Does Jeong-yo eventually discover who was actually responsible for his kidnapping?

At first, Jeong-yo is convinced that it was Pi-o who caused his kidnapping as he finds some evidence that links Pi-o with those who kidnapped him. When he recovers his memories, Jeong-yo is certain that it was Pi-o who purposely destroyed his life for him to win the Harmonie Competition as a pianist. This is the reason why Jeong-yo decides to seek revenge on Pi-o rather than just questioning him about the whole thing. Pi-o undergoes very painful practices for his concerto as Jeong-yo makes sure that Pi-o suffers just like he did. Pi-o, on the other hand, knows that it was his mother who kidnapped him but still leaves Jeong-yo with this impression.

This becomes apparent to Jeong-yo only when Pi-o steps up and admits responsibility for his abduction, thus being arrested. Ji-hye confesses to Jeong-yo that she was the one who planned the abduction of Jeong-yo since she did not want her husband to be competing with Jeong-yo anymore. Even more, she asks him to testify that Pi-o was innocent.

Hearing Pi-o’s voice on the tape and looking at the piece of old sheet music with Pi-o’s note, Jeong-yo realises that Pi-o looked for him and did not arrange his kidnapping. Jeong-yo admits Pi-o’s innocence to the police.

Does Ji-hye get punished?

Yes. At the end of Four Hands Two Sonatas, Ji-hye is made to take responsibility for the kidnapping of Jeong-yo. It becomes extremely difficult for her to deny anything after Pi-o no longer wants to keep covering up for her, and she finally admits everything to Hyun-soo. But even at this point, she is hesitant about turning herself in to the police since she is concerned that Pi-o will have nobody to look after him if she goes to jail. She protects herself in another attempt by thinking that Jeong-yo should be silenced, but Pi-o does not agree to this plan.

Following the public confession and subsequent arrest of Pi-o, Ji-hye visits the police and confesses despite the fact that the police thought she was trying to shield her son from any wrongdoing. She further confesses to Seung-woon that she had arranged for Pi-o to be kidnapped because of her strong desire to have him succeed. She confesses to Jeong-yo that Pi-o had not committed any crime and that she was the one who told him to keep quiet about it. Jeong-yo does not forgive her at this stage and holds her responsible for ruining his life.

Does Pi-o really quit playing the piano?

Pi-o does indeed go through with his decision to stop playing the piano. Following all of the occurrences related to Jeong-yo, his mother’s crime is revealed, and he is consumed with the guilt associated with Jeong-yo’s disappearance. During the press conference, Pi-o tells everyone that he is retiring from playing the piano. In Four Hands Two Sonatas ep 12, even after Seung-un’s death, he does not change his mind immediately. He sells his piano and decides to walk away from music.

Nevertheless, Pi-o does not completely abandon music. Jeong-yo finally finds out that Pi-o has sold his piano and buys it back for him. Seeing how Jeong-yo plays the piano, Pi-o is moved, as it helps him recall the relationship between them that used to be connected with music. He urges Pi-o to play again and later leaves a letter asking Pi-o to make music for both of them. Ultimately, Pi-o starts playing the sonatas again and records himself while playing with the idea of showing it to Jeong-yo. Thus, he really retires from performing music for some time, but it does not mark the end of his career as a pianist.

Why does Jeong-yo leave Korea again?

The reason for Jeong-yo’s departure is related to the enduring physical impacts resulting from the abduction. While he is able to get back in touch with Pi-o and seems to be past his anger about the need for revenge, he has not yet recovered from the injury he received from the assault. It is disclosed at the end of Four Hands Two Sonatas that he has been suffering from brachial plexus nerve damage affecting his hand and arm. This is particularly important because of the fact that the piano was the focal point of his existence. He has already been forced to turn to conducting owing to his injury.

Jeong-yo, following his last meeting with Pi-o, ultimately vanishes from their lives and goes away from the country. This time, he seems to have chosen to take another route in life rather than coming back into their world. Before leaving the country, however, he writes a letter to Pi-o telling him to play on. Pi-o comes to know about the injury suffered by Jeong-yo and understands that it might be one of the reasons for which he decided to leave. Instead of ending everything, he leaves Pi-o with the music they made together as a promise.
