The supporting cast includes Han So-eun, Hong Min-ki, Choi Won-young, Lee Seung-woo, Ha Seok-jin and others. 은애하는 도적님아 is set to run for 16 episodes, airing every Saturday and Sunday, and the story blends palace politics, social injustice, romance, and a masked thief legend that slowly begins to unravel.
To My Beloved Thief Episode 1 Recap
Episode 1 of To My Beloved Thief unveils the legend of Gil-dong, a shadowy figure associated with theft, whose name is only whispered among the people. The public’s opinion on Gil-dong is divided; some consider him a heroic figure robbing the rich to give to the poor, while others swell the tale up to a nearly god-like character. The contrasting rumours disorient the police and render the thief almost untraceable. In the meantime, the story brings about Hong Eun-jo, a physician of Hyeminseo, who hides her life of troubles due to the daughter of a concubine’s low social status under her calm personality, which is the mark of a good healer.

On the government side, Prince Yi Yeol takes the gossip of the thief very seriously. He is not like the rest of the public; he raises questions about the thief’s ethics and starts his own investigation, which conflicts with the court’s wish for him to marry, and he is also the subject of marriage pressure. Eun-jo, on the other hand, carries the load of taking care of her family and falls victim to a harsh marriage plan that is meant to benefit the powerful officials and not her.
The destinies of Eun-jo and Yi Yeol unexpectedly meet in a market, where Yi Yeol, dressed as a beggar, is wrongly assumed to be a slave and is going to be punished. Eun-jo steps in and tells a lie to save him, which puts her at great risk. Their accidental meeting gets prolonged during a heavy downpour when small, loving conversations disclose emotional wounds under the unaffected surfaces of their personalities. To My Beloved Thief episode 1 ends with a significant disclosure: Eun-jo is disguised as Gil-dong and is all set to commit another theft, while Yi Yeol is resolved to expose the thief.

To My Beloved Thief Episode 2 Recap
To My Beloved Thief Episode 2 moves on to the emotional consequences of Eun-jo’s unthoughtful kiss and her emerging internal struggle. Yi Yeol, whose effort to locate the girl is fruitless, soon realises that the moment between the two is still lingering unresolved and is quietly unsettling for both of them. When night comes, Eun-jo takes up the secret identity of Gil-dong once more; she is robbing rich people of their rice, which she sends to a poor widow, thereby further building up her reputation as a friend of the poor and a protector of the poor at the same time.

When the theft attracts attention, Eun-jo smartly steps in again, saving the widow from punishment, and at the same time, she gives the powerful a taste of their own medicine by underhandedly showing their meanness. In another part of the town, she is subjected to humiliation by Jae-i, but instead of being frustrated, she turns the situation to her advantage by performing extraordinary archery skills, peeling off yet another layer of her strength. On the other hand, Yi Yeol’s obsession with the woman from the market and the thief of the mask, whom he cannot even catch, gets stronger.
The confrontation, to a great extent, triggers Yi Yeol’s inner conflict when he ultimately faces Gil-dong. Instead of apprehending the burglar, he unexpectedly suggests a partnership with the thief by offering protection in return for supervision. Eun-jo is stunned by his honesty but runs away without giving up her identity.

The episode 2 of To My Beloved Thief comes to its conclusion, not with a bang but a whimper, which hints that the gap between Eun-jo’s two alter egos— and her feelings— is becoming increasingly difficult to bridge.
To My Beloved Thief Episode 1-2 Review
For now, the first two episodes of To My Beloved Thief stand somewhere in the middle. It has a restrained yet serviceable opening. The first episode gives a lot of emphasis on setting up, providing political context, and building the world, which slows the pace. On the other hand, episode two has already started showing improvements in pacing and emotional clarity, which implies that the series is still finding its rhythm rather than faltering outright.

Nam Ji-hyun’s performance has been the strongest asset for the To My Beloved Thief drama so far. Her interpretation of Eun-jo is very quiet but still very compelling, and she is able to convey the character’s vulnerability, resilience, and intelligence without exaggerating any of the emotions. Her character remains really engaging even when the story slows down; thus, Eun-jo’s personal saga is made much more interesting than the surrounding court intrigues.
The romantic connection between Eun-jo and Yi Yeol is still in the process of establishing its full potential. Their meetings are very much visually poetic and rather cinematic, and they obviously are leaning more towards fate-driven romance than emotional organic buildup. Chemistry is definitely there, but it is still a little distant, and the viewers are left wanting more of their time together to be able to feel the bond solidified.

Supporting characters and political intrigues take up a generous amount of screen time, and not all of them are equally captivating. Some of the early comical bits come across as over-the-top, the visual style chosen, especially the artistic motifs and animated touches, however, adds to the overall charm. The hinted magical body-swap angle feels surprising and risky, yet it does ignite the curiosity about how far the plot will be able to go in terms of being daring in that aspect.
