The show focuses mainly on Cecilie Fjellhøy, also one of the victims of The Tinder Swindler, and private investigator Brianne Joseph. Both of these work together with those who were conned, broken-hearted, and financially ruined by scammers that they once believed were their soulmates.

The show remained engaging because it does not merely recount incredible scam stories; it goes the extra mile to describe the agony of the victims, the scammers’ tricks, and the resolve of Cecilie and Brianne to strike back. It is that measure of tragedy, suspense, and hope that makes Love Con Revenge distinct amidst Netflix’ expanding catalogue of true-crime documentaries.
Dating apps and online relationships nowadays are the norm. We have many looking for love on the internet, albeit opening the doors to scammers preying on the lonely or susceptible. Something that I appreciated about this docuseries is that it does not ridicule victims nor act as if they were reckless. It instead showcases the methods of manipulation via love bombing, gaslighting, and emotional blackmail.
For me, the docuseries Love Con Revenge on Netflix is relevant because it educates as it entertains. It makes one think twice about trusting the opposite sex, but gives one hope that after getting hurt by betrayal, the victims can recover again with strength and encouragement.
Perhaps one of the show’s very best assets is that of storytelling. It’s something unique every episode, and while I won’t detail it all here, the one thing that hit me the hardest was just how much it seemed like it could be our own lives. These aren’t strange crimes that come on some distant continent of the globe. These can be crimes that can be committed by anyone, and that alone kept me on the edge.
Cecilie Fjellhøy was the emotional core of the show. Having been traumatised by Simon Leviev himself in The Tinder Swindler, she comes to the victims of the show with real empathy. Seeing her become a pillar of strength and transform her traumatic past into a crusade against injustice is very inspiring. Brianne Joseph brings a private investigator’s sharpness by contrast—it’s the one who brings the tough, experienced professionalism of the genre, and the show profits greatly by the contrast between the two women.
The cases presented in the Love Con Revenge documentary are horrendous, not just due to the financial loss, but also due to the cutting of the deepest wounds on an emotional level. Several of the victims have lost life savings, others had credit histories marred, and still others were left wondering if they were of worth after years of taking advantage of them.
What I enjoyed was that the documentary didn’t just present these scams as “he said, she said” stories. It very carefully broke down the ways the lies were built and the ways the trust was abused. For example, some of the scammers built out entire fictional businesses or false military careers to be believable. Other scammers used medical conditions or sad stories to appeal to the heartstrings. Seeing how far people will go to be greedy is sickening, but it does make the consumer more careful.
I also enjoyed that the documentary extended empathy to the victims. Much too often, society chastises those who get scammed by referring to them as naïve. But here, they can also hear their hurt, their outrage, and their desire to have closure. It made me realise that scams don’t merely steal money; these scams steal dignity and faith.
While watching, I also realise that Love Con Revenge isn’t just a documentary of scams; it is also one of determination, of courage, and of the search for truth by humans. I like that Cecilie and Brianne handled every last one of their victims with respect and fought to get to the bottom of it all. Their friendship and determination are the reasons it is a show of hope despite the dark content.

The Netflix documentary Love Con Revenge is a warning, a lesson, and a message of hope. In six emphatic episodes, it shines a light on the duplicitous tactics of romance scamsters as much as it does the bravery of the victims. Cecilie Fjellhøy and Brianne Joseph were made for one another to lead the journey, coupling heart and expertise together perfectly. It is both a delight and an astonishment. It also has the ability to make one consider one’s own internet interactions and the importance of being vigilant.
