The idea of an Indian girl stepping into a world she has fantasised about from a distance provides a great platform for a movie to kick off.
The Netflix Tamil movie Made in Korea revolves around Shenba, a girl who has been obsessed with South Korea since she was a little kid. Her fascination is not limited to the Korean dramas and K-pop music she loves listening to; she is equally interested in the culture and history that surrounds it. However, her visit to Korea does not go as planned because she gets betrayed by her boyfriend. What ensues is a coming-of-age story as Shenba gets her life together with the help of a few surprising friendships.
One of the best aspects of the movie is the bridge it creates between Indian and Korean culture. On the other hand, Si-hun Baek’s role is that of a guiding figure for Shenba, and at times, his role borders on being a touch too flawless.
