Make Me Tingle Episode 1 Recap

Make Me Tingle Episode 1 starts off by introducing Yeon-su and the conventional family that has dominated her whole life. She comes back home for a family ritual where her family still stresses the fact that getting married is the need of the hour as she is turning thirty. Having been to girls’ schools all along her life, Yeon-su has not experienced much freedom in exploring her life on her own.

However, Yeon-su is already dating Seung-jun, and the relationship has been going on for nearly a year. The catch is that whereas he wishes to see things move further in a physical sense in their relationship, she feels that intimacy is not supposed to take place until there is a clear commitment towards marriage. After being blind-dated by her grandmother, Yeon-su informs Seung-jun of the same, but he fails to give her the reassurance she requires, instead telling her that her refusal to have sex is becoming a problem.

On the other hand, we are introduced to Dokgo Dal, the proud CEO of Loand, who is also planning to have a blind date. Before having the blind date, her friend and boss, Se-ra, takes her to a sex toy shop so that she can get used to having a conversation about sex. In the shop, she sees Dal having a conversation with his coworker Ji-o, and she mistakes them for a couple.

Yeon-su decides to meet Seung-jun that night in order to prove how much she loves him. Everything was fine until he did not want to use a condom. When their discussion leads nowhere, he leaves her, and she, feeling bad and intoxicated, walks around the place and bumps into Dal. She notices that there are condoms left on the road after Loand’s event and wants to know if they are really hurting. Dal advises her to dump that man who said such things to her, and she vomits on him.

On the very next day, Yeon-su comes to know about the loss of her wallet, whereas her entire association with Seung-jun comes to an end when he finally decides to send her a message and end their relationship. Deciding not to let other people have control over her actions anymore, she offers to become the head of an upcoming advertisement campaign at Loand. At the end of Episode 1 of Make Me Tingle, what happens is the CEO of that company is Dal himself, the person who has made her lose her face in front of him twice before.

Make Me Tingle Episode 2 Recap

In Make Me Tingle Episode 2, Yeon-su realises she made the wrong choice when working with Loand, as she is afraid that she is not the right person for the job, considering how clueless she is about the product. But Dal specifically wanted the person who worked on the Horizon ad campaign, and Yeon-su happens to be the one. When they have their meeting, he asks her about her attitude toward sexual wellness products, but she says it would be beneficial for the company.

Yeon-su starts working alongside Loand’s group, which includes product designer Ma Mang-na and web designer Joo Min-young. In addition to that, she finds out that Ji-o is the vice president of the company but doesn’t clear up her misconception regarding the connection between him and Dal. Ji-o helps her recover her lost purse and introduces her to all the places inside the company where the products are tested and developed. Moreover, he gifts her a vibrator as well, thus creating one of the funniest moments of the episode.

When the vibratory device inadvertently turns on while Yeon-su is on her way home, the situation becomes even more embarrassing when the whole family finds out about it during a family meeting. Aunt Mi-young saves the day when she acts like the device is a neck massager. While there is humour involved here, Yeon-su also thinks back to how different her sexual education was from that of others. One memory of her mother teaching her about menstruation stands out in particular.

Everything becomes much more complex on a tour to the factory together with Dal. Yeon-su notices how nicely Dal gets along with the people making Loand products and understands how he considers his business a kind of partnership rather than just a chance to sell something. But all their differences are shown when they face a misunderstanding related to bondage in a motel. Yeon-su does not understand how pain is associated with pleasure, but Dal says that her preconceptions prevent her from this understanding.

Following their separation in an unfamiliar environment, Yeon-su gets assistance from a lady dealing in sexual health products from a van. She provides her with another point of view in regard to teaching youth about sexual safety. Afterwards, Seung-jun shows up at Yeon-su’s house drunk and eager to start his life with her again. Since she does not want to show that she loves him through sex, he becomes angry and threatens to beat her. at the end of Episode 2 of Make Me Tingle, Dal comes to her rescue in time and asks her what she wants him to do.

Make Me Tingle Episode 3 Recap

At the start of Episode 3 of Make Me Tingle, Yeon-su stands up to Seung-jun on her own and gives him such a kick that she suffers from backache later on. Dal takes her home, but finds her whole family there waiting for her. Yeon-su doesn’t want to tell his family about the kind of business he does, so he tells them he is in the exercise equipment business.

However, Dal markets his newest product, called Dreaming, to possible investors. Dal hopes that he will change the conversation on sexual wellness from a taboo topic to an acceptable one. However, the investors’ response shows that the challenges that Dal faces are not only those related to competition. In fact, Dal tries to change society’s opinion on sexuality being a taboo topic.

In the workplace, the arguments over love and intimacy between Yeon-su and Dal resume during a discussion about an article on keeping friends with benefits with an ex. For Yeon-su, sex gains its true value only when experienced with a person whom one loves, but for Dal there is no need for emotions to be involved. After that, Yeon-su witnesses a conversation of Dal’s former friends about why he chose to work at the particular company, and notices how often he needs to justify it. Their talk in traffic makes them grow closer together, as when Dal asks what she would do if he kisses her and then does kiss her.

The unexpected kiss has distracted Yeon-su during her time at work. It is difficult for her to comprehend her emotions and continuously ponders why Dal would kiss her when she has the right perception regarding his sexuality. On the other hand, Dal contemplates extending the contract with the advertising agency where Yeon-su works for a total revamp of Loand.

In the exhibition, Yeon-su gets inspired by a setup that provides its guests with random messages. The girl makes use of this opportunity to create a mystery-box concept for Loand where each box will be tailor-made according to the needs of the customers. At some point, when Dal appears with an umbrella in the rain, Yeon-su finally asks him the reason behind the kiss. He tells her that he wanted to, and then she kisses him back. But at the end of Make Me Tingle Episode 3, the moment becomes more intense with Yeon-su’s tears falling because she thinks that Dal is gay.

Make Me Tingle Episode 4 Recap

Episode 4 of Make Me Tingle starts with the kiss. Dal attempts to clarify that he is not homosexual; however, Yeon-su becomes too confused and thinks that they should act as if nothing has happened. At their workplace, Dal and Yeon-su start the debate regarding the mystery box again. Yeon-su would like to have some fragrant candles and bathroom products included in the box, while Dal wants to focus on the product line of Loand company.

This difference becomes a significant element in their professional collaboration. While Yeon-su thinks that the company should be concerned about what the clients feel using the products and not just selling them, Ji-o knows that it is difficult for Dal to connect emotionally with other people, and he tells Yeon-su this aspect of Dal’s personality over dinner. Unexpectedly, there is a power failure, and Dal is left alone in the office due to his fear of the dark.

They both end up having conversations under candlelight and learn even more about each other’s emotional scars. Yeon-su explains how her fear of rain is caused by locking herself in the bathroom when she was little and crying for help, but no one listened to her. Dal remembers being a very lonely child sitting in the dark during a power failure. When Yeon-su tries to help Dal look past his fear of the darkness, he realises how lonely he is within himself.

Dal’s relationship with his family members is another indicator of the emotional distance he feels. From visiting his father, it can be seen that there is a lack of harmony in their relationship, partly due to the fact that Dal’s father had been acting like that since Dal was young. Regarding the workplace, it turns out that after much persuasion, Dal agrees to put the scented candle in the mystery box, and Yeon-su suggests putting the QR code for music. The most important moment is when Dal agrees to assist Yeon-su with her conservative family. At lunch with her family, they purposely come late, and Dal admits to having his real business rather than being someone different.

Moreover, he states that he cannot have children and provides yet another reason to forget about the match. This meeting frees Yeon-su for the first time in her life, since she becomes free from all the expectations imposed on her. Dal hopes that this time their communication will be purely professional; however, Yeon-su surprises him and asks whether he wants to go out with her on a date. At the end of Make Me Tingle Episode 4, the way he responds to this question and the final shot of him observing her room with a smile implies that he might have developed certain feelings towards her.

Make Me Tingle Review

The most significant thing I’ve learned from the first four episodes is that the K-drama Make Me Tingle manages to do something fresh within the context of a well-known romantic comedy storyline. Yes, we see the typical conservative girl, the free-spirited man, lots of embarrassing misunderstandings and situations when one wants to hide behind their hands in shame. However, what’s important is the fact that the show is not simply using sexology as a device to unite two beautiful people, but as a way to learn more about how people form their views on love and sexuality.

It is Yeon-su whom I like best because her storyline is not based on an instant realisation of discarding everything she ever believed in. She truly loves and wants commitment, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. The only trouble with her is that she has been living according to the expectations of her family for so long that now she has difficulty separating her desires from the laws she was taught. This becomes especially sad in light of her relationship with Seung-jun because at first she thinks that she needs to change herself in order to keep him.

Nam Ji-hyun plays an important role in making Yeon-su work as well as she does. Her performance shows how she uses her embarrassment, confusion and stubbornness in ways that make the difficult moments funnier than embarrassing. Also, she adds a sufficient amount of sincerity to Yeon-su’s struggle so that none of her decisions seems ridiculous. One of my favourite scenes involving Yeon-su includes her aunt Mi-young, who advises her not to let anyone decide what kind of life she should lead.

In addition to being warm and funny, Mi-young offers some useful pieces of advice to Yeon-su. The second character whose performance I found impressive is Kim Jae-yeong playing Dal. With his confidence and cynicism about love, he seems to be an interesting person, but at the same time he looks lonely and vulnerable. What draws me to their arguments is the fact that both characters are not right or wrong in their opinions. Yeon-su holds that intimacy is supposed to go together with love, while Dal insists that pleasure can come separately from romantic feelings.

While the arguments can become very repetitive, the show employs this to portray the narrow-mindedness of the characters. Yeon-su tends to judge something without even trying to experience it herself, while Dal looks down upon the importance of those experiences for other people. None of the characters has to become like the other one. What I find more important here is seeing them open up to each other and see things from another point of view. It is also admirable that the drama addresses the topic of sexual well-being and talks about condoms, sexual pleasure, consent, and the taboo of sex without transforming every discussion of it into a lecture.

The episode where Seung-jun does not want to wear a condom is especially valuable as it proves that Yeon-su’s inexperience is not the issue here. She should have the right to set her own boundaries, even though she might have been together with her partner for quite some time or not be ready to be intimate with him yet. In addition, the work of Dal demonstrates that there is nothing to be ashamed of in the company that offers products related to sexual well-being. Finally, the mystery-box discussion in Make Me Tingle Ep 4 illustrates that the presentation of the product is essential to allow customers to explore it freely.

Make Me Tingle Episode 1-4 Review: Summing Up

Overall, Korean drama Make Me Tingle makes for an amusing, emotional, and quite candid exploration of something that many rom-coms tend to shy away from. Nam Ji-hyun and Kim Jae-yeong prove to be a very attractive couple, and I particularly appreciate the way in which they grow up together as individuals and a couple simultaneously. The odd cringeworthy moment and cliché aside, this is one promising beginning.

In four episodes thus far, I would be very interested to find out if Dal manages to let himself be vulnerable emotionally, and what his reaction will be as he continues discovering his desires. With the bold step of making a move, it will now be intriguing to see where their relationship goes and what else the world of Loand has in store for us.
