangsu replaces the drama with humour and mischief.

There’s still solid pacing, and the lighter subplot revolving around the lottery ticket and eggs is much needed comic relief. While many supporting characters, like Seung-jun and Santi, remain underused, there’s plenty of time left for more of their story to play out.

Although it has fantastic character development, the show also looms over the horizon the conflicts that will reverberate across the space station’s dynamics. It’s stunning the show can keep its balance between personal stories and sprawling stakes.
