Some of their decisions are good, some are bad, but that keeps things interesting, even when things are slow.
The standout aspects of this Spanish thriller That Night, are its leading women, whose performances are front and centre in every scene. Clara Galle is excellent as Elena, tracking her fear and fragility as her life unravels in a tangled mess. Her performance makes it easy to see why her sisters would try to protect her, even as her life becomes even more complicated. Meanwhile, Paula Usero grounds Cris with her natural performance, which sometimes acts as a link between her two sisters. Her performance brings some warmth to this story, even when darkness threatens to encroach.
Of course, Claudia Salas is probably the one who makes the biggest impact. Paula is a forceful, controlling, but also extremely devoted family woman. Salas plays her with superb skill, making her a strong but also strangely endearing figure. While you may not agree with her actions, you can understand why she takes them. The three actors create a very credible sibling relationship, which adds believability to the conflict scenes.
Netflix Spanish series That Night is notable primarily for how its events are presented. Each segment reveals more about what happened from different perspectives, allowing the story to branch out beyond what occurred in the initial accident. Every time a different viewpoint is presented, we learn more about the people involved and what happened to them. It is a successful style most of the time, although it does feel a bit repetitive at times, especially when a few of the segments revisit what happened, but from a different direction. It will feel immersive or tedious depending on how you feel about a slow-burning approach, but it does reinforce the concept that perceptions change based on who is presenting what happened.
