An inching finale brings a close, and every relationship within the house is already more entangled than ever. The newer participants have been breaking off old ties and getting to know and connecting to each other. However, the EXchange Season 4 Episode 17 preview still exposes the emotional rollercoaster of people who have just built their new bonds but still have unresolved feelings for their ex.
Seung-yong appears to be one of the participants who is at a whole new level and determined to win Hyeon-ji back. Season 4 Episode 16 of EXchange starts with Seung-yong and Hyeon-ji finally meeting for the first real face-to-face talk. Seung-yong plainly says that he wants to patch things up, admitting the faults he has made in their affair and telling how much he has been dwelling on their separation. Hyeon-ji, on the other hand, talks about the pain that still exists in her heart. She reminisces that once, when Seung-yong said he felt “free” after their split, his words were so sorrowful that they came to be a wound in her heart.
On the contrary, Hyeon-ji points out that Baek-hyun has given her the treatment of a person who is worth being respected, and that is one of the reasons why she was not able to see Seung-yong coming; this is not because he was the first one to arrive at the house.
The following morning, housemates set out for their dates. A very sweet and cosy trip Yoo-sik and Ji-hyeon go on, where Ji-hyeon learns that Yoo-sik has actually been in her talking room before-something she didn’t know. This, to her, was a revelation that not only increased her curiosity but also her affection for him. Yun-nyeong and Baek-hyun’s date is the first one in the series to feature such warmth. The connection between the pair is real and all the more so when Baek-hyun surprises Yun-nyeong with a present thoughtfully chosen for her, the girl visibly moved by the act, and the bond of love is strengthened between them.
In a way, one of the more contemplative dates is that of Min-kyung and Woo-jin. Both are enjoying each other’s company immensely; however, Min-kyung claims to still be emotionally attached to her ex and not ready for a new relationship. On his part, Woo-jin admits that he is still very much in love with Ji-yeon. It turns out that their date is not a romantic one but an engagement of minds, the start of a true friendship.
On the other hand, the date between Yoo-sik and Hyeon-ji is full of playful, humorous flirting. What is more, the two engage in making rings for one another-a very symbolic action, to say the least, which insinuates that their connection is gradually moving to the next level.
In episode 16 of Transit Love season 4, the ladies have to choose dates for their exes, which is nothing but a twist that introduces jealousy and strategy into the proceedings. Yun-nyeong chooses Hyeon-ji for Jae-hyeong, while Ji-yeon selects Yun-nyeong for Woo-jin, clearly not wishing to pair him with Min-kyung.
Though reluctantly, Min-kyung chooses Yun-nyeong for Yoo-sik, as if wanting to keep him far from the person he likes. Hyeon-ji pairs Yun-nyeong with Baek-hyun, creating a triple date situation with Ji-hyeon paired with Seung-yong. Jealousy toward Ji-yeon pushes Ji-hyeon to later choose Min-kyung for Won-kyu.
Nighttime brings the exchange of sentimental text messages that uncover the hidden feelings and the change of priorities. Some texts are of love, others of misunderstanding, while some are undoubtedly of love and still not over.
One of the most touching moments in Transit Love season 4 episode 16 is when Woo-jin writes a very touching letter to Ji-yeon. He admits his mistake in the past, promises that he will change, and tells her how painfully her refusal has been; however, he still respects her final decision. His openness touches a chord, and thus, the audience roots for them to get together once more.
Baek-hyun and Hyeon-ji also have a profound conversation. What begins as agitation turns into understanding when Baek-hyun realises he was wrong about her intentions. As the conversation progresses, he ends up crying, and by the end of EXchange Season 4 episode 16, he, in his video diary, completely breaks down, torn, puzzled, but one thing he is certain of: that he wants Hyeon-ji to be happy, even if that happiness does not include him.
