Better Late Than Single Season 2 Episode 7-8 Review: The Korean dating reality show is reaching its finale with this week’s episodes; it is getting sadder and much more complex than ever. With the help of the hosts of the show, including Seo In-guk, Kang Han-na, Lee Eun-ji, and Car, the Netflix Korean reality series 모태솔로지만 연애는 하고 싶어 시즌2 features singles in search of their first love: Jeon Seo-yoon, Choi Hyeon-seo, Lee Han-joo, Kim Soo-hyeon, Han Su-ji, Ahn Jeong-eun, Kim Jae-seo, Yoon Jeong-yoon, Ahn Seung-hyeon, Choi Hyeok-joon, Lee Jin-woo, and Kim Tae-hoon. This episode places all developing relationships under stress, making the participants realise how complicated it can be sometimes.
Better Late Than Single Season 2 Episode 7-8 Review
There has been a time in the season when I felt like I was witnessing a cute dating reality show on Netflix. The participants here didn’t come across as seasoned players trying to make viral videos; they were clumsy, nervous, and quite straightforward about their feelings. Better Late Than Single Season 2 Episode 7 and 8 are full of these cute moments as well as lots of drama. Although the episodes are quite emotionally gripping, I felt like the show was slowly moving away from its charm.
Of course, one of the major sources of this frustration is Hyuk-joon. While watching Episode 8 of Better Late Than Single Season 2, I must admit that every time he appeared on the screen, I was getting irritated beyond belief. Every single dialogue revolves around him, his emotions, and what other people think about his decision-making. Rather than choosing something on his own, he waits for someone to show interest in order to get interested in them. And because of this, none of the ladies around him ever know their place.
The reason he gave for why he dated so much because he “felt bad” turning people down, which was definitely one of the most unconvincing things of the entire season. In fact, I laughed out loud at how ridiculous it was, and everyone else’s reactions just added to the humour because they were thinking the same thing as me. It didn’t make him seem very responsible at all.
What really frustrated me was that Hyeon-seo still gets hurt by him despite all the things that have happened. It is clear why she finds it hard to move on since feelings don’t go away overnight; however, it’s not easy to see someone pouring their emotions into someone who isn’t always sure about what he’s doing. It seems like every time Hyuk-joon makes up his mind, something else happens.
The case for Su-ji also became very complicated. Previously, it appeared that she was able to get into a comfortable groove when interacting with Jeong-yoon. Everything seemed natural and easy, and there was no pressure at all on her part. However, once she was spending some time with Hyuk-joon, everything changed dramatically.
In fact, I was able to comprehend the reasons behind her attraction to the person who makes her nervous rather than to the one who makes her comfortable. It is simply because attraction does not work according to the logic of the mind. In fact, although I do not find Hyuk-joon doing a good job in impressing people, I can understand Su-ji’s confusion. However, knowing this does not lessen my worries about the consequence of this decision.
The thing that really got to me, however, was Taehoon and Suhyun. In just a few episodes back, I thought for sure that these two would end up being the power couple of the season. They had good chemistry, they were comfortable around each other, and they always looked excited when they saw each other.
I could sympathise with both of them. I could see where Tae-hoon was coming from. In some cases, personality just doesn’t fit, and maybe the enthusiasm of Soo-hyun proved too much for one who takes his emotions in a more reserved manner. However, in the same way, I could not blame Soo-hyun. If you looked at it from Soo-hyun’s point of view, there was enough of an interest from Tae-hoon to know that something was going on.
I have noticed how some people have tried to justify her actions by saying that she was acting too much, but actually, in my opinion, I never felt that at all while watching these episodes. In my view, she was just an individual who does not like silent moments and tries to avoid pauses in conversations. And taking into account that this is her first real date, such behaviour seemed to be quite normal. Maybe this behaviour was not characteristic of Tae-hoon, but in my opinion, nothing bad happened there at all.
Actually, I felt very disappointed in the fact that everything seemed to be good, but went nowhere. I hope for the best for Soo-hyun, as she is a really nice and sincere girl. In other cases, Jin-woo was one that I kept being impressed by as well. He never appeared to be fake with his emotions, and watching him show the extent to which he cares makes his path one of the easiest to support. It was nice that his encounters with Jeong-eun were sincere without being too dramatic.
The part about the amusement park wasn’t bad, but I don’t think there was much significance added other than just allowing everyone to unwind before the last push. It was nice to see some light-heartedness though, and the drama was still what the episode was all about.
What really made me think about how hard things must have been for Jae-seo, though, was watching him work on trying to fix the damage he has done in the past. It has become so heartbreaking each time since everything he is trying to do to change himself only seems to be weighed down by his first impression.
Overall, Better Late Than Single Season 2 Episodes 7 and 8 were a combination of enjoyment and disappointment for me. They are enjoyable, emotionally charged, and certainly did a good job of keeping me interested from start to finish, but there is no denying that they showcase the ways in which the current season of the show has been about building drama rather than letting relationships evolve organically.
