No Tail To Tell Episode 1-2 Review: Directed by Kim Jung-kwon, with the screenplay written by Park Chan-young and Jo Ah-young, the drama stars Kim Hye-yoon as Eun-ho, a powerful yet jaded gumiho, and Lomon as Kang Si-yeol, a talented footballer whose life takes an unexpected turn. No Tail To Tell Episode 1 commences its story in the Joseon era, wherein Eun-ho, a nine-tailed fox, has the wish to turn into a human just by performing good deeds. Her very first step to the second stage of her plan is urging her mother for a miracle, which in her view would be her friend’s human reincarnation. Unfortunately, she sees a future all consumed by pain and suffering; her friend would still have to go through the cycle of rebirth. Disenchanted and brokenhearted, Eun-ho renounces her goal and starts considering humans as faint-hearted creatures surrounded by unavoidable pain.
Then, the narrative shifts to the modern day, where Eun-ho is depicted as a frigid and domineering individual who plays with human destiny without feeling sorry. Time takes a step back by nine years and reveals the story of Kang Si-yeol, an underprivileged but talented football player in high school who is taking care of his sick grandmother. He is good at football, but still in the shadow of his rich classmate Hyeon Woo-seok, whose family legacy is the reason for his always being on top.
Si-yeol has a secret that he is also working in delivery jobs to make a living, and is not revealing to anyone how he is managing. When Woo-seok learns the truth, he feels guilty, but the system that favours the rich continues to make Si-yeol pay the price. At the same time, Eun-ho is running her business by operating solely with the high-ups of society, such as construction mogul Lee Yoon, who, on the other hand, is the very one who gives her power and, in a way, has already consumed part of her soul by the darkness of the transaction.
The three fates are connected when Eun-ho stumbles upon Si-yeol and Woo-seok. She uses her powers of foresight, and her prediction is that one of the two will get a lot of recognition. At first, she thinks it is Woo-seok. But soon after a hit-and-run incident involving Lee Yoon, Eun-ho is assigned to work on manipulating Si-yeol’s memory. During the process, she gets an alarming vision: the two boys’ fates have changed, and Si-yeol has become the one to be famous. Episode 1 of No Tail To Tell concludes with Eun-ho succumbing, her concealed tails being exposed as a sign that fate has begun to resist.

In episode 2 of No Tail To Tell, Eun-ho is struck by the reality of her diminished abilities. God-like punisher, Lord Pagun, approaches her and reveals that her meddling actions had a chain reaction resulting in a man’s death. Eun-ho is made to face the outcome of her selfishness for the first time after hundreds of years.

Eun-ho, however, is not willing to accept defeat and gives Si-yeol a pure and honest wish for justice rather than for the sake of making a profit. Evidence that is not seen by anyone for so long comes to light, and CEO Lee Yoon is exposed as a criminal; besides that, the truth about the hit-and-run gets revealed. The remains of Bong-chang are discovered, and Lee Yoon is made to tell the truth. The goodness of Eun-ho restores her powers, at least partially.
On the other hand, as Si-yeol’s football career gets better and better, he is chosen to be on the national youth team and take the place of Woo-seok. Their friendship suffers, but it does not fully end; rather, they assert that they will someday meet on the field. Eun-ho, in a silent manner, has been helping Si-yeol to be successful; she gives him a suitcase that has a hint of his future abroad.
Several years later, Si-yeol is a world-famous football player in a British team when his mate’s career, Woo-seok, goes down. A financially broke Eun-ho returns to the wish-granting and tries to get Si-yeol as a customer, but he turns her down. No Tail To Tell episode 2 finishes with a very surprising turn of events: it is their turn to live each other’s lives again, but this time it is Eun-ho’s intention that forces the change and opens the conflict that is central to the drama.
No Tail To Tell Episode 1-2 Review
In its opening chapters, No Tail To Tell unfurls a fantasy romance that strikes one as whimsical on top and yet, with a deep, silent flow underneath, is questioning fate, decision, and result. The trilogy, right away, catches the viewers’ attention due to the fact that it tells the story of Eun-ho, a tired gumiho who can no longer trust people, and Si-yeol, an honest and talented young man whose life is restricted by situation but shaped by talent. Their first meetings are forks, funny, and full of tension, which makes the series really entertaining from the very start.
The best part of these episodes is the difference between the two main characters. Eun-ho’s haughtiness and emotional isolation don’t just put up with but also counteract Si-yeol’s down-to-earth honesty. Kim Hye-yoon gives a cheeky undertone to Eun-ho, while at the same time she drives home the solitude that comes with being immortal. Lomon, on the other hand, gives Si-yeol a charming personality immediately, but without making him a perfect hero. Their relationship is so intriguing and natural that even the twist of fate bringing them together in more complicated ways doesn’t make it any less so.
The drama, in terms of tone, goes beyond expectations in successfully juggling fantasy, humour, and serious matters. There are scenes that seem really heart-touching, particularly at the time when Eun-ho and Si-yeol start to fight the price of their decisions.
Although the above is true, the cadence is not always easy to follow. Episode 2 of kdrama No Tail To Tell has some very fast changes in it, particularly those that happen after the time leap and concern the main characters. These are twists and turns that are interesting but not always seen as heavy with emotions as they should be, thus making some instances feel fast instead of fully earned. The series sometimes gives the preference of a sound plot through drama over quieter reflections, which lowers its power a little bit.
