I Would Rather Die Review
Prime Video’s I Would Rather Die revolves around Archie Pérez, a top student in a high school who is primarily worried about being addicted to sugar as well as his long-term crush on a girl named Brenda. However, this ordinary teenage life gets complicated when Archie gets bitten by Mr Rodríguez, the owner of a local supermarket, and transforms into a zombie. The main thing that distinguishes Archie from all other people who get turned into zombies is that this transformation only partially takes place; instead of transforming entirely into the undead, Archie switches between the two.
What I found likeable about Prime Video series I Would Rather Die was the fact that Archie was interesting because of the way that his problem in the supernatural world took place at the same time as the problems that any regular teenage boy would face. Archie’s obsession with Brenda, his friend Cris, and the way that he constantly feels insecure about his standing with everyone else provide a personal basis for this story. What makes it different from other zombie stories is the fact that when Archie is first bitten, he doesn’t become an instant zombie hero who knows everything that needs to be done.

That’s why his friendship with Cris seems to be one of the strongest aspects of the show to me. She does not exist just to help him survive. Their friendship goes through a lot of trials and tribulations, especially once Archie starts losing control. The main difficulty is the moral conflict of trying to save one’s friend while being aware of the possibility that he or she might turn into a threat to all other people. This dilemma becomes especially relevant once Cris starts thinking about the need to kill Archie.
This love life of Archie provides yet another dimension to the tale, even though I did not find it always consistent. Archie has liked her for a long time, but Brenda herself has had a troubled past with Domingo. The result is that there is an adolescent love entanglement that goes on in the background of the zombie story. It works rather well sometimes since Archie is worrying about his love life and feelings of jealousy when he himself is transforming into something else.

This is definitely the biggest problem that I have with this Spanish series I Would Rather Die. The plot is jam-packed with ideas for many different shows. It includes the zombie invasion, the unusual transformation of Archie, Sarah’s research, teenage relationships, Domingo’s struggles with his father, and other things. Separately, each of these subplots is quite fascinating, however, this show does not always give enough space to each of them. Sometimes it feels like the plot is trying to move forward too quickly without giving enough time to some particular moments.
Yet, I appreciated the way the metamorphosis of Archie was depicted. The very first sequence in which he learns that an iron rod piercing his heart will not kill him right away shows that what happens to him is somehow different from a common infection. Further on, the fact that Archie can return to himself following an attack on Mr Rodríguez poses the main issue concerning his identity. Does Archie remain Archie while the zombie in him takes over, or is he turning into someone else? This ambiguity provided the actor with a lot to play with, and I thought he performed rather well.

Sarah played by Fernanda Castillo’s becomes significant with the progress of the plot. I was happy to see that she was portrayed not as a simple character running after the teenagers. Her care about Archie gradually becomes more personal when she begins asking questions to those who do not want to share information with her. Contrast of Sarah trying to comprehend the situation and adults using Archie is one of the most interesting elements of the story.
Nonetheless, it is rather annoying at times as the show attempts to add another twist just as one particular story becomes fascinating. In addition, there are some instances where characters make choices that do not necessarily have solid bases, and the pacing is inconsistent in some areas.

Prime Video I Would Rather Die Review: Summing Up
Overall, 2026 I Would Rather Die is a great and fun series that has an intriguing concept, especially regarding how Archie turning into a zombie is symbolic of losing control during growing up. The series combines teenage drama, friendship, and horror very well, and the acting makes up for a few weaknesses in the story. On the other hand, it tries to do too many things and not all of the stories receive the attention they deserve.
