My Troublesome Star Episode 1-2 Review: The new K-drama 금쪽같은 내스타 reprises a stellar cast with Uhm Jung-hwa as Im Se-ra and Song Seung-heon as Dokgo Cheol. They’re supported by Lee El (Ko Hui-yeong), Oh Dae-hwan (Kang Du-won), Jang Da-ah as young Se-ra, and Lee Min-jae as young Cheol. Directed by Choi Young-hoon, written from a script by Park Ji-ha, the romantic drama delves into lost dreams, second chances, and unlikely attachments. With the blend of nostalgia, sentimental romance, and mystery, the drama sets an interesting premise right from the start.
My Troublesome Star Episode 1 Recap
Episode 1 of My Troublesome Star opens in 1999, with Im Se-ra enjoying the pinnacle of her popularity. Beloved on screen and respected off screen, she seems to have it all, but beneath the glamorous façade, she is caught between an overbearing father and unwanted advances from influential men, such as leading actor Won Ban. Dokgo Cheol, a lowly but conscientious clerk, encounters her when a case concerning Se-ra falls onto his desk by error. Se-ra is initially reluctant to take on the issue, but following a tearful phone call to Cheol, she summons the strength to face the issue.

Her own life, however, turns tragic. Following a spectacular professional triumph in which she donates her award to Cheol, Se-ra becomes involved in a fatal car accident. Waking up in 2025, she is stunned to discover that more than two decades have gone by. A sufferer of retrograde amnesia, she refuses to accept the reality until her surroundings and TV news set her straight. Distraught and puzzled, she leaves the hospital only to be rescued by Cheol, who returns into her life in a dramatic turn of events. Their chance encounter in the epilogue brings them back to their initial emotional bond, paving the way for a deeper relationship.
My Troublesome Star Episode 2 Recap
My Troublesome Star kdrama ep 2 picks up from where ep 1 left off. Cheol runs into Se-ra outside the hospital, and her ex-action coordinator Du-won gets to see her for the first time. Still trying to get abreast with her situation, Se-ra struggles to adjust, particularly when she finds herself staying now in a small gosiwon. Cheol’s attempt to keep his distance notwithstanding, his worry is still there, particularly after a series of comedic but tension-ridden mishaps, such as when he misinterprets her attempt to search for a phone signal on the rooftop as a suicide attempt, and the two of them rolling into a trash can.

Se-ra’s everyday struggles continue as she attempts to reestablish relations with her sister Baek-ja, only to be confronted with the shift in their relationship and surprised to discover a niece she has never laid eyes on. Attempting to start anew, she finds work but messes up even the most basic of things. Cheol investigates the car accident that altered Se-ra’s life. His investigation turns out to be foreboding: the truck driver involved could have intentionally attempted to run her down. Suspicion erupts when it is discovered that the driver was asking gruesome questions of Se-ra’s survival.
As things heat up, Cheol hurries to come to her rescue, but before she is able to flee, danger overtakes her. The scene hangs in suspense on a cliffhanger, with Cheol fighting to save her as past and present converge. The epilogue is a poignant flashback of young Cheol attempting to encounter Se-ra, with a glimpse of many years of missed encounters and meetings between the two.

My Troublesome Star Episode 1-2 Review
The first two episodes of My Troublesome Star have found a perfect balance of nostalgia, emotional heft, and love tension. The show is ideal in the manner it handles Se-ra’s wake-up frustrations decades later and the tension that simmers beneath between her and Cheol. Uhm Jung-hwa brings out Se-ra’s vulnerability blazingly truthfully, switching seamlessly between the star of 1999 with confidence and the insecure woman struggling with amnesia in 2025. Song Seung-heon is a fine foil to her, delivering quiet strength and empathy to Cheol.
Story-wise, the drama is able to weave romance and mystery well together. My Troublesome Star kdrama ep 1 establishes the emotional ground well, and episode 2 raises the stakes by adding foul play to Se-ra’s accident. The combination turns the drama into not just a romance but also a suspenseful drama. The comedy sprinkled here and there, particularly in the rooftop and subway scenes, serves to balance out the darker aspects, and the characters are rendered more human and credible.

Choi Young-hoon’s direction deserves credit for mixing past and present timelines without confusion, and writer Park Ji-ha’s skill for managing multi-layered plots. The supporting characters, such as Baek-ja and Hui-yeong, enrich the story and the setting against which family and industrial rivalries are played out.
My Troublesome Star Review: Summing Up
By watching Episodes 1 and 2 of My Troublesome Star, I can confirm that the series has begun quite impressively. With the story of Se-ra and Cheol still unfolding, I’m excited to see more emotional disclosures, dangerous moments, and the gradual development of a relationship that becomes destined but fragile.
