SEVENTEEN has been on a streak with their subunit releases, delivering CARATs just what they’ve been waiting for. Following This Man by Jeonghan and Wonwoo, it’s the 96-liners’ turn to shine with their debut single album, BEAM. The highly anticipated release HOSHI X WOOZI 96ers MV is finally here, the track, originally titled 동갑내기 (Donggapnaegi), reunites SEVENTEEN’s dance captain and vocal prodigy in a manner that best highlights their unparalleled synergy.
Directed by LAFIC, who also directed aespa’s Hot Mess, IVE’s Baddie, and TWICE & Megan Thee Stallion’s Strategy, the music video boasts a clear visual aesthetic that is specifically tailored to the duo’s energy. It’s full of bold aesthetics, sharp choreography, and charisma that only these two possess.

HOSHI X WOOZI 96ers MV Review
Pairing up SEVENTEEN’s dance leader with the mastermind behind their music was already a winning formula, but how they collaborate here is on a different plane. HOSHI contributes his trademark energy, while WOOZI tempers it with silky vocals and surprising flashes of swagger. The chemistry between them is electric—whether through their choreographed dance or the way they exchange lines with such effortless ease.
The lyrics become nostalgic and playful, recalling their childhood and how their friendship progressed through the years. There is a witty combination of humour and sentimentality that makes it impossible not to grin while listening. One of the best lines about them being “runny-nosed kids” during middle school is both funny and touching. It is obvious they enjoyed making this song, and that vibe carries over well on screen.

The fashion in this MV is worth a standing ovation. Those outfits in pink? Absolutely legendary. WOOZI, we can see you—you may as well just confess that pink is your color by now! The fashion is risky, cheeky, and completely in line with the upbeat vibe of the song.
In choreography, HOSHI’s abilities were guaranteed, but more impressive is the way that WOOZI is able to keep him in pace so effortlessly. Performing with one of K-pop’s best dancers is no easy feat, but WOOZI doesn’t just keep pace—he commands the stage in his own way. His movements, demeanor, and presence on stage prove how versatile he is.

One of the best things about SEVENTEEN’s albums is the way that they bridge their music together. This MV is no exception, with mentions of Super, Cheers, and even Salute (the most famous meme from NANA Tour). There are probably even more subtle references that can be found, so it’s an excellent watch for CARATs that enjoy deconstructing every tiny detail.
While we’re accustomed to HOSHI’s stage energy, WOOZI’s performance here is a delight. The way he easily moves from rapping to singing, and the assertive on-stage presence he has, are things we don’t always get to see in full. When he shouted the line “Woozi baby, Hoshi baby,” we couldn’t help but think of the iconic style of BIGBANG. That natural energy explosion is just a plus to the song.

Aside from the catchy beat and high-energy dance moves, there’s a lot of emotional value to this duet. It’s like a spin-off of their previous song Bring It, but even more intimate and genuine. The mention of their trainee days makes it personal, depicting how far they’ve progressed but still the same goofy, diligent duo fans love.
HOSHI and WOOZI once again show the world why they are heaven-made for each other. Energetic choreography, catchy lyrics, and a music video that encapsulates them to a tee, 동갑내기 is a must-watch for all CARATs. How they weave together nostalgia with high-energy entertainment makes it one of the best releases from SEVENTEEN’s subunits so far.
